Vipers’ Head Coach Resigns Larry Brown resigns from his position due to medical issues Florence, SC – February 12, 2014 – The Pee Dee Vipers’ Head Coach, Larry Brown, has resigned from his position as a consequence of medical concerns and precautions. Brown and the Vipers took into consideration the long-term health of Brown and productivity of the team when making this decision. Brown does not feel that he can adequately provide the Vipers with the standard of coaching he is accustom to contributing and focus on improving his health at the same time. The entire Vipers Organization backs Brown in his decision and will continue to support him during his journey to good health. Andre Bovain has been named Head Coach. Bovain served as the Vipers’ Assistant Coach under Brown. NBA legend and Columbia, SC native, Xavier McDaniel will be one of the Vipers’ assistant coaches. Bryan Hergenroether will also join the Vipers’ coaching staff. The Vipers’ new coaching staff will leave much of what Brown has developed in place; plays and structure will be similar. Brown and Bovain worked closely to ensure that the coaching transition will be smooth and not dramatically impact the team’s winning style of play. Xavier McDaniel: • Played in college at Wichita State (1981-1985) • 4th overall in the 1985 NBA draft to the Seattle SuperSonics • Played 14 seasons in the NBA (1985-1998) • NBA All-Rookie First Team in 1986 • NBA All-Star in 1988 • Career Stats (NBA): Points – 13,606; Rebounds – 5,313; Assists – 1,775 • Played against names such as Magic Johnson,

He was born on February 12, 1809, outside of Hodgenville, Kentucky. Lincoln was just eight years old when his father moved the family to the wilds of Indiana and began to clear and farm 160 acres of land in Spencer County. There the family occupied a modest three- cornered lean-to. Lincoln never had more than a year of formal education while growing up, but he learned to read and loved books. By the time Lincoln turned sixteen, he was working as a farm hand and laborer. He also worked as a store clerk and ferryboat rower. He was tall and very strong and gained local acclaim as a wrestler. Lincoln went to law school, walking twenty miles each way because there were no law books in his hometown of New Salem. From 1833-1836 he served as the postmaster of New Salem. HowIGotThisWay_p3.indd 8 9/15/11 4:55 PM Lincoln was elected to the Congress in 1846, at the age of thirty- eight. He lost his bid for re-election in 1848 due to his outspoken criticism of the Mexican War and returned to Springfield shortly thereafter to resume his law practice. In May of 1860, Lincoln was nominated as the Republican candidate for president while his old foe Stephen Douglas was nominated by the Northern Democrats. Lincoln won the popular vote and the Electoral College and subsequently took office on March 4, 1861.

Davis, a La Sierra University Health and Exercise Science major and forward on the Golden Eagles basketball team, was among university student-athletes who attended La Sierra’s 2019 Frank Jobe Memorial Gala at the Riverside Convention Center in Riverside, Calif. Walton, noted as one of the NBA’s 50 greatest players of all time, served as keynote speaker. John also attended this year’s gala. Walton’s career includes leading the UCLA Bruins under renowned Coach John Wooden to two NCAA championships, an NBA Most Valuable Player award, two NBA championships with the Portland Trail Blazers and the Boston Celtics, and induction into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
