Published 5 authored and edited books, 50 articles in academic journals, 30 chapters in edited books in the fields of business history, international business, economic history and development economics. Google Scholar h-index of 25 and 259 citations during 2018-2019. Ranked in the global top 4% of economists by publications in the IDEAS bibliographic database. Supervised 24 PhD, Master and honours students. Organised and taught 24 semester courses in academia. Extensive experience with administration in academia, service to the academic profession, and commercial consultancies.

Current research interests

I am an economist and historian with academic interests in the overlapping areas of business history and international business, as well as economic history and development economics.  My current research in international business relates to (a) the organisation and strategy of Chinese and Japanese firms and their subsidiaries in Southeast Asia, and (b) barriers to trade and investment between Australia and the countries of the European Union.  In business history, my current research focuses on (a) headquarter-subsidiary relations in MNEs, and MNE strategic responses to perceived risk in host countries, and (b) market development and perceptions of corporate social responsibility in .  In economic history, my research focuses on the explanation of long-term economic growth and standards of living in Indonesia, particularly the role of institutions in the development of product and factor markets.  Spanning business history, international business and development economics is my research interest in the nexus of famine, international food aid and trade to less-developed countries in Asia.
