THOROUGHBRED RACING S.A. LIMITED STIPENDIARY STEWARDS' REPORT Report on Race Meeting held at Morphettville Parks Racecourse by the South Australian Jockey Club on Saturday, 22 February 2020 Stewards: M. Santoro (A/Chairman) & S. Callanan (HT), (Steward). A. Streckbein (M) & E. Tickner (F) (Cadet Stewards) D. Jonas, A. Bittner, K. Rawson, B. Hallett, L. Martin & R. Seneca (Deputy Stewards), Dr P. Horridge & Dr A. Agnew (Veterinary Surgeons). TRACK: Good 4 (Track with some give in it) Upgraded to a Good 3 at 2.10 pm (Track with good grass coverage and cushion) RAIL: Out 3 metres 1000 metres to winning post, true remainder sectional 604 metres WEATHER: Fine RIDER CHANGES: Race Horse Rider Replaced By Reason 7 EXALTED TRAIL R. Hurdle Late notification ------------------------------------ RACE 1: ADELAIDE GALVANISING HANDICAP - 1250 metres The start of this event was delayed approximately four minutes. MAN OF HIS WORD (D. Dunn) - a post-race veterinary examination revealed no visible abnormalities. OAMARU OWL (J. Maund) - slow to begin. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages of the event. Laid out rounding the home turn. Rider reported the gelding did not feel comfortable throughout the event, had not travelled in the manner it had when he had ridden it previously, and for this reason he had not ridden OAMARU OWL out in his normal manner over the concluding 200 metres. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no visible abnormalities. ENIGMAN (T. Pannell) - reared on jumping away, became awkward and was slow into stride. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no visible abnormalities. EASY BEAST (NZ) (L. Doodt) - raced keenly in the early and middle stages of the event. Raced in restricted room in the early and middle stages when awkwardly placed between RUNSON and OAMARU OWL, which was inclined to shift about. Lost its near hind plate during the event. BEAUTY (J. Holder) - lost its near fore plate en route to the barriers and required farrier attention. RACE 2: FURPHY THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE – 1000 metres BOOM BOOM BECKER (T. Stockdale) - shifted in on jumping away contacting OOLONG GAZE. DEEVINE (D. Tourneur) - raced keenly in the early and middle stages of the event. Lad in under pressure in the straight. Rider accidentally dropped his near side rein approaching the finish. OOLONG GAZE (J. Holder) - jumped away awkwardly and shifted out contacting BOOM BOOM BECKER. Rider reported the gelding slipped behind on jumping away. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the off foreleg. Trainer Mr K. Sweeney was advised a Veterinary Certificate of Fitness would be required prior to presenting the horse for a future trial or race. Zeckner) - had difficulty obtaining clear ground in the straight. ASHADY PAST (J. Toeroek) - jumped away awkwardly. Inconvenienced in the vicinity of the 200 metres when MOUNT BEAUTY shifted out. Raced wide without cover throughout the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no visible abnormalities. HEART LIKE MINE (G. Lo) - difficulty obtaining clear ground from the entrance to the straight until inside the 200 metres. SELLIX (A. Jordsjo) - raced wide without cover throughout the event. ZARAFSHAN (J. Chau) - rider reported his saddle had shifted back in the middle stage of the event placing him at a disadvantage. MOUNT BEAUTY (T. Pannell) - laid out under pressure in the straight. In the vicinity of the 200 metres shifted out onto ASHADY PAST. Rider reported the filly never travelled and felt uncomfortable in its action in the straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no visible abnormalities. RACE 3: SCHWEPPES HANDICAP – 1000 metres MIRACLEOFMIRACLES (G. Lo) - jumped away awkwardly. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no visible abnormalities. CANIDAE (S. Fawke) - jumped away awkwardly. DEVONTE (A. Jordsjo) - slow to begin. MIAMI FREEDOM (L. Neindorf) - shifted in, in the vicinity of the 700 metres onto CAN STAR. Rider severely reprimanded. CAN STAR (T. Stockdale) raced keenly in the early and middle stages of the event. In the vicinity of the 700 metres had to momentarily take hold and alter course when MIAMI FREEDOM shifted in. RACE 4: HAPPY 40TH LYNDA HANDICAP - 2400 metres FLOW METER (T. Pannell) - shifted out on jumping away onto FRANKED (GB). A post-race veterinary examination revealed no visible abnormalities. AZURITE (IRE) (A. Jordsjo) - slow to begin. Held up from the vicinity of the 500 metres until near the 300 metres. LOSTARC (J. Chau) - taken in on jumping away by COFFEE AMOUR onto FRANKED (GB). Rider pleaded guilty to a charge under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip on more than five occasions prior to the 100 metres and was reprimanded. FRANKED (GB) (J. Cartwright) - severely hampered and lost its position on jumping away when tightened between FLOW METER and LOSTARC. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no visible abnormalities. COFFEE AMOUR (L. Neindorf) - taken in on jumping away onto LOSTARC. Raced wide without cover throughout the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no visible abnormalities. MATAS (J. Eaton) - obliged to alter course at the entrance to the straight to obtain clear ground. TURF MAN (S. Fawke) - laid out rounding the home turn. Lo) - shifted in on jumping away onto COFFEE AMOUR. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages of the event. RACE 5: HAPPY BIRTHDAY TONY HANDICAP – 1000 metres The start of this event was delayed approximately two minutes. MUM'S MY HERO (G. Lo) - held up from the entrance to the straight until the vicinity of the 150 metres and in obtaining clear ground brushed with SALOME for a short distance when that filly attempted the same run. WHITE KAPS (K. Crowther) - jumped away awkwardly, shifted in bumping ALL IN BRAWL. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages of the event. Laid out rounding the home turn. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no visible abnormalities. ALL IN BRAWL (L. Doodt) - re-saddled on arrival at the barriers. Jumped away awkwardly and shifted in bumping WHITE KAPS. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the near foreleg. Trainer Mr R. Laming was advised a Veterinary Certificate of Fitness would be required prior to presenting the horse for a future trial or race. MIHANY (D. Tourneur) - laid out under pressure in the straight. WOTUWANT (J. Eaton) - jumped away awkwardly got its head up and struck its rider. Taken wider approaching the 100 metres by SALOME. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no visible abnormalities. SALOME (L. Neindorf) - struck a perimeter fence on leaving the mounting yard. Underwent a pre- race veterinary examination and passed fit to race. In the vicinity of the 150 metres attempted the same run as MUM’S MY HERO resulting in these two runners brushing for a short distance and SALOME being taken out onto ALL IN BRAWL. LORD VARYS (J. Toeroek) - Stewards permitted J. Toeroek to ride the gelding 0.5 kg over its declared weight of 54kg. RACE 6: METAL-LINK HANDICAP - 1400 metres WEDGETAIL (T. Pannell) - inclined to shift about in the early stages. Approaching the 1000 metres rolled in slightly away from ISCARIOT onto AUTUMN SLENDOUR, which was taken in onto REGAL CROWN. Rider severely reprimanded and advised in future to make a far greater effort to keep his mounts straight when they commence to shift ground in future. ISCARIOT (A. Tomita) - raced keenly in the early stages of the event. PICARGO (D. Tourneur) - inconvenienced on jumping away when taken out by GRINZINGER BREW (NZ) onto PUISSANCE DUSOLEIL. REGAL CROWN (S. Fawke) - jumped away awkwardly. In the vicinity of the 1000 metres was forced to race in restricted room for a number of strides when awkwardly placed inside the heels of AUTUMN SLENDOUR, and shortly after clipped the heels of that filly and lost its position. Rider reported that he became concerned with the gelding’s action in the vicinity of the 500 metre and for this reason he did not ride his mount out in the straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no visible abnormalities. SOWPODS (J. Toeroek) - jumped away awkwardly and shifted out onto GRINZINGER BREW (NZ). Raced fiercely in the early and middle stages of the event. Laid in throughout the event. Approaching the 1000 metres was forced to race in restricted room for a number of strides when tightened onto REGAL CROWN by WEDGETAIL. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no visible abnormalities. GRINZINGER BREW (NZ) (A. Jordsjo) - taken out on jumping away onto PICARGO. PUISSANCE DUSOLEIL (P. Gatt) - hampered on jumping away when PICARGO was taken out into its running line. RACE 7: TAB HANDICAP - 1250 metres CALL ME CURTIS (L. Neindorf) - jumped away awkwardly and shifted out onto COTILLION. Lost its near hind plate during the event. EXALTED TRAIL (R. Hurdle) - raced keenly in the early and middle stages of the event. A post- race veterinary examination revealed no visible abnormalities. KENYAN WONDER (D. Tourneur) - had difficulty in obtaining clear ground from the entrance to the straight until the vicinity of the 300 metres. Stewards questioned rider in relation to his riding over the concluding stages and after doing so, D. Tourneur pleaded guilty to a charge under AR131(b) in that he failed to ride his mount out to the end of the race and was fined $400.
