DOI: 10.5294/pacla.2017.20.3.7 Abstract Telefantasy series Torchwood (2006–2011, multiple production partners) was industrially and paratextually positioned as being Welsh, despite its frequent status as an international co-production. When, for series 4 (sub- titled Miracle Day, much as the miniseries produced as series 3 was subti- tled Children of Earth), the production (and diegesis) moved primarily to the United States as a co-production between BBC Worldwide and Amer- ican premium cable broadcaster Starz, fan response was negative from the announcement, with the series being termed Americanised in popular and academic discourse. This study, drawn from my doctoral research, which interrogates all of these assumptions via textual, industrial/contextual and audience analysis focusing upon ideological, aesthetic and interpretations of national identity representation, focuses upon the interactions between fan cultural capital and national cultural capital and how those interactions impact others of the myriad of reasons why the (re)glocalisation failed. It finds that, in part due to the competing public service and commercial ide- ologies of the BBC, Torchwood was a glocalised text from the beginning, de- spite its positioning as Welsh, which then became glocalised again in series 4.

Presents WIENER-DOG A film by Todd Solondz (90 min., USA, 2016) Language: English Distribution Publicity Bonne Smith Star PR 1352 Dundas St. West Tel: 416-488-4436 Toronto, Ontario, Canada, M6J 1Y2 Fax: 416-488-8438 Tel: 416-516-9775 Fax: 416-516-0651 E-mail: [email protected] E-mail: [email protected] www.mongrelmedia.com @MongrelMedia MongrelMedia SHORT SYNOPSIS From director Todd Solondz, WIENER-DOG is a dark, starkly funny story of a single dog and the many different people she touches over her short lifetime. Man’s best friend starts out teaching a young boy some contorted life lessons before being taken in by a compassionate vet tech named Dawn Wiener. Dawn reunites with someone from her past and sets off on a road trip. After leaving Dawn, Wiener-Dog encounters a floundering film professor, as well as an embittered elderly woman and her needy granddaughter—all longing for something more. Solondz’s perversely dark comedy offers an appallingly honest look at the American experience, brought to life by its all- star cast. DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT I love dogs and would love one of my own, the only problem being that I don't like walking them or feeding them or cleaning them or having to stay home because of them. When I was a child we (my family) went through a lot of them, and they never lasted very long. Todd Solondz ABOUT THE PRODUCTION DINA It’s sad, but true. We’re a dog’s only friend. Writer/Director Todd Solondz’s idiosyncratic comedies force his audiences to explore the difficult truths of the human existence.

  • Bess Rous Joins Ed Harris, Bill Pullman, Amy Madigan and Glenne Headly in the Jacksonian
BESS ROUS JOINS ED HARRIS, BILL PULLMAN, AMY MADIGAN AND GLENNE HEADLY IN THE JACKSONIAN Tony Award Winner Robert Falls Helms Pulitzer Prize Winner Beth Henley’s World Premiere in the Audrey Skirball Theater at the Geffen Playhouse Opening Night February 15, 2012 LOS ANGELES, December 16, 2011 — Young stage and screen actress Bess Rous completes the already star- packed cast of The Jacksonian, taking on the role of Rosy Perch, Susan and Bill Perch’s daughter. Written by Pulitzer Prize winner Beth Henley, this eerie world-premiere is set in a seedy motel in Jackson, Mississippi circa 1964 and features four-time Oscar nominee and Broadway vet Ed Harris (who appeared at the Geffen Playhouse in Wrecks) as Bill Perch, a dentist with ambiguous morality who goes to the Jacksonian Motel to bury his secrets. Estranged from his wife, played by Amy Madigan (Broadway’s Streetcar Named Desire and Oscar nominee for Twice in a Life Time), Perch makes his new home in the motel’s unsettling world where the subversive becomes commonplace and the passage of time becomes hauntingly unpredictable. As the Perch’s lives become intertwined with the inhabitants of the motel – proprietor Fred Weber played by Bill Pullman (most recently seen on Broadway in Oleanna and on-screen in HBO’s Too Big to Fail) and bartender Glenne Headly (most recognizable for her big- screen role in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and recently seen at the Geffen Playhouse in the live radio reading of It’s a Wonderful Life) – the audience is taken on a surreal trip that is rife with disturbingly dark humor.

JT Walsh 1943-1998 JT Walsh REFLECTIONS OF A FRIEND Marc J. Seifer MetaScience Productions Box 32, Kingston, RI 02881 © March 4, 1998 James Patrick Walsh was born in San Francisco on September 22, 1943. At the age of 5, his family moved to a military base in Munich in post-WWII Europe for the first seven years and then moved to Stuttgart until Jim was in his late teens. His father, a civilian comptroller for the military, was a strict disciplinarian, who shipped Jim and a year later, his brother Chris, to a Jesuit boarding school in Ireland, the land of their forefathers, when they were old enough, and that is where they stayed for six years. Likening the experience to that of prison life, Jim and his brother looked forward to their return home during the holidays. At that time, they became the center of 1 attention, bringing back to their sisters Mary and Patricia and their parents, adventurous and sometimes hilarious stories of life in this austere environment. In 1952, due in part to the urging of a friend of the family, Jim’s father took the boys to Dachau, where they looked over the ovens and toured the concentration camp. This event stayed with Jim always, and had a telling effect on his view of humanity and his personality. Later, he would say that he drew on those experiences when he played some of the darker characters he was cast as. At the age of 19, he attended the University of Tübingen. However, when his father died of a brain tumor in 1962, his mother took the family back to Rhode Island where Mrs.
