In the interest of horse welfare, RoR has implemented new conditions for anyone entering a horse at this event. Dressage: There is a restriction to the number of classes that any horse may be entered in, on a single day. Horses competing at Novice level or below: 4 classes including warm-up tests, Elementary & Medium 3 classes including warm- up tests, Advanced Medium and above – 2 classes including warm-up In Hand and Ridden Showing, Jumping, Arena Eventing and Retrained Racehorse classes: please consider your entries carefully. RoR’s Head of Welfare will be on site during the event and will request the removal of any horse from any arena if she believes that the horse’s welfare is compromised. In all ridden classes (dressage, jumping and showing) horses must be aged 4 years or over.

Dressage Guidelines for competitors.

All Dressage classes will be judged under British Dressage rules.

**Whips and Callers are NOT allowed in the Championship classes**

Times will be published on Monday 23rd August after 5pm.

Two Bridle Numbers must be worn during working in and whilst competing and must be clearly visible

No draw reins or martingales allowed.

Breast plates are allowed. Intro, Prelim and Novice classes — snaffle bridles only.

Competitors may enter Championship classes at two consecutive levels only, so long as they are qualified.

Showjumping Guidelines for competitors

All Showjumping will be judged under British Showjumping rules and as Style and Performance classes

Competitor numbers must be worn and must be clearly visible

In the event of any class being over/under subscribed, we reserve the right to cancel any open class of our choice and a full refund of entries will be given. In the event of the open dressage classes being oversubscribed, then priority will be given to those competing in Championship classes at the same level.

11 3 Phase Challenge Competition 3 20 Horse/rider combinations competing at affiliated BE100 level before close of entries for this event are not eligible to participate.

PHASE I: Dressage Test (20 x 40m) (20 points) Marks will not be awarded for individual movements but the test will be marked for general impression and overall performance (paces, impulsion, rider position and accuracy). Error of course = Minus one point for each error. Fall of horse and/or rider = Elimination DRESSAGE TEST – (callers are allowed, whips are not allowed) A Enter in working trot, from X proceed directly to M working trot, C Serpentine 3 loops each loop to go to side of arena finishing at A. F X H change rein showing some lengthened strides, between H & C working canter right, C circle right 20m diameter. M X K change the rein with transition to trot between X and K, between K and A working canter left, A circle left 20m diameter, between A and F working trot, between F and B medium walk. B half 20m circle left in free walk on a long rein to E, E directly to A – leave arena free walk on a long rein. Followed immediately by PHASE II No change of tack/equipment between phases apart from adding a body protector for the jumping phase and the removal of boots (and martingales/body protectors if nec) for the conformation phase. PHASE II (60 points): Jumping (40 points) & Style & Performance whilst jumping (20 points) A course of 8 to 10 coloured jumps, including a double. Maximum height of fences - 85cm. Scoring as follows: Knockdown = 5 penalties, 1st refusal = 5 penalties, 2nd refusal = 10 penalties, 3rd refusal = Elimination, Error of course = Elimination, Fall of horse and/or rider = Elimination. Penalties are cumulative. A jumping whip (max length 75cm) is allowed. PHASE III: Conformation (20 points) Each horse to be presented, “stripped” in front of the judge. NO boots are to be worn for this phase. Competitors will be asked to walk the horse away from the Judge in a straight line, turn and trot back before standing up for final assessment. Total for all 3 phases = 100 points Note: In the event of equality of marks, the team with the highest total jumping mark will be given precedence. If marks are still equal the conformation mark will count. Note to Judges: Half marks may be awarded in all phases and must be indicated clearly on the Score Sheet. Competitor info: HORSES Horses will NOT be ridden by the judge. Any suitable English bridle of plain leather with a bit. Anatomical and Micklem bridles are permitted without clips. Hoods, blinkers and bitless bridles are not allowed. Permitted Nosebands – plain, flash, drop, grackle and Mexican. Front boots, inc overreach, only and martingales/breastplates are optional for phases I and II however boots must be removed for phase III. Hind boots are NOT permitted in any phase of the competition. No rugs, clothing or items of tack that reveal the identity of the horse or the owner may be worn in the ring. Nose nets and earplugs are allowed. Blunt spurs are permitted in all sections of the competition. RIDERS: Competitors must wear a current standard safety hat or skullcap. Team colours/cross country kit may be worn. Back protectors are recommended for the jumping phase. Fancy dress is not allowed. Gloves must be worn. It is recommended that all jewellery be removed. Spurs are optional and must be blunt. Whips are not allowed during the Dressage phase but may be carried for jumping and must be no longer than 75cm.

The jumping will be marked on the Style and Performance of the horse /rider combination (not speed). Marks will be deducted for error of course in the dressage and the jumping (2). Marks will also be deducted for knock downs (5) and refusals (5). Scoring: Total marks available – 100. Finalist rosette to each competitor Competitors must wear a current standard safety/kite mark hard hat with a chinstrap. 32 RoR Retrained Racehorse Challenge Series 2021 Final – PRELIMINARY JUDGING 1 30 Judges: David Ingle and Mike Bowlby For horses who have qualified between 01.08.19 and 31.07.21 The class will be judged 50% on jumping 8 rustic/coloured fences, 20% style while jumping and performance. 30% awarded for individual show, manners and suitability to be retrained. Horses may be stripped for conformation at the Judges discretion. PHASE 1: Jumping to be judged: 8 rustic and coloured jumps maximum height of fences (95cm – 110cm with a maximum spread of 95cm) The following points to be deducted at the end of each jumping round: 10 points to be deducted for a knock down. 15 points to be deducted for a refusal. 20 points for a second refusal. Three refusals at any fence or fall: E. PHASE 2: Class returns without boots and judged for an individual show/conformation. (At the judge’s discretion, horses might be asked to do a ‘show’ following their jumping without leaving the ring) Each horse to complete an individual show of no longer than 1 minute and 30 seconds. Top ten horses from the preliminary judging will go through to the RoR AMATEUR Special 2021 (Class 42). Horses will not be placed but will be called forward in catalogue order. Special exceptions for Evening Performance only. Class 37 – Handlers/Leaders do not need to wear headgear. Classes 40 & 44 – any type of headgear is acceptable, including fascinators and Ladies hats, entirely at rider/handler’s own risk. A Disclaimer Form will be available to fill in and sign before the commencement of Class 36 for those wishing to waive recommended guidelines for headgear during the Evening Performance.

An exciting new format for 2021. The competition will be marked on the Style of the rider and how they influence the Performance of the horse. The rider’s effectiveness, position, balance, timing, rhythm & impulsion to empower the horse to jump at the best of that horse’s ability. The overall presentation of the horse rider combination in addition to their suitability to be retrained, understanding and empathy will also be a key consideration. In all ridden showing classes competitors may be asked to come out in pairs for their individual shows. All ridden showing classes to be judged in Riding Horse format unless otherwise stated. Judged on manners, way of going and individual show of no more than 1 ½ minutes to show walk, trot and canter, stand and walk off on a long rein, also adhering to each class description. All ridden show classes will enter in single file on the right rein and will demonstrate walk, trot and canter on both reins as directed by the Steward. Classes will be split if required due to numbers and space. The Judge will NOT ride, unless stated. A current standard safety hat with the chinstrap fastened must be worn at all times by anybody mounted on a horse. The Judges decision is FINAL. Riders must not have ridden any animals produced by a Professional/Trainer in the current or previous season. Important notes re routine testing and Equine Influenza (EI) and Equine Herpes Virus (EHV)

• Every horse attending this event (including travelling equine companions) must be accompanied by their own current and undeniably valid passport with up to date records of vaccinations for Equine Influenza, completed, signed and stamped on each line by a Veterinary Surgeon, who is not the owner of the horse. • Horses stabling on site - passports must be presented to the Stable Yard Manager for inspection before horses are unloaded • Equine Flu: a Health Declaration Form must be filled in and presented with the passport for inspection prior to unloading. The form will be available for download from Horse Monkey. • Horses not stabling on site – passports must be presented at the Show Office before being unloaded. • NO VALID PASSPORT – NO ACCESS AT ALL • Horses may be scanned for microchip identification. • Due to recent EI and EHV outbreaks and the evolving nature of the situation, the guidelines regarding vaccination requirements for entry to the Racecourse, the Racecourse Stables and the Equestrian Centre are being regularly updated. The current requirements for horses attending/competing are: all horses must have had an annual booster, (or if starting a new course in this period – TWO injections for PRIMARY vaccination against EI given no less than 21 days and no more than 92 days apart). For horses stabling a booster vaccination must have been administered in the 12 month period (less 6 days) prior to arriving. In all cases horses must be 6 days clear of any vaccination prior to arriving. Admittance is permitted on the 7th day. • Owners, grooms, riders and all personnel to heed any bio-security rules and recommendations in place and must take all reasonable precaution to avoid unnecessary cross-contamination.

Competitor/Visitor info Catering, Accommodation and Stabling

Accommodation – there is a limited amount of accommodation on site and this must be booked via Aintree Equestrian Centre. There are also several hotels and local B & Bs within easy reach of Aintree.

Dogs are allowed on site, but MUST be kept on a lead, are NOT allowed on the actual Racecourse Track, in the Stable Yard Complex or in Tophams! Any mess must be cleared up immediately. Failure to adhere to these rules will result in the banning of dogs at future shows. There is CCTV everywhere!!

NO SMOKING in the stable complex or in any building on site.

Camping is permitted, there will be a designated area. Small barbecues are allowed away from the stable complex and any buildings, and must not be left unattended. No charge. Showers and toilets on-site. Hook ups for electricity are available and need to be booked and paid for via Aintree Equestrian Centre.

A FARRIER will be on call on Thursday 26th and Friday 27th and will be on site on Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th **Exhibitors/riders/grooms/Owners are entirely responsible for their own Farriery and Veterinary costs and must pay at the time of treatment/attention** Contact numbers for the Vet and the Farrier will be available in the Stables Office.

COMPULSORY CHARGES for ALL COMPETITORS: FIRST AID – £4 per competitor per day COVID LEVY – £2.50 per competitor per day, due to increased charges re cleaning facilities to help us all remain safe SOUVENIR PROGRAM - £3 per competitor.

ON-SITE CATERING Tophams at the Equestrian Centre will open each day from 7am until late. There is a good choice of wholesome and healthy foods available to purchase, as well as a selection of beverages including alcoholic drinks. Tophams is a great place to eat, relax and enjoy the view over the International Indoor Arena. Aintree Racecourse is located very close to many food outlets and supermarkets.

ALL ENTRIES & BOOKINGS ONLINE ONLY. Entries will open on 8th June 2021 at 12.00 noon and will close without exception, on 1st August 2021 at 23.55pm via Horse Monkey.

REMINDER: All horses must have a current RoR COMPETITION REGISTRATION number and all numbers and qualifications will be verified prior to the Championships. Riders must be aged 15 years and over at 1st January 2021 to be able to compete. It is the responsibility of the owner and/or rider to enter the correct class/classes.

DIRECTIONS to Aintree Equestrian Centre Aintree Racecourse is located on the A59, just one mile from the M57 and M58, which link the M62 and M6. Follow the A59 to and then the Tourism signs. When you arrive at the main gates, turn right at the min roundabout to the Stables Complex, or turn left for the Equestrian Centre. By Road (SAT NAV – L9 5AS) From the South – leave M6 at J21A and join M62 West. Leave M62 at J6 to join M57, follow signs for the races. From the North, leave the M6 at J26 and join M58, follow signs for the Racecourse. From Mersey Tunnels follow signs for Preston, then for A59, then signs for the Racecourse.
