❑ The College: at a Glance

Dhupguri Girls’ College was established in the year 2013 after an engaging initiative by the local enthusiastic people, who are interested to spread education among women in the Duars region. The College initially started in a temporary establishment near High School (Sadasana Chatrabas) before shifting to the present premise at College Para, Ward No.1, near Sukanta Mahavidyalaya, in the south-eastern fringes of the town. The College campus stands tall; overlooking sprawling and serene greenery spread over 6 acres of land. It is a Government aided Degree College, affiliated to the University of North Bengal.

• Motto of the College

तमसो मा 煍योततर् गमय (Lead us from Darkness to Light). Let the light of knowledge give us more power to usher in a new dawn of hope and aspirations for the women in the Doars’ region.

•Scope and Mission of the College

As the College is situated in a challenging Rurban belt of North Bengal, socially and economically backward; but rich in cultural diversity and indigenous languages, we are committed to develop the institution as a site of empowerment of the local women, who can carry forward the cause of education in its highest and widest sense, enriching and transforming ways of their living. Apart from the conventional courses, the College authorities are also interested to introduce community based and vocational courses, especially for women in the coming future so that they can be equipped with skill based training to further their need for sustainable livelihoods. The College has initiated the NSS unit for the girls from the academic session (2017-18) to encourage democratic modes of living and sustain selfless service to the neighbouring communities.

तमसो मा 煍योततर ् गमय “There is no chance for the welfare of the world unless the condition of the woman is improved. It is not possible for a bird to fly only on one wing”. These golden words of Swami Vivekananda towards the uplift of women in India, leads us to realise that fostering higher education among women can only lead to any real good for our society. With this noble vision in mind, Dhupguri Girls’ College also aims to nurture and cultivate the zeal for learning and education amongst women, especially in this region of , North Bengal. This educational journey of the girls’ from this margin of Bengal has lots of challenges and impediments and yet, we, at Dhupguri Girls’ College believe that education alone can help women to discover their standing and value in the modern world. It is an un-ending and ongoing process and is not merely repeating rote learning but a holistic goal where every educationist yearns to install in every student a sense of virtue and wisdom, sensitivity to the needs of others, the skills, the attitudes and habits that would help them explore and excel in the 21st century world. I assure that Dhupguri Girls’ College will always remain more than anything, a temple of learning, where there are “equal opportunities to all so that they rise to their fullest potentials”. I will also ensure to the best of my ability, that amidst the current pandemic situation, our college will try to impart education with all innovative and online facilities to our students. Our challenge is to bring up the college at par with other colleges of repute in this locality and for this I look forward to wholehearted participation on the part of students, staff members, Teaching as well as Non-Teaching and everyone associated with the college.
