◎ Age Requirements

Purpose Seoul International Dance Competition seeks to not only discover young and talented artists, but also to help develop their craft by giving them opportunities to compete in an international stage. Through this competition, it is our hope that the artists can collaborate as colleagues and contribute something meaningful to our common interest. Furthermore, we at SIDC hope to lead dance communities in Korea at the forefront of their development and wish to be the epicenter of Asian culture and dance awareness around the globe.

Both participants competing in the Couples category will be judged individually, and must each submit their own registration. 4. A participant who is competing in the Couples category may choose a non-participant as his/her partner. However, the participant may perform in the Couples category with his/her partner only up to the Semi-Finals. If this participant advances to the Finals, he/she will perform as Solo. 5. Participants competing in Couples category (both opposite and same gender couples) will choose one person to perform the Designated Performance. 3. When registering to compete in the Couples category, the participants must indicate one gender on the registration form (if the couple is comprised of opposite gender). Both participants will be judged as one entity, along with the participants of the gender that they chose. (e.g. Couple A has a male and a female participant, and chose Female on their registration form; Couple A will be judged along with Female Solo participants). 4. Gender indication for the purposes of ranking and competition (for opposite gender couples) can be changed during Semi-Finals registration period ONLY. Any change requests submitted after the Semi-Finals registration period are not accepted. (I.e. Opposite gender couple indicated as Female during Preliminaries who advance to Semi- Finals can change to Male during Semi-Finals registration period).

5. Requests for changes in partners when competing in the Couples category are accepted during Semi-Finals registration period ONLY (I.e. Couple A is comprised of participants B and C. Couple A advance to Semi-Finals but participant B gets injured during practice. Participant C may submit request for change in partner during Semi-Finals registration period ONLY. If Participant C submits request after the registration deadline, participant C will not be able to advance to Semi-Finals). 6. When a Couple wins an award, both names will be recognized. However, their prize will be the same as Solo winners. 7. Registration fee for participants entering as Couples will be the same as a single participant. However, both participants will each submit their own registration forms. Both will clearly indicate their partner’s information on the registration form.

Participants for Creative Ethnic Dance can change their Performance and music between Preliminaries and Semi-Finals ONLY. Changes between Semi-Finals and Finals will not be accepted. For participants performing Seungmu, which requires drum, the participant must supply his/her own, and can only move it during specific window of time. 5. D. Choreography

1. Seoul International Dance Competition has built a credible track record of producing numerous highly qualified dancers partly due to its growing list of high caliber participants all around the world. The other part of the formula to its continued success is the competition's innovative spirit and its dedication to be true to its mission and goals. In this effort, the competition is proud to announce its latest addition of a new competition category, called Choreography 2. Creativity and Artistic Value will be primary areas of focus when evaluating Choreography pieces in the competition. 3. Both Award Types will have the First, Second and Third Prize awards. Both the choreographer and the performers will be recognized should they win an award. 4. Participants in Choreography category may perform in his/her own Choreography piece. 5. The First Prize winner will have the opportunity to showcase his/her piece during the Ethnic Dance/Ballet/Contemporary Festival at the end of the competition.

※ Rules of Engagement for Choreography Participants 1. Participants must choose the appropriate category based on their age. 2. Once the participant advances beyond the Preliminaries, he/she may not change the choreography piece. However, the participant can improve upon the original work and make necessary adjustments. 3. Co-choreographed pieces may not be submitted (i.e. no more than 1 choreographer per each submitted choreography). 4. One choreographer can submit only one choreography piece. 5. If the participant performs in his/her own submitted choreography piece, he/she may not use the same performance to compete in different genres (i.e. Contemporary, Ethnic Dance, etc).

*Important Notice to All Participants

1. The members of the Jury panel reserve the right to not choose a winner in each genre. 2. The members of the Jury panel reserve the right to present Special Awards to those who are merited. 3. In the case that two winners are named for an award, the person with the lower numerical ranking will not receive the award. ex) If there are two 1st place winners, 2nd place prize will be omitted and one of the two will receive the 3rd place prize. 4. Participants who advance to the Finals will receive a Finalist Certificate.

▶ Regulations

◎ Video Screening Requirements 1. Excerpts from live performances are not acceptable. 2. Practice clothes must be worn, not costumes (except for Ethnic Dance participants, who may wear costumes). 3. Camera should be placed sufficiently away (but not too close) to ensure full body is visible in the screen throughout the performance.

◎ Costume & Make-up 1. All materials needed for the competition including, but not limited to: costumes, shoes, make-up, and small props are to be prepared and transported by the participants during the competition. 2. Participants must wear designated costume and make-up (which are to be prepared by the participants) when performing the Designated Performances. 3. Nude performances are strictly prohibited.

◎ Music & Stage lighting 1. All participants must submit their own music during the registration period. 2. If submitting via CD, participants must clearly indicate the following in the front of their CD case(s): participating category (e.g. Prejunior, Junior, Senior, Solo/Couple, etc.), genre (e.g. Ballet, Contemporary Dance, Ethnic Dance, etc.), name of participant, title of work, and name of the choreographer. All participants must submit one CD per performance. 3. Digital files of the music are also accepted (i.e. USB devices). 4. Once the music is submitted, the CD(s) and/or USB device(s) will not be returned. The participants must ensure that they can readily access their music for practicing. 5. Live music during the performances is prohibited. 6. Participants must perform only under the lighting conditions provided by the Competition (basic white lighting with no spotlights). Special lighting effects and other lighting conditions are prohibited. 7. Only the music(s) provided by the Competition can be played during the Designated Performances.

◎ Stage Materials 1. The participants may use small props if necessary during their performances. 2. The props must be transportable by the participants themselves, and must not interfere with the performance of other participants, except for certain Ethnic Dances (ask the

executive staff for questions regarding the exceptions). Examples of forbidden materials for use as props include, but are not limited to: any kind of powder, liquid, and/or flammable substances).

◎ Jury Panel 1. The members of the Jury panel will be dance professionals from around the world who are appointed by the Competition’s Executive Committee. 2. Decisions made by the members of the Jury panel are final and will not be overturned. 3. The members of the Jury panel reserve the right to adjust the running times of performances and intermissions, etc. to ensure the Competition stays on schedule.

◎ Copyrights 1. The Competition retains copyrights to the following that occur during the Competition and during Gala performances: a) Video tapes, voice and/or written records, and photographs of the event that occur during the Competition and during Gala performances. b) Rights to publish, copy, broadcast, sell, and exhibit contents of the event. 2. Participants may not demand monetary compensation for the contents of the copyrights stated above. 3. If participants use choreographies, music, or costumes that require the permission of the original author, they must receive permission from the author prior to the competition. The participant must submit proof of the permission from the original author to the Competition Secretariat during the initial registration period. 4. Seoul International Cultural Foundation (SICF) is not responsible for any litigations and/or legal matters that may arise from using unauthorized pieces of work.

◎ Accommodations and Expenses 1. The Competition will provide room accommodations and meals only for international participants who compete in the Semi-Finals and Finals. Those who do not advance beyond Semi-Finals, but choose to stay throughout the competition, must do so at their own expense (room, meals, etc). 2. Local participants and Korean participants living abroad (Korean passports) will be responsible for their own room and meal expenses. 3. Contact the executive staff at SIDC for information on hotel reservations.

◎ Photo shoots & Interviews 1. Participants must agree to photo shoots and/or interviews arranged by the Competition if requested. 19

2. Local media sometimes request interviews directly to the participants. However, unless the media coverage (e.g. interview requests, etc) was approved by the Competition beforehand, any direct correspondence with the media is prohibited. The participant must acquire consent from the Competition’s Executive Committee.

◎ Orientation 1. Those who advance to Semi-Finals, and subsequently to Finals must attend the orientation. 2. The date, time, and place for Semi-Finals and Finals orientations will be announced by the Executive staff during the competition.

◎ Insurance 1. The Competition is not responsible for any accidents, personal injuries, and/or damage/loss of personal properties that may occur during the Competition, including during travel to and from Seoul. 2. It is highly recommended that the participants acquire their personal protection and liability insurance to ensure coverage.

◎ Miscellaneous 1. The order of the performance for Semi-Finals is determined by drawing numbers during the orientation. The order of performance for Finals will be the same as Semi-Finals (minus those that do not advance to the Finals). 2. For participants in Ballet Pre-junior I and II, the order of performance will be from the youngest to the oldest in age. 3. All performances are open to the public (except for Preliminaries of International participants). 4. Large props that need to be pre-set on the performance stage are prohibited. 5. Participants will be responsible for any additional fees including, but not limited to: personal taxes, and wire transfer fees incurred from receiving prizes.

Preliminaries (applicable to International participants) · Participants must prepare the list below and submit them via email to: [email protected] . All application materials must be received by this office between 25th Apr (Thu) and 25th May 2019 (Sat) by 03:00PM local time (Seoul, Republic of Korea). · Application fee is 200 USD (excluding international transfer fees, daily exchange rates, etc) due at the time of application submission. · Required Documents

1. Application Form – downloaded from www.sicf.or.kr (choose English version) 2. Resume and Performance Works List 3. Signed and dated Agreement to Provide and Use of Personal Information form (Part of the application form) 4. Copies of Award Certificates and/or Finalist Certificates from previous Competitions, if you have any. Refer to the List of Competitions found at the end of this pamphlet for qualifying competitions for exemptions. 5. Copies of proof of permission and/or copies of official documents if using any copyrighted pieces of work (e.g. music, etc). 6. Scanned copies of recent photo (no more than one year old) – photo must be 3.5cmx4.5cm in size). 7. Digital file(s) of the performance(s). 8. Scanned copy of unexpired passport. 9. Scanned copy of Application fee receipt.
