CONTENT 2015, the Seventh International CONTENT 2015 The Seventh International Conference on Creative Content Technologies ISBN: 978-1-61208-392-6 March 22 - 27, 2015 Nice, France CONTENT 2015 Editors Hans-Werner Sehring, T-Systems Multimedia Solutions GmbH, Germany Jaime Lloret Mauri, Polytechnic University of Valencia, Spain 1 / 63 CONTENT 2015 Forward The Seventh International Conference on Creative Content Technologies (CONTENT 2015), held between March 22-27, 2015 in Nice, France, continued a series of events targeting advanced concepts, solutions and applications in producing, transmitting and managing various forms of content and their combination. Multi-cast and uni-cast content distribution, content localization, on-demand or following customer profiles are common challenges for content producers and distributors. Special processing challenges occur when dealing with social, graphic content, animation, speech, voice, image, audio, data, or image contents. Advanced producing and managing mechanisms and methodologies are now embedded in current and soon-to-be solutions. The conference had the following tracks: Image and graphics Web content Content producers/distributors Similar to the previous edition, this event attracted excellent contributions and active participation from all over the world. We were very pleased to receive top quality contributions. We take here the opportunity to warmly thank all the members of the CONTENT 2015 technical program committee, as well as the numerous reviewers. The creation of such a high quality conference program would not have been possible without their involvement. We also kindly thank all the authors that dedicated much of their time and effort to contribute to CONTENT 2015. We truly believe that, thanks to all these efforts, the final conference program consisted of top quality contributions. Also, this event could not have been a reality without the support of many individuals, organizations and sponsors. We also gratefully thank the members of the CONTENT 2015 organizing committee for their help in handling the logistics and for their work that made this professional meeting a success. We hope CONTENT 2015 was a successful international forum for the exchange of ideas and results between academia and industry and to promote further progress in the area of creative content technologies. We also hope that Nice, France provided a pleasant environment during the conference and everyone saved some time to enjoy the charm of the city. 2 / 63 CONTENT 2015 Chairs CONTENT Advisory Chairs Raouf Hamzaoui, De Montfort University - Leicester, UK Jalel Ben-Othman, Université de Versailles, France Jaime Lloret Mauri, Polytechnic University of Valencia, Spain Wolfgang Fohl, Hamburg University of Applied Sciences, Germany Zhou Su, Waseda University, Japan CONTENT Industry/Research Chairs Ajith Abraham, Machine Intelligence Research Labs (MIR Labs), USA Hans-Werner Sehring, T-Systems Multimedia Solutions GmbH, Germany René Berndt, Fraunhofer Austria Research GmbH, Austria CONTENT Publicity Chairs Lorena Parra, Universidad Politécnica de Valencia, Spain Samuel Kosolapov, Braude Academic College of Engineering, Israel Wilawan Inchamnan, Queensland University of Technology, Australia Javier Quevedo-Fernandez, Eindhoven University of Technology, The Netherlands 3 / 63 CONTENT 2015 Committee CONTENT Advisory Chairs Raouf Hamzaoui, De Montfort University - Leicester, UK Jalel Ben-Othman, Université de Versailles, France Jaime Lloret Mauri, Polytechnic University of Valencia, Spain Wolfgang Fohl, Hamburg University of Applied Sciences, Germany Zhou Su, Waseda University, Japan CONTENT Industry/Research Chairs Ajith Abraham, Machine Intelligence Research Labs (MIR Labs), USA Hans-Werner Sehring, T-Systems Multimedia Solutions GmbH, Germany René Berndt, Fraunhofer Austria Research GmbH, Austria CONTENT Publicity Chairs Lorena Parra, Universidad Politécnica de Valencia, Spain Samuel Kosolapov, Braude Academic College of Engineering, Israel Wilawan Inchamnan, Queensland University of Technology, Australia Javier Quevedo-Fernandez, Eindhoven University of Technology, The Netherlands CONTENT 2015 Technical Program Committee Marios C. This material reflects the view of the author only and the Commission can not be held responsible for any use which may be made of the information contained therein. With the support of the Tempus programme of the European Union. 2 Foreword Learning vocabulary as the building blocks for communication plays an important role in foreign and second language learning as it is an essential component of becoming a fluent foreign language user. Very often vocabulary learning occurs as a product of reading. While reading, a sentence could be incomprehensible to the readers by the occurrence of a single unknown word and the learner can consult the dictionary to understand the text. Through regular reading the learner may remember and recognize some new words he/she came across in his/her reading. Of course, we all should be aware that no dictionary contains every word in the language. The sciences, medicine and technology generate a lot of words that never make it into a dictionary; numerous foreign words that appear in English-language contexts are left out. A great many words are invented all the time and then they simply vanish from the record.

While there is a version sold in France that targets native speakers (even claims that the educational version meets advanced non-native learners' needs), for the purpose of this review, only the McGraw-Hill version was thoroughly examined.

  • Is Lexicography Making Progress
Is Lexicography Making Progress? On Dictionary Use and Language Learners' Needs Michaël Abecassis, Department of Modern Languages, University of Oxford, Oxford, United Kingdom ([email protected]) Abstract: This article sets out to explore the ways native speakers as well as foreign language learners use dictionaries and the strategies dictionary users adopt in the language acquisition process. The basis for this article is a corpus of six books (in chronological order Atkins (Ed.) 1998, Nesi 2000, Tono 2001, Humblé 2001, Sin-wai (Ed.) 2004 and Thumb 2004) that look at both the usage of bilingual, monolingual and bilingualised dictionaries and the users' behaviour in the con- sultation process. Both the bilingual and monolingual dictionaries seem to be used independently, depending on whether the user wants to utilise them for comprehension, translation or production with regard to a foreign language. As pointed out in the literature on lexicography, some of these dictionaries, though they have undergone many changes over the years, still have serious limita- tions as learning tools, but the user's performance is also under investigation in empirical research, with the aim of optimising dictionary effectiveness as well as developing the language learner's skills. Keywords: LEXICOGRAPHY, MONOLINGUAL, BILINGUAL, BILINGUALISED, DIC- TIONARIES, LANGUAGE ACQUISITION, DICTIONARY USER, LOOK-UP STRATEGIES, THINK-ALOUD, TRANSLATION, CORPUS, SKILLS Opsomming: Maak leksikografie vordering?
