Classes got right behind the Kiwis’ quest for medals and a couple — Te Kaharoa and Kuraiti — got a taste of competitive action at an Olympics tabloids competition. Activities were themed on a range of Olympic sports including fencing, hockey and equestrian, and the skills required such as balance, speed and accuracy. Teamwork and leadership skills were other important aspect of the competition. The Olympic tabloid event appropriately ended with a trophy and medal ceremony. Over the duration of the Olympic Games, students got to watch New Zealand team members in action, highlighted by their gold medal-winning efforts, which drew plenty of cheers from their fans thousands of kilometres away on the East Coast.
