Cross Section needed Minnesota River at St. Peter, MN22 STATION ID: H28-038-002 NWS ID: SPTM5 USGS ID: 05325300 EQuIS ID: S000-041 LOCATION: Lat: 44.307457º UTMX: 423425.3 Township: Kasota Long: -93.960076º UTMY: 4906470.5 TWP RNG SEC Q QQ PLS: 110N 26W 28 NW SE County: Le Sueur Drainage area (acres): 9,661,384 Driving directions: From the intersection of US169 and MN22 in St. Peter, travel southeast on MN22 0.5 miles to bridge (Bridge #40002) and gage. Gage is on the downstream right bank (northeast) corner of the bridge. Cooperation: Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (MN DNR), Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA), Minnesota State University-Mankato Water Resources Center (MSUM-WRC), United States Geological Survey- Upper Midwest Water Science Center (USGS), National Weather Service (NWS). History: MN DNR began collecting flow measurements in March 2011. Gaging station installed on 10/28/2011 by MN DNR. Station was updated with Sutron equipment on 7/20/2017 by MN DNR. GAGE: A Sutron Satlink3 Datalogger and Sutron Bubbler are housed in a 2' x 1.5' x 6' Hoffman look-in type shelter. A solar panel and rain gage are attached to side of shelter on a 10' mast. The equipment is powered by a 12V battery charged by a 1.2 amp solar panel through a Sunsaver power regulator. Data is collected at 15-minute intervals and transmitted via GOES satellite at 1-hour intervals within a 10 second window. Radar sensor installed near wire weight gage at an elevation of 765.97 ft (NAVD88) and is the primary sensor collecting stage data. Bubbler/orifice line is for collecting stage data when channel is ice-covered (secondary sensor). GOES ID: D5527354 Random Channel: 119 Primary Channel: 79 Azimuth: 156 Transmit Time (GMT): 00:13:10 Elevation: 32 CHANNEL AND CONTROL: Soft mud channel, brush and tree covered banks are control for all but extreme stages. DISCHARGE MEASUREMENTS: High flow: Off downstream side of bridge. Alternate measurement location is approximately one mile downstream (north) at the MN99 steel truss bridge (if measuring here, check diversion culvert noted below). Low flow: Off downstream side of bridge. Ice: Wintertime sheet ice can usually be found approximately one mile downstream (north) at the MN99 bridge, approximately 125 yards upstream of the bridge (near the boat landing). Diversions, Impoundments, Additional flow inputs: At the MN22 bridge, there is a diversion channel ~0.4 miles to the west of bridge that needs to be checked for flow during moderate and high flow events. If measuring flow at the MN99 bridge, there is a concrete box culvert located 0.7 miles east of the bridge that flows during flooding (see map in folder). REFERENCE MARKS: B.M. 1: MNDOT brass disk, located in the southeast corner bridge abutment. (Surveyed by MnDOT on 8/13/19. Previously had an incorrect MnDOT elevation of 764.23ft; historic record was adjusted by +2.97ft) Elevation: 767.20 ft (NAVD88) Need to confirm disk location and stamping on next visit R.M. 1: Chiseled square, lower beveled edge. Located on downstream side of bridge, approximately 160 ft from downstream right bank end of bridge. Survey needed, last done in 2011 Elevation: 768.25 ft (NAVD88). Need survey to confirm now that datum has been offset by +2.97 R.M. 2: Wire weight checkbar, located on downstream side of bridge. Elevation: 767.30 ft (NAVD88). Surveyed on 11/18/2020 by MN DNR. R.M. 3: Chiseled square, lower beveled edge. Located on downstream side of bridge, approximately 100 ft from downstream right bank end of bridge. Painted pink.
