He is also known as Merck with his mouth because of his talkative nature and tendency to break the fourth wall. In the film, Weapon X gave Wade Wilson A.K.A. Deadpool a promise to cure his cancer if he agreed to undergo the procedure. They gave him the Wolverine healing factor, but it made him go crazy and disfigured his face terribly. Now he is on the warpath to avenge the wrong deeds done against him and will try to save his kidnapped girlfriend. Picture: Kinberg Genre/The Donners' Company/TSG Entertainment/Columbia Pictures//Pascal Pictures In many ways Deadpool and Spider-Man look like wacky roommates. They seem like they're opposites - one a jaded mercenary and another a fresh-faced teenager - but do they? Both Deadpool and Spider-Man are known for their clever mouths. Both are very athletic and flexible when it comes to not faring bad guys. Both mostly use their combat prowess complemented by some limited, not too super superpowers. Both look great in red. Both want to do what is right, although sometimes they spoil very badly. They have more in common than you think. On the other hand, both Deadpool and Spider-Man have some clear and obvious differences, especially in the way they approach their work. Deadpool is ready to jump in the face first, because he knows that he will survive something. He also tends to be a little less subtle about injuring his opponents than Spider-Man. It's worth noting that there's a comic book series called Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe, in which, yes, it kills every Marvel hero. So it's safe to say Deadpool is often more extreme than Spider-Man. But some people are sometimes more extreme. Let's find out where you fall on the side of heroism. Copyright © 2020 InfoSpace Holdings, LLC, System1 Company of all superhero movies coming up, Deadpool is the one that has had us buzzing the most. We want Batman to go to the top with Superman just like the next guy, but there's something about the R-Rated meta-comment comic hero that causes a whole separate level of excitement. This project, which was years in the making, was originally thought to have effectively killed the ill-fated X-Men Origins film, which literally sewn up Deadpool's mouth shut. After testing the footage for the full feature starring leaked, it didn't take long before the reaction of fans around the world convinced 20th Century Fox that they were sitting on the film's gold mine. It became a passion for The Reynolds Project as he tussled with the studio to get the R-rated film that Deadpool absolutely needs. Eventually it got the green light, bringing us where we are now. The first full trailer debuted last night on Conan, along with a very NSFW red band version that teases in a film that completely captures the spirit of its titular mers with his mouth. 1. This won't be a repeat of the Green Lantern debacle Source: Warner Bros Before Ryan Reynolds was Deadpool, he was Green Lantern, starring in a movie of the same name from Warner Bros. Four years later, the film is widely regarded as one of the worst superhero movies ever made, thanks in large part to a series of bad decisions by people in charge. Most importantly, they decided to make a costume Green Lantern CGI effect rather than a real costume. In the trailer for Deadpool's Red Band, we see a callback to this, with Wade Wilson making one request: Please don't make a super-suit green... Or animated! 2. Meta-humor comics will not be lost on the film We see brief glimpses of the fourth wall breaking that defines the comic Deadpool in the debut trailer, but the real self-awareness for this project belongs to 20th Century Fox. The day before the full version was released, the studio released a teaser that showed us what they understood their failures from Deadpool to X-Men X-Men The first-second teaser feature a voiceover that touts an upcoming film as coming from a studio that inexplicably stitched his f---ing mouth shut for the first time, and it's the kind of self-awareness that could make this a comic book movie without equals. 3. Deadpool will earn its R-rated Source: 20th Century Fox We haven't seen a comic book movie score an R-rated with The : War zone, and for good reason. The last thing the studio wants to do is block most of its cash appeal for blood, blood and obscene language. Deadpool though cares littles for this, and the red stripe trailer puts that on full blast. We see frequent swearing, the level of violence in Tarantino and the general tone that practically shouts, Don't bring your kids into this movie. In order to truly capture the spirit of comics, any film adaptation must enjoy the irreverentness of its source material; from his perspective, we'll see just that. 4. We will see at least two other mutants from the X-Men Universe Source: 20th Century Fox to let us forget, Deadpool gets its superpowers from the same government organization that covered Wolverine's bones in the adamantium. This puts it firmly in the X-Men 20th Century Fox canon, so it's only natural that other mutants make appearances as well. In the trailer, we catch a glimpse of at least two of them, in and Negasonic Teenage Warhead. We've seen a steel colossus in previous X-Men films, but for Deadpool it's been reworked, while the telepathic Negasonic Teenage Warhead will be making her film debut. 5. We're seeing a rare case of a movie studio coming out on a limb Source: 20th Century Fox 20th Century Fox stands to make a lot of money if this movie is as good as it looks based on an early return. But Deadpool also poses a huge risk. Between his R-rated and his meta tone, there's really no precedent for him in Hollywood. We rarely see a movie studio roll forward with anything that's not sure what the thing is, and yet here we see Fox really coming out on a limb. Our titular hero comes with a built-in cult audience, but these fans can turn on a dime if the studio is dining deadpool for the second time in a decade. There's a lot at stake here for future comic book movies, and we welcome Fox to move forward anyway. Follow Nick on @NickNorthwest More from the Entertainment Cheat sheet: Few could have predicted the phenomenal success of Deadpool, a 2016 film based on Marvel Comics' mouth mercenary that turned some early positive buzz into the biggest opening weekend of all time for an R-rated movie. Deadpool's two hits theaters in just a few weeks and that means it's only a matter of time before spoilers hit the web - although it looks like Deadpool itself is taking to prevent them. Set to be directed by John Wick co-director , the Deadpool sequel will bring back Ryan Reynolds as iconic antihero Wade Wilson, along with returning characters Colossus (Stefan Kapicic), Negasonic Teenage Warhead (Brianna Hildebrand), and taxi driver Dopinder (Karan Sonia). The film will also introduce the mutants and to the Deadpool movie universe live, with actors and zazi Betz, respectively, playing in the cast. The Deadpool sequel is out in theaters May 18, 2018. Here's everything we know about the film so far. Only you can prevent spoilers Lovingly, Wade. #deadpool2 pic.twitter.com/FEPOCVKRDc Omdash; Ryan Reynolds (@VancityReynolds) May 9, 2018 Reynolds and the crew are taking Deadpool 2 spoilers seriously. The actor posted a tweet imploring fans not to spoil the film for others, saying that only a handful of people who worked on the film know the plot of the film. Apparently, Reynolds isn't one of them? Go, get it. The letter itself is a parody of a similar one made by the crew behind Avengers: Infinity War. He even parodies a hashtag made for the Avengers movie, #ThanosDemandsYourSilence, though #WadeWilsonDemandsYourSisterSorryAutoCorrectSilence don't quite have the same snappiness to it. From the Titanic to ... Deadpool 2?! Fans have come to expect unexpected - and more often, absurd - when it comes to Deadpool movies, but the musical team between and Deadpool? It's just crazy talk. Or maybe not. Check out the video above for Dion's new single, Ashes, featuring Deadpool. Yes, Dion apparently introduced a new single for the soundtrack to Deadpool 2, and even recorded a music video featuring Dion and Deadpool himself, who accompanies the Grammy-winning singer's performance by interpreting the high-heeled dance. Yes, you're reading it right. Ash is available as a single online and on the movie soundtrack. Peter's Big Day Since its debut in the final trailer for Deadpool 2, X-Force non-mutant member Peter - played by disaster actor - has become one of the film's most fascinating focal points. He has also been the source of some clever marketing campaigns for the film. In April, Peter posted a series of photos on Twitter showing him and X-Force teammates - all but Deadpool, that is. The photos offer a good look at some of the new characters, debuting in the film (including Peter himself), and provide some insider perspective on the strange group of reluctant characters. (@PeterW_1974) April 27, 2018 Some of the great takeaways from Peter's photo-fest on Twitter include the personality and mutant ability of It actor Bill Skarsgard's character, Spirit of the Time, and possible confirmation that actor Lewis Tan's character, Shatterstar, will be an alien. Perhaps it's worth keeping an eye on Peter's social media presence in the lead-up to the film, Deadpool fans. Size Matters Never Miss Opportunity for irreverent jokes, Deadpool provided its own unique brand promotion in a recent marketing campaign for IMAX film screenings. The commercial was accompanied by a colorful poster, advertising the screening of the film in large-format cinemas. In typical Deadpool fashion, the poster is good... absolutely ridiculous. The Deadpool team honoring tickets is finally going on sale for Deadpool 2, 20th Century Fox has released the final trailer for the film on April 19. The new footage in the trailer offers a glimpse into the team Deadpool collects (including the first significant look at Lewis Tan as the mutant Shatterstar), and his reasons for putting together an eclectic group. The trailer also manages to fit into the beat on Warner Bros. Pictures' superhero universe based on DC Comics characters, and introduce the world to Peter, a guy with no mutant credentials who responded to Deadpool's announcement. As the final scene shows, Peter soon finds himself caught up in the action and vying to become the beloved new Deadpool supporting cast member. Oh, and Peter became the second deadpool man to follow on Twitter, so I have to count on something. Ready, set, tickets! During the April broadcast of The Walking Dead and the spin-off Fear of the Walking Dead, 20th Century Fox announced (via an advertisement featuring Deadpool itself) that tickets for Deadpool 2 will go on sale on Thursday, April 19. Team-ready activities We know from the trailers that Deadpool will assemble a new mutant team to help him in Deadpool 2, but so far, we haven't been sure how it will go about putting this team together. The TV spot for the film sheds some light on this very important - which apparently has an answer as funny as you'd expect from the world of Deadpool. The story of the hitherno international trailer Deadpool 2 released in March doesn't offer much in the way of new footage, but it has provided an important service: Refreshing our memories of the events that occurred in the first film. In case you forgot what happened at Deadpool, he had your back. Say hello to X-Force 20th Century Fox released another trailer for Deadpool on March 22, and along with delivering more mercenary mouth trademark humor, the preview offered more details about the film's plot and some of the new characters that will make their film debut. Primarily among the characters featured in the trailer is Brolin Cable, which gets quite a lot of screen time in the frame. Viewers also get an idea of the mutant team Deadpool is going to in a film that includes Domino Betza. The better thing is Deadpool won over viewers for the first time, and now at least one report says the film has done it again. While 20th Century Fox ordered the reshoots, the test shows went well, according to Collider. The publication reports that reshoots are not a sign of a problem, but rather a reaction to the early reaction of the audience to the two new characters. People seem to enjoy Betz as Domino and Brolin like cable so much that they are encouraged to have more scenes with newcomers. It should be noted that there have been conflicting reports of shootings. Cinema Blend noted that there were rumors that Fox ordered them because the audience did not react well to the film. However, the publication stressed that these are just rumors and that reshoots are a common part of the process of making films. This is certainly true, so we decided to be optimistic here. The studio did move up the sequel's release date, so maybe it was a vote of confidence. Goonies never say die Deadpool never met an 80s reference he didn't like, so with Brolin starring opposite Reynolds in Deadpool 2, it was only a matter of time before the callouts that the 1985 classic Goonies (which Brolin famously starred in) found their way into the film's marketing campaign. On February 12, Reynolds took things to a new, self-aware level by posting an image of Deadpool painting a portrait of Cable (Brolin) in the form of The Goonies alter ego Brolin, Brand. You like the picture of one of my French girls. Happy Birthday #JoshBrolin pic.twitter.com/4MVPKIjw4g Omdash; Ryan Reynolds (@VancityReynolds) February 12, 2018 All that remains to be seen is whether Cable plans to hit anyone so hard that when they wake up, their clothes are not in style. The Very Deadpool trailer for the first trailer for the sequel Deadpool (above) was released on February 7, and puts the focus squarely on Brolin mutant cable, with a distinctly Deadpool flair. As well as breaking down the fourth wall in the character's well-worn tradition, the trailer also includes brief scenes featuring almost every new and returning character appearing in the sequel, from the mild-mannered taxi driver Dopinder (Soni) to the mutant newcomer Domino (Beetz). Slippery when wet Deadpool fans know he can't resist the possibility of referenced classic 80s movies and television, and the poster for a sequel released in early February does just that - in a hilarious, unique character style, of course. Reynolds debuted the poster on Twitter, and it shows Deadpool in a semi-recline chair as a shower of snub bullet casings falls on him. Take your passion. And make it happen. #Deadpool pic.twitter.com/7MY7z7x6pj: Ryan Reynolds (@VancityReynolds) February 6, 2018 Poster riff on the 1983 film Flashdance, which cast Jennifer Beals as a Pittsburgh steelworker who aspires to be a professional dancer. The film is remembered for the cult scene in which The character of Beals is doused with water during a performance in a cabaret. Citing the film's slogan, Reynolds captioned the photo: Take your passion. And make it happen. Twentieth Century Fox's shuffling calendar made the sequel Deadpool a little shorter in January 2018, when the studio postponed the release date of the film from its original premiere on June 1 to a new premiere date of May 18. According to , changes have been made to avoid continuing Deadpool to compete with other X-Men spin-offs of the film New Mutants in some overseas markets. The film's new release date also changes the outlook on which films it will compete with audiences, as Deadpool's sequel now arrives on the same weekend as the horror film Slender Man and the week before Solo: A Star Wars Story hits theaters. More Disney still dirty worlds collided when Walt Disney's company acquired various assets for $52.4 billion, including a film-produced home for the sequel Deadpool. Once the reality movie Deadpool is made in a Mickey Mouse house built washed over everyone, there was a fear Disney would pick up the movie's R-rated edge. Don't be afraid, fellow profanity providers, Disney CEO assured us Deadpool would stay dirty. Deadpool has clearly been and will be a Marvel brand, but we think there may be an opportunity for the Marvel-R brand for something like Deadpool, Iger said in a recent interview. As long as we let the audience know what will happen, we think we can manage this fine. If director Leitch needs any help with story ideas now that Deadpool is under Disney's umbrella, his leading man already has a few: Time to snitch that explosive sexual tension between Deadpool and Mickey Mouse. In the classic Deadpool style, however, the footage was revealed only after Deadpool painted quite a picture... Or three. Oh, and just like the movie itself, the teaser is definitely not all age content - so consider that your not safe to work (NSFW) warning. Along with all the jokes in the teaser itself (and credits), the studio's description of the film on its YouTube channel is also good for laughs. Well, that sounds about the right to a Deadpool movie, actually. A poster to be grateful for, like its predecessor, Deadpool 2 brings us hilarious marketing materials. On November 9, Reynolds shared a new poster via Twitter, which is both timely and funny. The poster does an excellent parody job of a famous painting by Norman Rockwell's Freedom from Want, commonly referred to as the Thanksgiving Painting. The cast fills in for the original subjects of the painting, while a photograph of replaces the painting hanging on the wall. Reynolds also shared a Good Housekeeping cover that brought more Deadpool 2 holiday fun, such as tips for being a dinner hero and giving your family a bird. My secret to the right stuffing? Filming on Deadpool 2 officially ended on October 14, and Reynolds celebrated the occasion by posting a batch of photos on from the film's set, as well as a caption that reads how it was written by the mercenary's mouth himself. This wrap on DEADPOOL 2: SONG FIRE and ICE! Reynolds wrote. Thank you to our beloved captain, Mr. David Leitch... words are too clumsy to properly recognize your gigantic heart and talent. I love mine and our obscenely gifted team. From our PA, (which are the first in and last of) to our decorators and prop departments, riddling this film with Easter eggs in almost every scene... Thank you. I already miss the hired. That's why I decided to continue shooting the film in my underwear from Josh Brolin's well-appointed living room. #MaximumEffort Tragedy Strike on the set of Canada's CTV News reported On August 14 that stuntman Joy Harris was killed in a motorcycle accident while filming on the set of Deadpool 2. The sequence was filmed at Jack Poole Plaza when she lost control of her bike and veered off the set through a window at nearby Shaw Tower. CTV presenter Ben Miljure shared several photos from the scene via Twitter. Cable, are we assuming? Among the first instalment of official photos from the Deadpool sequel set was a shot of actor Josh Brolin in a make-up chair, with half of his face covered in mold in order to re-create his character's cable semi-machine look. Brolin posted a photo on Instagram and captioned it with an ominous caption. Madness is on the brink, Brolin writes. The face turns into something machine, ferocious, hair sliced, hands trained, bulging. Where's Deadpool?!? Watch. Watch. Deadpool's costume (or perhaps Deadpool himself) is crushed, crushed, on the floor, under it. Decked out in black leather gear, the character also sports a lavish afro and fiercely menacing expressions that proves she's a worthy enemy (or ally?) in a pot-mouthed man in a red suit. Just a day later, Betz posted another photo of herself in a suit on Instagram. The second photo offers a clearer shot of the white mark around the eyes - a visual signal from a comic book character colleague. Oh, Canada Filming was barely underway a week when one of the first Easter eggs from the Deadpool sequel found its way online. It's not a spoiler, but eagle-eyed Marvel Comics fans have noticed an interesting addition to the taxi used on the Vancouver movie set. Advertising at the top of the taxi appears to be pitching to an airline or travel agency going on called . It seems, however, that the name Alpha Flight may not carry a similar level of prestige in the film. Happy Birthday to whom? We might not know much about the story that brings Deadpool back to the big screen, but we do know that it will include a birthday party. In late June 2017, Just Jared posted a batch of unofficial photos from the Deadpool sequel set, including one photo posted via Twitter. The images feature Reynolds in a partial suit as a mercenary's mouth, attending - or most likely crashing - children's birthdays. More actors, more muscle In June 2017, Japanese actress Shioli Kuczan (Oh Lucy!, The Outsider) reportedly joined the cast of the sequel Deadpool in an unidentified role. According to Deadline, Kuzana plays a key role in the film. Meanwhile, Brolin offered a preview of the physique he's building to bring Deadpool's fellow mutant mercenary Cable to the screen. The actor posted a short video to Instagram showing his workout routine for the Deadpool sequel. As if that wasn't enough to ignite the fire of excitement fans for the upcoming film, Brolin upped the ante by calling out co-star Reynolds with the hashtag #ryanreynoldsismybitch. The villain cast by Josh Brolin will be stirring things like cable when Deadpool 2 arrives, but we can expect someone else to cause problems for Merc with his mouth as well. Jack Kesey has taken on a key villain role, Deadline reports. The actor joins the film, having previously appeared in the FX series The Strain, in which he portrayed a rock star who was infected with a vampire virus and later became the master of the Master's body. Needless to say, Kesey can handle an unconventional storyline, so he should be home in the upcoming superhero movie. Jack Kesey as Master in The Strain of Michael Gibson/FX, FX Networks. All rights are reserved. Only what villain Kesey will play in the sequel Deadpool, remains a secret. One of the names that Deadline sources say is the mutant Black Tom. In the comics, he is the enemy of X-Men, and he uses plants in interesting ways, including generating explosions through any wooden object. He also encounters a cable, and at some point, even them, so their interactions can be interesting. Will the real cable please stand up? After a post-credits scene in Deadpool showed that we could expect Cable's character (aka Nathan Summerds) to appear in the next film, casting speculation began. Several contenders have been named, including the apparent frontrunner, Oscar-nominated actor . As it turns out, however, the Nocturnal Animal Star won't play the mutant after all; Marvel Cinematic Universe vet Josh Brolin snagged the role, according to Variety. The Gage Skidmore/Flickr casting comes as a surprise, given that Shannon was leading the pack as the studio's best choice for the character, according to The Hollywood Reporter in mid-March. He seemed perfect, having already appeared in three comic book films - 2010s John Hex, as well as Man of Steel and the recent Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Brolin also brings this experience, but it will be a little strange to see him portray another Marvel character. He played villain in the films Guardians of the Galaxy and Avengers: Age of Ultron, and will reprise the role in Avengers: Infinity War. Don't ask us how they will deal with this if there is ever a Deadpool-Avengers crossover. Despite any strangeness in the future, Rob Leefield, one of the creators of the comics Deadpool, delighted. He posted an exclamation point-filled Facebook post, saying: 'This is OFFICIAL!!! Amazing JOSH BROLIN - CABLE!! He will join the @vancityreynolds and @zaziebeetz 2 #Deadpool 2!!! SO INTERESTING!! Yes, it happens people, Deadpool #Domino #Cable are united on screen!!! In Marvel Comics Knowledge, Cable is a powerful mutant soldier with a complex history (involving time travel and conflicting timing) and stoic behavior that often goes against Deadpool's erratic nature. The pair were enemies, allies and co-stars of the popular generic comic book series at various points, and screenwriters Rhett Reese and pointed out that Cable's origins would need to be simplified for the film. Before Brolin's casting, Shannon's name wasn't the only one who played him as an actor. Actor is also reportedly in the mix, while Bloodline and Zero Darkness actor was one of the first to lead the role in August 2016. That report seemed to have lost momentum after Deadpool director left the sequel a few months later. The art of teasing In March 2017, 20th Century Fox revved up a pending sequel to Deadpool with a short film that was shown before screenings of Logan, (presumed), the final solo film as Marvel Comics mutant Wolverine. Titled Deadpool: No Good Deed, the short film was directed by David Leitch and written by Reese, and features as Wade Wilson (aka Deadpool). The plot sees Wade trying to break up a robbery in a dark alley, only to spend so much time trying to put on a suit in a phone booth (obviously casting a shadow over Superman DC) that the victim is killed at the same time. The film concludes with Deadpool resting on the victim's body and eating ice cream from his grocery bag. Legendary Marvel Comics creator Stan Lee makes a cameo in short, which also features some graffiti teasing the upcoming debut of the feature film Mutant Cable. Changing direction plans for a Deadpool sequel were announced shortly after the first hit film hit theaters, with original director Tim Miller originally expected to return to a follow-up film. Those plans changed in the months after the film's debut, however, and Miller announced his retirement from the sequel in October 2016. While there is nothing definite as to Miller's reasons for quitting the Deadpool sequel, rumors have revealed that he and star Ryan Reynolds - who also serves as a producer on the film - have clashed over the proposed tone and casting for the second film. In September 2017, almost a year after he announced his release from the film, Miller was announced as the director of Terminator 6. He also clarified that the reason for his departure was based on his desire to do something new. I felt like there were more stories (for Deadpool) to tell there, but I'm glad that someone else is telling them. There was a sense of relief in that I get to do something new compared to Deadpool 2, Miller told Screen Rant. I think it would be a great movie, but it would also be a continuation of what we did. It really gave me the opportunity to do something new. It didn't take long for the studio to fill the director's chair.
