After 35 minutes we George Darling 2 changed it about but we were already 3-0 Michael Simpson 1 down by then. We played a bit better in Scott Davis 1 the second half, we competed with them Ashley Walter 1 and we didn’t buckle. If you look at how Joey Abbs 1 many we were missing from our starting XI on Tuesday, they’ve done alright against a Honours team from a higher league. Eastern Counties Premier Division Champions Luke Stanley and Chris Lindsay will be fi t for 2007/08 today and Michael Simpson will be back Cambs Invitation Cup Winners too, while we’re hopeful we’ll have a new goalkeeper in as well. 1990/91, 97/98, 98/99, 2005/06 Eastern Counties League It’s a big game and everyone’s looking forward to it. Chorley Millennium Cup Winners will be big, strong and physical and we’ve got to rise to the 2000/01 occasion, which sometimes happens in cup games. If we get a good start, play with a better tempo and play like we did Peterborough and District League Winners against Grantham, we’ve got a chance. 3 Occasions Steve Eastern Counties League Cup Runners Up 2003/04 Eastern Counties 1st Division Runners Up Captain’s View 1992/93 with Michael Simpson Highest League Finish I’ve been on holiday in Wales so I wasn’t Ryman Isthmian League Division available for Tuesday’s game, but we always One North: 2012/13 - 7th (73 knew it was going to be a tough one; they’re Points) in the league above and we’ve had a few FA Cup players out. I saw that they scored early on 3rd Qualifying Round too and it’s always going to be an uphill v Kings Lynn (A) - 1970/71 battle from there. FA Trophy 2nd Qualifying Round Not having a regular ‘keeper does create a v Farnborough (H) - 2008/09 bit of uncertainty. In my experience, ‘keepers v Ramsgate (H) - 2012/13 don’t get injured very often and to have two ‘keeper injuries in a matter of weeks is unusual. It’s a position FA Vase 5th Round where you need continuity – someone who’s confi dent and v AFC Newbury (H) - 2004/05 knows the team – so it’s been very tough. FA Youth Cup We’re all really looking forward to today’s game and I think it 1st Round Proper v Charlton Athletic (H) - 2011/12 will easily be the hardest we’ve played in a couple of years. 2nd Round Proper Hopefully there’ll be a big crowd today and if we get a good v Arsenal (H) - 1974/75 start, you never know what could happen. 4 MACRON OFFICIAL BENCH WEAR SUPPLIER TO THE RYMAN FOOTBALL LEAGUE WORK HARD. Tuesday 29th October 19:45 Soham Town Rangers 1 Harrow Borough 4 By Simon Cullum Harrow Borough comfortably progressed to the next round of the League Cup with a 4-1 win at the Lane, scoring all four goals in the fi rst half. The Greens made fi ve changes from Saturday’s side as Dan De’Ath and George Darling returned to the starting XI. With both Dan Bircham and Leigh Follen out injured, Simon Allen stepped up from the reserves to play in goal, while there were debuts for recent signings Barry McGann and Joey Abbs. James McCabe, Martin Bromwich and Buster Harradine dropped to the bench, while Chris Lindsay was absent due to injury. Harrow started the game on the attack and after only two minutes Brandon Horner sent in a shot from the right which Allen just prevented from crossing the line. The Greens’ fi rst attempt came moments later but, after working his way into the area, Ben Sawyer could only fi re wide across goal. The visitors were soon back on the attack, and it remained like this for the rest of the half. Allen tipped Victor Osobu’s low strike wide and Rob Wolleaston fi red over before Borough took control, scoring two goals within a three minute spell. The fi rst came after six minutes when Wolleaston was given space in the area to turn and slot under Allen, before Osobu added a second in the ninth minute, placing Jordan Berry’s ball past the keeper. Abbs, then Scott Davis had opportunities to pull a goal back for the hosts, but both saw goal-bound efforts blocked. The visitors added a third in the 27th minute when Osobu was allowed to run into the area, taking the ball wide of Allen before squaring it to Chendlik, leaving him with an easy fi nish. Wolleaston then received a diagonal ball to fi re low at Allen, and Chendlik had a shot cleared off the line by Jordan Gent, before the hosts made a double change with 11 minutes remaining; Bromwich and McCabe replacing Barry McGann and De’Ath. Berry increased Harrow’s lead in the 38th minute, fi ring a long-range effort past Allen, with Wolleaston and Chendlik also having further efforts before the break. Soham came out a better side after half time and, despite the scoreline, made it more competitive. Darling and Wolleaston both had shots at the opposition keeper, and Abbs had a shot defl ected wide. The Greens were given the opportunity to reply when they were awarded a penalty on the hour mark after Danny Leech upended Gent. Abbs stepped up to send fellow debutant, Harrow goalkeeper James Shea, the wrong way to score his fi rst for the club. He came close to adding a second moments later, but from Connor Wood’s corner, the midfi elder was denied by the woodwork and Gent’s follow-up header was also blocked. Both sides made late alterations and the Greens replaced Abbs with Matt Simpson, a reserves regular making his debut for the fi rst team. Meanwhile for Harrow, Horner and Osobu made way for Michael Barima and Daniel Llacer respectively. As the game progressed, Darling and Chendlik placed wide, Wood saw a left-sided shot saved, whilst Llacer was denied by the woodwork from Shaun Lucien’s corner.
