PALACE PIER TO THE TEST IN MAROIS TREAT DOMINATES With (Kitten=s Joy) heading to York, Europe=s leading AT DEAUVILLE 3-year-old miler status is there for the taking and >TDN Rising Star= (GB) ( {GB}) might prove in Sunday=s G1 Prix du Haras de Fresnay-le-Buffard Jacques le Marois that he already holds the rights to that title. Stepping straight to the highest level from novice and handicap company to land Royal Ascot=s G1 St James=s Palace S. with relative comfort on June 20, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum=s unbeaten colt is in that unique position of being open to further progression despite having already crested one of racing=s summits. With Deauville=s ground reported as Areally heavy@ by on Saturday, an unknown element is in play and we will learn a lot more about the Clarehaven luminary after the event. His sire Kingman won this on similarly easy ground in 2014 and the fact that Frankie gave up the whole of York=s meeting to take the ride speaks volumes of the regard in which he is held. Frankie Dettori looking for instant compensation for missing next week=s Ebor meeting at York and he gained it at Deauville on Saturday as the G1 Prix du winner Mishriff (Ire) ( {GB}) proved a class apart in the G2 Prix Guillaume d=Ornano Haras du Logis Saint-Germain. Content to track the pace in second, Prince Faisal=s homebred moved to the front at the top of the straight and drew away to confirm July 5 Chantilly Classic placings with The Summit (Fr) (Wootton Bassett {GB}) and Victor Ludorum (GB) (). At the line, he was stronger than anywhere and the 4 1/2-length winning margin was a true reflection of the state of affairs. AThey went slow early on, but the tempo increased and he was well within his rhythm,@ commented Dettori, who is due to stay in Deauville for next weekend=s action. AHe hasn=t stopped Palace Pier winning the St James=s Palace S. improving and he feels like a real nice one. The ground is really Alan Crowhurst/Getty Images heavy and it made it much more than a mile-and-a-quarter race, so I would say I think he=ll stay a mile and a half. I walked the course and it=s quicker against the hedge, but he likes soft ground and finishes off his races strong. Mishriff Dominates At Deauville cont. from p1 Mishriff, who had also taken the Listed Newmarket S. over this trip on June 6 prior to his Jockey Club success, has options open now according to Prince Faisal=s racing manager Ted Voute. AHe looks like the 3-year-old colt at the moment,@ he stated. AIt was great. It was a good job Frankie went over--he=s a master tactician and looking at the race he was trying to find all the best ground, as they all did, and he was the best on the day. We are pleased and the Prince is absolutely delighted. We haven=t talked about anything in the future, but the race to consider would logically be the [G1] Champion S. at Ascot. I don=t think we=d go to Ireland. He=s done some travelling, so it would be nice to win a Group 1 on his homeland. He=s a big, scopey horse. We=ve not talked about his 4-year-old career yet. Everything is up in the air and is all to be decided between the Prince and John. He=s not in the Arc, we=d have to supplement and we=ve got the prize money now to be able to do that. I think a serious conversation will happen between the Prince and John. They will decide at the appropriate time whether to do that or go for the Champion S. John=s the master and the Prince is an experienced owner. They will thrash out the next spot for him.@ The Summit was having his last race on French soil for trainer Henri-Alex Pantall and he said, AThe winner proved superior in the Jockey Club and did so again today, so we have no complaints and no excuses. Swiss Skydiver Romps (cont. from p1) Bonny South (Munnings) came on late to best Harvey=s Lil Goil for second. AI felt comfortable the whole way around there,@ Gaffalione said. AShe was just carrying me. She had her mind on business and she knew exactly what she wanted to do today. She put in a big performance. Hopefully, we didn=t take too much out of her and she=ll be good to go for the Oaks. Gaffalione continued, AI figured Javier [Castellano] would go with Crystal Ball. She was pretty hard-sent last time and ran well from that forward position. I broke well, but Javier was chasing after his filly, so I didn't want to get in a speed duel. My filly came back to me nicely and she settled great. I was slowing her down around the turn just to stay with that filly. I didn=t want to take too much away from her. I just let her out a notch and she did the rest on her own.@

It=s going to get a lot of attention. We don=t have any fear of her. The filly was a first-out winner at Churchill Downs the following November and first announced her arrival on the big stage with a front- running 3 1/4-length victory in the Mar. 28 GII Gulfstream Park Oaks. She bettered Oaks hopefuls Venetian Harbor (Munnings) and Shedaresthedevil (Daredevil) by 2 1/2 lengths in the May 1 GIII Fantasy S. and was a dominant four-length winner of the June 6 GII Santa Anita Oaks. Tackling the boys with an eye towards a possible GI tilt, Swiss Skydiver only Art Collector (Bernardini) too good after setting the pace at Keeneland in the Blue Grass. While that effort earned her enough points to enter the Derby, McPeek said the Oaks was the more likely target for the filly. AI=m pretty sure it=s going to be the Oaks,@ McPeek said. Domestic Spending Upsets Saratoga Derby (cont. from p1) Decorated Invader was content to stalk from second as the chestnut gelding set fractions of :23.41 and :47.76 and Domestic Spending and No Word rated patiently some five lengths off the pacesetter. Decorated Invader reeled in Get Smokin turning for home and, while Domestic Spending shadowed the favorite=s move, No Word was finding running room down along the rail as a slew of rivals were picking up steam from the back of the pack. Domestic Spending forged to the lead and Colonel Liam (Liam=s Map) made a menacing move from the center of the course, but it was Gufo a path farther out who was the biggest danger, uncorking a furious late rush to just miss.
