Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, transit restrictions have been implemented. Immediate connecting flights for international to international and international to domestic routes are not allowed. Only domestic to international and domestic to domestic routes are allowed at this time.

GENERAL QUESTIONS

What is a Connecting Flight? A connecting flight involves two or more subsequent flights where passengers are required to transfer from one airplane to another in between destinations. The wait at the airport between two flights is called a layover.

Each flight ticket has its own Free Baggage Allowance (FBA) policy. This FBA entitlement is specific to each flight and may not necessarily apply to subsequent connecting flights. Excess baggage fees will be collected as necessary.

What is Check-Through? Check-Through Service is offered to passengers with connecting flights to check-in their baggage from the airport origin, all the way through to their final point of arrival. This significantly reduces passengers' transfer time, allowing them to enjoy a more convenient travel experience.

Does Philippine offer Check-Through Service? Yes. Philippine Airlines offers Check-Through Service for passengers with confirmed connecting flights originating from any PAL station going to any PAL destination. To avail this service, passengers must present their ticketed connecting flights upon check-in at the origin station. Once successfully checked-through, passengers will receive boarding passes for all their flight segments.

What precautionary measures are being done for transit passengers? As part of PAL's safety requirements, transfers in are limited to Domestic to International and Domestic to Domestic transfers only. Passengers with connecting flights are automatically checked-through. However, transfer passengers must proceed to the Transfer Desk for documents verification for their onward flight.

Passengers are advised to accomplish the required PAL Passenger Profile and Health Locator Form as early as 5 days before their onward flight.

Passengers must ensure to have complete health & documentary requirements for their onward domestic and international destinations. Passengers must also use the Traze Mobile Application to generate and scan their QR code when entering in, boarding from, and upon arriving in all Philippine Airports, as mandated by the Philippine Department of Transportation. We will enforce social distancing while passengers are waiting, on queue or inside PAL shuttle buses. Countertop sanitizers are available at our Transfer Desk.

Can I use PAL’s Online Check-In Facility to check myself through? Yes. Passengers may use the online check-in facility to be checked through. However, they will not be able to print a digital boarding pass. Our digital boarding pass is also temporarily unavailable. This service will resume depending on the conditions of travel regulations. Passengers may claim their boarding passes at the airport.

Our online check-in service is available EXCEPT for flights departing from , London, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Sydney, and Melbourne, as well as all of our special flights.

How will I know the gate assignment and boarding time of my connecting flight if I’m already checked-through? Passengers may check their most updated gate assignment and boarding time at the Flight Information Displays upon arrival at the next airport terminal.

What is Minimum Connecting Time (MCT)? Minimum connecting time is the shortest time interval required in order to transfer passengers and their baggage from one flight to another.

GENERAL QUESTIONS

I’m concerned about my connecting time. How can I make sure I don’t miss my next flight? Passengers with short connecting times between flights should approach the Transfer Desk immediately upon arrival.

I missed my connecting flight. What should I do? Passengers with missed connecting flights may approach the Transfer Desk upon arrival for re-accommodation to the next available flight, subject to certain terms and conditions.

I need to comply with the arrival and quarantine protocols upon my arrival in Manila. Can I rebook my onward domestic connecting flight? Passengers with existing bookings may rebook their onward Domestic flight at least 6 days after their arrival in the to accommodate their scheduled swab test and release of results. Rebooking terms and conditions apply.

For passengers making future bookings, they may book their onward Domestic flight at least 6 days after their arrival in the Philippines to accommodate their scheduled swab test and release of results. Do I need to check-in again for my connecting flight upon arrival in Manila? Checked-through passengers who already have their onward boarding pass do not need to check-in a second time for their connecting flight.

I don’t have an onward boarding pass for my connecting flight. Where can I get this ? Passengers with confirmed connecting flights operated by Philippine Airlines and PALexpress should receive boarding passes for each of their flight segments upon check-in at the origin station. If not, passengers may request assistance at the Transfer Desk upon arrival in Manila.

How will I know if my bags have been checked-through? To confirm if bags have been checked-through from origin to final point of arrival, passengers may look at the bag receipt issued by the agent during check-in. If the receipt indicates MNL, checked bags must be claimed upon arrival at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.

CONNECTING VIA MANILA AIRPORT TERMINALS

My connecting flight in Manila is departing from another airport terminal. How can I get there? Philippine Airlines provides FREE shuttle services to and from NAIA Terminal 2 to NAIA Terminal 1 for passengers with confirmed connecting flights operated by Philippine Airlines or PALexpress. To avail this special service, passengers may approach the ground staff upon arrival in Manila.

The PAL free airport shuttle service is available at the Arrival Curbside for passengers connecting to Terminal 1.

Do I need to through Immigration between connecting flights? In compliance with border control laws, passengers connecting to or from International flights are required to go through Immigration whenever entering and exiting the airport terminal. This screening process is necessary to regulate the entry, stay, and exit of both foreign nationals and Filipino citizens in the country.

Do I need to collect my checked baggage before transferring to my connecting flight? Generally, no. Passengers do not need to collect their checked baggage if they are already checked-through. PAL’s check- through service allows passengers to experience one-stop check-in and hassle-free baggage transfers to their final point of arrival.

However, there are some instances where passengers are required to claim their checked baggage before transferring to their connecting flight.

In what instances will I be required to collect my checked baggage in Manila before transferring to my connecting flight? Due to facility limitations and border control laws, the following passengers will be required to claim their baggage and undergo additional security checks upon arrival in Manila:

• Passengers traveling to the US, UK, Canada, Australia, or New Zealand must proceed to the Baggage Screening Area for additional security check.

If connecting from NAIA Terminal 2 Domestic Wing, passengers must remember to collect their bags from the carousel first. They may leave their bags with the baggage attendants afterwards for reloading at the carousel.

Why do I need to go through Customs between connecting flights? In compliance with border control laws, passengers connecting from International flights to Domestic flights are required to go through Customs for baggage clearance. This screening process is a regulatory requirement necessary to control entry of goods into the country.

Why do I need to go through additional security checks between connecting flights? In compliance with border control laws, all departing and connecting passengers bound for the US, UK, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand are required to undergo additional baggage screening in Manila. For more information, passengers may check the FAQs on Check.

Where can I stay in Manila while waiting for my onward connect flight? All Domestic and International Mabuhay Lounges and the Transfer Lounge are temporarily unavailable due to strict health and safety protocols. Philippine Airlines will keep passengers updated on any development regarding lounge services. Passengers are free to stay at the Pre-Departure Area of Terminal 1 or 2 and enjoy the airport’s available restaurants, stores, and facilities.

Can I leave the airport if I have a long layover? Passengers who opt to leave the airport during layover will have to go through Immigration and Customs for assessment. These government agencies decide if passengers are qualified to leave the airport terminal and enter the country’s premises. Immigration may also require passengers to submit some documentation requirements. For assistance, passengers should approach the Transfer Desk upon arrival.

I booked my (ANA) flight through Philippine Airlines. Can I still avail of PAL’s transfer facilities and services in Manila? Yes, passengers with confirmed bookings on codeshare flights with ANA may also use the transfer facilities and services offered by Philippine Airlines. For assistance, passengers may approach the Transfer Desk upon arrival in Manila.

Passengers connecting from other PAL stations may approach the ground staff for assistance.
