CRISIS RESPONSE CARE (CRC) TRAININGS Four CISM (Critical Incident Stress Management) courses will be offered at the Hoffman Estates Village Hall this summer. On July 11 & 12, Understanding Suicide or Spiritual and Psychological First Aid are being offered. On July 13 & 14, Following Trauma or Emotional and Spiritual Care in Disasters are being offered. The classes are scheduled for 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. Each class provides 14 hours of credit. Usually these courses cost $250-350 each, but these are free. NAMI MCHENRY COUNTY The McHenry County Mental Health Board is holding a Town Hall Meeting open to the entire McHenry County community. In lieu of our regular monthly NAMI General Meeting and Support Groups, we are encouraging everyone to attend this Town Hall Meeting and share your thoughts on issues that matter to you. There will be three breakout sessions on: Mental Illness, Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, and Substance Abuse. ASSOCIATION FOR INDIVIDUAL DEVELOPMENT (AID) Association for Individual Development (AID) in collaboration with Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church will be launching “pop-up” community mental health services in Harvard beginning on Thursday, May 25, 2017 and continuing every Thursday from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm. The highly qualified AID staff of licensed mental health counselors will offer outpatient individual and family counseling in English and Spanish every Thursday at Trinity, located at 504 East Diggins Road. In addition, the AID Supported Living Team will connect with those residents of the Harvard area who need “a bit of extra support” to maintain mental wellness and independent living standards. Case Management services occur right in the individual’s own home and community. GROUPS & GATHERINGS CONSUMER GROUPS AND MEETINGS Mondays Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) for veterans and family members An introductory meeting will be held Monday, January 16, 2017 at 5:30 for veterans and family members facing sleeplessness, unwelcomed thoughts, anxiety, quick temper, and other concerns. This meeting will introduce the 8-week series of meetings to learn and practice the ‘tapping’ techniques as well as related information to help decrease these concerns. AA Group held Mondays at New Horizons site in Hebron AA holds an open meeting at 10513 Rte. 47 in Hebron (next to the Crandall’s Chicken restaurant) on Monday evenings from 7:00-8:00 pm. Meeting is hosted by a military veteran and all are welcomed.

Support group for persons with Parkinson’s disease The free Family Alliance support group for persons living with Parkinson’s disease is held on the 1st Monday of each month at our Huntley facility from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. Contact Alan Mogilner at 708.507.6809 for information or to RSVP.

Therapy for persons with Parkinson’s disease Family Alliance free music therapy program for persons living with Parkinsons is on the 2nd & 4th Mondays of each month from 9:30 am – 10:30 am and 10:30 am – 11:30 am at the Huntley facility. Bereavement Support Group This Family Alliance support group open to persons age 50+ who are experiencing grief or loss. Meets the 2nd & 4th Monday of each month from 4:30 to 6:00 pm at the Woodstock location. Please RSVP before meeting date to Jackie at 224-654-6307.

Brain Injury Caregivers Support Group The Caregivers support group is for parents, spouses, and other family members giving care to an adult or child who has experienced a brain injury. This is an informal group providing mutual support and strategies to take care of oneself while caring for others. Recovery International The Recovery International program provides weekly peer-led self-help meetings. The Recovery International method is a system of cognitive behavioral techniques developed by neuropsychiatrist Abraham Low, MD, used to change thoughts and behaviors; changes in attitudes and beliefs follow. This group meets Mondays at 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm at Centegra Hospital Huntley, 10400 Haligus Road, Main Entrance – Room C. Call Rose Hamann, Group Leader, at 847.961.6295 for additional information.

Spousal Caregiver Support Group This Family Alliance support group is open to spouses caring for someone affected by Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of dementia. This group meets every 2nd Monday of the month at 10:30 am – 12:00 pm at the Woodstock location. To RSVP call 815.338.3590.

Family Alliance Caregiver Support Groups These groups are for residents of Del Webb Sun City-Huntley who are giving care to someone affected by Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of dementia. This group is offered at no cost, by Family Alliance. This group meets the 2nd & 4th Monday of each month from 10:30 am – 12:00 pm at Del Webb Sun City (Fountain View F). HeadWinds Family Support Group HeadWinds is a support group for families and individuals who have experienced traumatic brain injury. The support group works to meet the needs of families and survivors facing the special issues of brain injury and accessing appropriate supports and services. Childhood Sexual Abuse Survivor Group This group is for women who are dealing with the impact of childhood sexual abuse in their lives. The group will meet once per week for 10 weeks at Northwest CASA, 415 W. Golf Road, Suite 47 in Arlington Heights. Tuesdays Alzheimer’s & Dementia Family/Caregiver Support Group The Valley Hi Alzheimer’s & Dementia Family Support Group will held on the 2nd Tuesday of the month at 6:00 pm at 2406 Hartland Road, Woodstock, IL. For additional information, please call 815.334.2817.

Recovery Support Group The Recovery Group at The Other Side in Crystal Lake is designed to provide a starting point for people struggling with addiction in their family. This group meets every Tuesday night at 7pm. The Recovery Group is open to anyone who has been effected by substance abuse or addiction. The attendants range from family, friends and loved ones of people suffering from addiction to people struggling with addiction themselves as well as people in various stages of recovery, 2 weeks to 15 years sober. Family Support Group This Family Alliance Support Group for Families caring for someone with Alzheimer’s or dementia. Respite care available for adult love ones while caregiver attends meeting. PFLAG McHenry/McHenry County PFLAG McHenry/McHenry County Chapter meets the second Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. The meetings are held at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation in McHenry (5603 W. 5/16/2017 The Renewal Center – A Wellness Oasis for Survivors The Renewal Center focuses on people who have finished day-to-day medical treatment and are trying to move forward with their lives. The end of treatment is not the end of dealing with healing. When patients are in treatment, they are trying to survive and can’t really feel the full emotional impact that being diagnosed with cancer involves. Once patients have completed treatment they are ready to begin dealing with the emotional aspects and other issues of cancer survivorship. The Renewal Center, a 501(c) non-profit organization, enables cancer survivors to connect with others and build a supportive community. All services to cancer survivors are free of charge. Operation Enduring Freedom/Operation Iraqi Freedom Veterans Welcomed! NAMI Family Support Group NAMI trained facilitators provide peer education and support for adult family members who have a loved one with a mental illness. Group meets in a supportive and confidential setting every Wednesday from 7-8:30 pm at Woodstock Centegra Hospital in the Heart Center. FREE. No registration required. Recovery – Parents Supporting Parents This group is for parents of teens and young adults who have behavioral and substance abuse/addiction issues. Please join us on the second Wednesday of every month at 7:00pm – 8:30pm at: The Senior Services Associates building, 110 West Woodstock Street. Crystal Lake, IL 60014 (next to the police station). Go in the side Door and look for a lighted TEAM CURRAN sign outside. Meetings through 12/31/2016 –June 8 , July 13, August we will not meet, September 14, October 12, November 9, and December 14. Prairie State Legal Services Free Monthly Legal Services Clinic for Low Income and Senior Veterans at the Veterans Assistance Commission Offices, 667 Ware Road, Woodstock, Il, every 3rd Wednesday of each month from 2:00 – 4:00pm. Parents of Transgender Individuals (PTI) PTI offers a safe environment for parents to share experiences and feelings as we navigate the journey of transition of our children. This group meets on the 4th Wednesday of each month at 7:00 PM at the Tree of Life Universalist Unitarian Congregation in McHenry at 5603 W. Bull Valley Rd, McHenry. Caregiver Support Group This Family Alliance support group is for caregivers of a person with physical, emotional or cognitive disabilities. Thursdays Survivors of Crime Victim’s Support Group This support group meets the 1st and 3rd Thursday of every month through September 2017 at the McHenry County Mental Health Board at 620 Dakota Street in Crystal Lake from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm. This group was designed for those that have lost a loved one to a criminal act. We will be focusing on the personal journey with grief in a safe and supportive environment. This is an opportunity to meet with others survivors in a group setting who are experiencing similar trauma. The support group is free and open to the community. Fridays Celebrate Recovery Celebrate Recovery is a Christ-centered, 12-step recovery program based on the Beatitudes of Jesus Christ. We are a safe place to share. A refuge, a place of belonging, to care for others and to be cared for, where respect is given to each member, and confidentiality is required. A place to learn, grow, and become strong again, where you can remove your masks. Celebrate Recovery is also a place for healthy challenges, healthy risks, and a possible turning point in your life. Celebrate Recovery meets every Friday night. There is no cost to attend, and visitors are always welcome. *6 pm Dinner, 7 pm large group meeting, 8 pm small groups, 9 pm Crosstalk Café. * Dinner is optional, but we would love to have you join us! Survivors of Suicide Attempt Support Group Mission Survivors of Suicide Attempt Support Group (SOSA) offers suicide attempt survivors a nonjudgmental place to talk about their experiences. Members are encouraged to share their stories to support each other and learn new ways to cope with suicidal thoughts. Through peer and clinician-guided support, SOSA seeks to encourage a supportive community to foster the development of effective coping skills and build hope for the future.

details Survivors of Suicide Attempt Support Group is an eight-week private group that will meet once a week from 7-8:30pm at Centegra South Street, 527 W. South St., Woodstock. More information on a start date and future sessions will be provided as it becomes available. Each session will include six to eight participants, a peer facilitator with lived experience and a clinician.

This is a free group designed to support adults 18 and older who have survived a suicide attempt and are not at imminent risk of suicide. Though not a requirement, participants are encouraged to be in outpatient treatment, such as individual counseling or case management, as additional support outside this group. SOSA may not be appropriate for individuals who are struggling with active symptoms of psychosis or who are actively using substances that would interfere with their ability to participate effectively.
