fans in the first year of the second separation for thr men’s and women’s championships. Kate Caithness of Scotland, president of the World Curling Federation, said: “We’re Business Telephone Systems delighted to be returning to Victoria for the 2013 Ford World Men’s Championship. Previ- ous events held at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre have been hugely successful and Structured Cabling Systems a great platform for what is one of the pinnacles of It will be the 21st time that Canada has staged the World men’s championship since 1959, the fifth time it’s been hosted by the Converged Technologies province (1966, 1987, 1998 and 2005) and the second time in Victoria. Wireless Technologies “In collaboration with our partner, the World Curling Federation, the CCA is delighted to have the beautiful city of Victoria host another major curling championship,” said Greg Building Security Stremlaw, Chief Executive Officer of the Canadian Curling Association. Telephone Networks “The Ford Worlds was highly successful in 2005, and we believe that Victoria is primed to build on this success in 2013.” Business Partners Added veteran hoist-committee co-chair Keith Dagg, who ran the previoius Worlds: “My Proud Sponsor of co-chair, Chris Atchison, and myself, along with the entire curling community, are thrilled that the Ford World is returning to Victoria.” “We both worked on the 2005 championship, the first ever sports event held at the then www.telebyte.ca new Save-on- Foods Memorial Centre, and we’re proud that 17 of the 22 draws sold out. As a result, the host committee made a significant profit and the city now has a terrific Toll Free 1.800.565.1849 curling program as a legacy of hosting the event.” Canada has won a leading 33 world men’s titles since 1959, and is currently the reign- ing champion, having won in 2011 (skip Jeff Stoughton), when it was held in Regina. When British Columbia has hosted the Worlds, Canada has not lost. In 1966 and 1987, when held in Vancouver, it was won by Ron Northcott and Russ Howard, respectively. In 1998 in Kamloops, Canada’s Wayne Middaugh prevailed and in 2005 in Victoria, Canada’s Randy Ferbey emerged from a wild six- way tie for first place to claim victory. The 2013 Ford Worlds will also determine most of the countries (excluding host Russia) which will qualify for the men’s competi- tion at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia, based on the cumulative results/standings at the 2012 and 2013 champion- ships. Meanwhile, the 2013 World women’s curling championship has been awarded to Riga, capital of Latvia.

The Women's Outreach has a 25 year history in Red Deer and central Alberta as an advocate for women and their children. While the delivery of services and programs has evolved over the years, the mandate to assist women who have chosen to pursue a safer, healthier, and more secure life for themselves and their families has remained consistent.

The Women’s Outreach is proud to support the Scotties Tournament of Hearts and give back the community which has graciously given to us.

And the next one is always just as big as the one we just played. We’re trying to keep it really simple. “There’s such a spirit in this crowd and it keeps you going when your legs are tired. There’s such an electric feeling out here in the Centrium. It is a lot of fun. “Every team out here as the same objectives and the same goals and I don’t underestimate any one of them.” ------Marie-France Larouche has mostly happy memories of Red Deer. She was the Scotties runnerup here in 2004. “It seems like all the people are with me here,” she says. “I love this place. I have some great memories from here. Oh, and one bad memory.” She bowed to Colleen Jones in the 2004 final. Previously, she worked in the pork industry over the previous summer in order to work on her English. She hadn’t been back since . . . until this week. ------Larouche insists her new batting order has nothing to do with the fact the last one struggled to a 4-7 record last year at Charlottetown. “No, no,” says Larouche. “(Lead) Veronique Brassard had a baby, (sec- ond) Veronique Gregoire is pregnant, (third) Annie Lemay wasn’t to take off a couple of years with young kids because Jean-Michel Menard, her husband, plays a lot. So I needed a new team. But they all are still friends of mine.” As for the new supporting cast — Brenda Nicholls, Amelie Blais and Anne-Marie Filtreau? “We play for this year and our goal was to come here,” says Larouche. “We didn’t talk about next year. I have a little baby. I may want another one. If I play next year I will play with these girls. Brenda has a lot of experience and she’s good for me. Her former skip, Eve Belisle (Montreal) wanted to Marie-France Larouche: New batting order for family reasons. leave the game for a while.”
