Programme Title: Second Faculty Induction Programme

Report

An month long Induction Programme (2nd) was conducted during April 5–May 4, 2018 by the Faculty Development Centre, Banasthali Vidyapith. The inaugural session began with the Deep Prajwalan by the distinguished guests and the gracious presence of Prof. Harsh Purohit (Dean, Faculty of Management Studies) and Prof. Gopinath Sharma (Eminent Educationist). It has been followed by the Welcome speech by Prof. Vandana Goswami, Dean, Faculty of Education) and Vote of Thanks by the Head of the Department of Education, and Coordinator, Faculty Development Centre, Dr. Ajay Surana. There were 43 newly inducted teaching faculties from various departments (Mathematics & Statistics, Management, Law, Education, Political Science, Sanskrit, Physical Education, Computer Science, Bioscience & Biotechnology, Chemical Engineering, Design, Home Science etc.) of colleges and universities of India and Banasthali Vidypith. In the inaugural speech Prof. Harsh Purohit emphasized on the need of the professional development of the newly inducted teachers of higher education. Prof. Gopinath Sharma (Ex-Dean, Faculty of education, Jagadguru Ramanandacharya Sanskrit University, , discussed about the ‘Introduction to Higher Education’ and detailed out the hierarchy of higher education system in India. He enlightened the participants on the various aspects of higher education from the establishment, importance and functioning of UGC, NCERT. SCERT, MHRD, NAAC etc. In the last session Dr. Ajay Surana, Program coordinator described the curricula and modalities of the one month training program. He oriented participants regarding time schedule, assignments and motivated them for active participation. Dr. Surana, enrolled all participants in virtual 'Google Classroom' platform to facilitate them through resources, announcements, assignment submission etc during the induction program. As well as introducing them the basic mobile application for teachers. In the second day of the programme, Dr. Asha Sharma, Chief Librarian began her session on ‘Introduction to Library and e-Resources’ by highlighting the significance of incorporating

technology and e-resources in the teaching, learning and research and also discussed about different e-resources available at FDC Library and worldwide. Participants also got an exposure to the central library and FDC Library and available resources and their knowledge of processing and utilization through which they can enhance their knowledge and skills. The next session began with Dr. Shesh Mishra's, Central Library facilitate the participants with hands on experiences regarding E-Resources. In which he oriented about the signification of incorporating technology and e-resources in the teaching and learning. After this the newly inducted faculties had a visit to central library of Banasthali Vidyapith. In which they got the knowledge of the processing and utilization of the library resources. The post lunch session was taken by Prof. S. B. Singh (Ex- Principal, R.I.E, NCERT, ). His title of the talk was Scientific Attitude for teaching and learning. In which he explained that there are two main aspects of Science. One is the Static part which is related to facts, Concepts, assumption, Hypothesis, theories and how while the Dynamic side of brings the discovery of truth to us. He said every science starts with a problem and this problem develop the scientific attitude in us, as science is nothing but the systematic steps taken by us to solve that problem. Every teacher should try to develop this kind of attitude in her/his students. The 3rd day was started by a session of Prof. S. B. Singh (Ex- Professor, NCERT) on the ‘Basics of Evaluation for teachers of Higher Education’, in which he discussed the need of understanding the learners and their learning style for evaluating them. He gave an talk to the participants that how they can understand the different objectives of teaching and domains of learning by using different activities. He clarified the difference between Evaluation, Assessment, Examination, Measurement, Testing etc. The session has been concluded with the understanding that Objectives of teaching and learning, teaching methods, curriculum and evaluation all are interrelated aspects. The afternoon session, was taken by Prof. B.R.Natrajan, Former Professor, Birla Institute of Technology & Science, Pilani. In his presentation on roles and responsibility of teachers, he discussed that there are variety in the types of learners on the basis of their learning, which the teacher should keep in mind the variety of these learner and should have a balance in using the teacher and learner centered approach. The teachers should focus to inculcate learning in his students to generate wisdom transformer. He said that teachers must focus on basic personality aspects i.e. motivation, attitude and aptitude etc. of the learner. The morning session on April 8, 2018, was started by Prof. Indu Bansal (Head, Department of Home Science). Her title of the presentation was “Know Yourself". In which she discussed that its order to become a good teacher, a good mother or father or to play any role of responsibility in the society, if is necessary that the person should have should knowledge of his self. She described the different kinds of self system which are independent system and intra dependent self system. She discussed the process of concertizing self after that she listed out some tips for self enhancement. She said it is why necessary to have a high level of optimization in our

thoughts for enhancing our self. Along with this she also explained what should not be done to maintain the optimistic thinking style. The presentation of the post lunch session was taken by Professor Kavita Mittal (Professor, Faculty of Education). Her title of the talk was “Micro teaching and hands on skills” In this lecture she discussed various methods of teaching or pedagogy at university level. She highlighted micro concerns like understanding psychology of students, lessons planning, innovativeness, participatory nature of delivering lectures. In the first session, on day five, Dr. Shilpi Purohit, Associate Professor, Department of Education, described the history of Higher Education, She discussed how and when various education commissions and policies were formed in order to improve the quality of higher , and to make education in the reach of every single child of the country. At last the explained the process of the establishment of Banasthali Vidyapith. The second session was taken by Prof. B.R. Natrajan, Ex-Professor, BITS Pilani. The title of his talk was the approaches of teaching and its analysis Prof. Natrajan explained the seven principles of good teaching Practices. He said a good teacher must encourage contact between himself and his student, and encourage them for active learning, task. The good teacher communications high expectation and also respect diver talents and ways of hearing. The 6th day was a weekly holiday and a assignment day.

On the 7th day of induction training program, the 1st session was taken by Dr. Ajay Surana (Program coordinator) with a discussion about the expectations of the participants and the outcome of the ‘Need assessment Performa' filled by the participants. He also discussed the importance of the feedback forms and evaluation procedure of assignments completed by the participants. Prof. Praveen Dhayani (Ex- Professor, BITS, Pilani) gave a presentation on the topic "Grading system, concept and implementation". In this lecture Prof. Dhayani explained the concept of absolute and relative types of grading system and their advantages. Prof. Dhayani laid stress on how the healthy competition can be encouraged among the student by using the absolute grading system. Along with the presentation Prof. Dhayani also provided hands on experiences to the participants. The next sessions were in workshop mode comprising Assignment on ‘Hamari Vichardhara’ i.e. a reading material on 'The Ideology of an Educational Institution' followed by individual presentation and discussion on it. These two sessions were moderated by Prof. Vandana Goswami, Dean, Faculty of Education. On the 8th day of induction training programme the first session was taken by Prof. Vinay Sharma, Dean, Faculty of Science. The topic of his talk was "Women Leadership in higher education''. He stated that the status of women's education in India is still poor and these females

who takes higher education barely goes for job and business, they said that in India contribution of women in research is significantly less. Prof. Sharma said the reason behind this not the incapability of women but various and responsibilities, security issues etc. contribution in this backdrop. He said if we want to establish ours clues as a developed country then if would not be possible without the equal participation of women in every single field. Prof. Sharma narrated the stray of Aanandibai the first women to do medicine studies from USA, and also explained how different it was for her to make this possible. The second session was taken by Dr. Usha Tiwari, Associate Professor, Physical Education her topic of the discussion was ''Yoga for self-development'', Dr. Tiwari described health requirements the stressful life of professionals and discussed various types of yoga which can help them to come out of this. She explained the basic things for the self-development programme, Acupressure and yoga asanas. Dr. Tiwari demonstrated various asanas with the help of her follow/assistant. In the first session on April 13, 2018, Dr. Vinita S. Gopalkrishnan, Associate Professor, Education talked on the title "Innovative methods of teaching". Dr. Gopalkrishnan stated that if a teacher wants to make his class interactive then he/she has to move towards the learner centered methods of teaching. She introduced number of such innovative methods viz. Role play method, Brainstorming, Problem based teaching, Teaching with humor, Educational games, Flip class and blended learning. By using these methods a teacher can not only make his/her teaching effective but can also reduce his stress. Prof. Shashi Chittora, Dean, Faculty of Education, JRN Rajasthan Vidyapith, talked on the topic, "Set Induction in Class" and opined that in order to make the class interactive and effective the teacher must be familiar with the skill of introduction the topic/content in the class. The goal of the Set Induction process of the students is to develop their curiosity towards the content to be taught in class. Dr. Sandeep Sharma, Coordinator, College of Teacher Education, Sangaria delivered his lecture on the topic "Taxonomy of Domain of Behavioral change" and opened the programe on April14, 2018.. Dr. Sharma pointed out that before going to take class a teacher must have some objectives his mind which he can achieve after the completion of his class. He said its better to define these objectives according to the taxonomy of behavioral change, as it is based on the psychological principles and focused on the cognitive, affective and psychomotor development of the learner. In the second session Dr. Dipjyoti Chakraborty, Dean, Research and Development discussed about development of any University, in respect of Teaching, Research, Citations, International outlook and industry income. He motivated participants to publish papers in good journals and introduced indexing of publications like Scopus, SCI etc in place of other journals. He also told

us to share ideas with each other so that we can improve ourselves before final submission of papers. Dr. Sandeep Sharma, Coordinator, College of Teacher Education, Sangaria also provides hands on experiences to formulate class objectives. Prof. K.D. Joshi, Head, Department of Design delivered a lecture on the topic design thinking for teaching. He explained that design thinking refers to a phenomenon of choosing the design for solving interpersonal relations. Prof. Joshi also explained the inter relationship between design and management. He said that a teacher should design his thinking and of his students to taken his class productive. He explained some tools for design thinking as the core tools and six types of thinking. He stressed the importance of parallel thinking for a teacher. On the first session of day 11th of induction training programme Professor Archana Shukla, Dept. of Psychology, Lucknow University delivered a lecture on the topic “Understanding Deliquency of Adolescence”. Prof. Shukla told that how an adolescent make the delinquent and what problems faced by adolescents in adolescence age. It was very impactful session. In the 2nd session Dr. Swati Mukherjee, Scientist ‘D’, Defence Institute of Psychological Research, DRDO, Ministry of Defence delivered the lecture on Juvenile Sexual Offenders: Current Perspectives. The 3rd session taken by Prof. Chandrani Sen, Department of Psychology, IIS University, Jaipur on Preventing Youth from “Crossing Over”. Prof. Sen told that how we can prevent our adolescents for do any crimes and she also shown the statistical data of crime by youth. This session was very useful for the working teachers to prevent the youth from crossing over and 4th session taken by Ms Anuja Trehan Kapur, Indian Criminal Psychologist, Counselor, Social Activist and Advocate on the “Case Discussion and Interaction”. She discussed some cases related to delinquency with faculty as well as students and interacts with teachers and students and told how teachers deal a delinquent child. This session was very advantageous for working teachers. On the first session of day 12th of induction training programme Mr. Om Prakash Gaur (Yoga Expert, Aum Yoga) presented on the topic 'chair yoga'. Mr. Gaur explained the importance and effectiveness yoga in our life and after that he demonstrated the various techniques of chair yoga in the chair yoga session in which all the participants participated enthusiastically. It was an impactful programme of the chair yoga session. It was a very useful session for the working professionals or teachers. In the 3rd and 4th session Dr. Sapna Sharma, Department of Education talked on the topic "Diversified assessment and its methods". She explained the complex nature of assessment and its different types. She also clarified the various projective and non projective, innovative and comprehensive methods of assessment and provided hands on experiences by various activities of projective and non-projective methods of assessment. On April 17, 2018, there was a scheduled weekly holiday cum assignment day.

On the day 14th of induction training programme a full day marathon session was on “Adoption of OER: An Innovative Intervention for Teaching- Learning” by Dr. Manas Ranjan Panigrahi, Programme Officer, Commonwealth Educational Media Centre for Asia (CEMCA). He meticulously enlighten the participants with the concept of OER (Online Educational Resources), tips to use OER, Creative Common License and its attribution , OER Platform , its creation etc. He also introduced the different online courses for teachers and students which will be beneficial for all the learning communities. He also gave a hands-on-exposure to different OER and online courses. The participants were able to qualify MOOC course on OER and obtain the certificate. The session on day 15th was a library and self study comprising Assignment on ‘Our Ideology - Hamari Vichardhara’ followed by its presentation and discussion on it. Prof. Vandana Goswami, Dean, Faculty of Education moderated the presentations and discussions from the perspective the ideology of a University. Dr. Pankaj Goyal, Central gave an exposure to the participants about the theme ‘Reference and Literature Citation- Principles & Software’ and started the session on April 20, 2018. He gave a detailed lecture on various issues relating to writing research a research paper or a thesis which consists referencing and literature citation. He with the help of established styles of referencing like MLA, Chicago, APA etc. and different Reference Management Tools or software explained the correct ways of developing referencing, bibliography with the help of software. He also discussed the significance and role of citation in making a researcher or author recognized in the world of academia.” In the 2nd and 3rd sessions Dr.Mahesh Kumar Gangal, Department of Education presented on the theme "How to Plan and Prepare an Examination Paper" with Hands-on-Experiences to participants and in 4th session participants were busy in Assignment completion and submission.

On April 21, 2018, Prof. Arbind Kumar Jha, Dean, Faculty of Education, B. R. Ambedkar Central University Lucknow enlightened the participants about the 'Reforms in Higher Education'. He raised many issues related to development of higher education in India. He also inspired participants to contribute in improvement of higher education. In the post lunch session Prof. Jha gave an insight to the participants about the ‘Constructivism in Education’ and clarify the need of pedagogical shift in this technology driven era. Prof. Abhishek Pareek, Chief Executing Officer, Atal Incubation Centre highlighted the importance of innovation and elaborated on the topic ‘Role of Higher Education Teachers in Development of Entrepreneurship’. During his session he focused on importance of Entrepreneurship for national growth by underlying the rationale and contemporary importance. He discussed the points related to entrepreneurship in general and women entrepreneurship in particular, contemporary contextual developments towards improving entrepreneurial

ecosystem. He also familiarized the participants with the Atal Incubation Centre, and its journey so far. The session has been concluded with inspiring and inviting all participants to join the productive momentum. On the day 18th day, the 1st session was taken by Prof. Arbind Kumar Jha, Dean, Faculty of Education, B. R. Ambedkar Central University, Lucknow, who continued his session on ‘Constructivism in Education’. He involved participants with subject area based examples for constructivist pedagogy. In the 2nd and 3rd session, Prof. Kamla Vashisth, Director, School of Education, Jaipur National University discussed about "Leadership for The Schools of New Era". She discussed about how to develop leadership skills among novice teachers’. In the 4th session Prof. Purnima Gupta, DDR College of Teacher Education, Gurugram) discussed on “Communication Skills”. Dr. Gupta discussed about the concept and importance of Effective Communication. Through various basic activities she discussed need, importance and ways of effective communication for teachers and classroom interaction. Dr. Purnima Gupta, DDR College of Teacher Education, Gurugram in her another session on day 19th of Induction Training Programme she talked about the ‘Skill of Explanation with Illustrations’ in hands-on-experience mode where she discussed the theoretical aspects related to its first and then made participants to exercise it for their respective subject teaching in class room. In another session, Professor Siddharth Shastri, Dean, Social Science presented his talk on ‘Institutional Ideology’ by throwing light on “Banasthali Vidyapith : An Unique Institution”. Professor Shastri took the audience back to the genesis of the Banasthali Vidyapith and its story of foundation, struggle and achievement of the present status in imparting fivefold education to women in India. He highlighted the essence and importance of the fivefold model of Vidyapith which includes physical, aesthetic, practical, moral and intellectual aspects of women’s life. On April 24, 2018, there was a weekly holiday cum assignment day. Dr. Meena Sirola, Associate Professor, Faculty of Education delivered a presentation on "Inclusive Approach of Teaching and Learning" in the 21st day of the programme. Her presentation included the different concept related to diversity (inclusive approach, inclusive teaching, inclusive learning, inclusive teaching-learning) its ways and benefits of applying inclusive approach for teaching and learning in higher education. The session gave the participants an insight to identify diversity and to keep positive attitude towards the challenges faced by students because of diversity.

A session was conducted by Professor Vinay Sharma, Dean, Faculty of Life Sciences. He delivered two talks on “The Nobel Prize: Background and select examples in Physiology/Medicine.” In the first part of the talk he outlined the genesis of the Nobel Prize,

background incidents which inspired Alfred Nobel to found the society for felicitating scientists, achievers of excellence in different fields like physiology, physics and peace. The sessions on “Art as a therapy” was conducted by Professor Kiran Sarna, Head, Department of Visual Arts. In her session Professor Sarna talked about the relevance of visual art, fine art, and art as a therapy for various psychological issues people encounter in day to day life. With the help of art activities involving the participants she tried to highlight the status of thinking and stress in one’s life and also the ways to reduce it. Dr. Kashyapi Awasthi from The National Centre for School Leadership (NCSL), National Institute of Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA) began her session on "Academic Leadership" with the quote “Journey from teaching to learning through learning communities” on the 22nd day of the programme. She made her session very interactive with group activity given to the participants. She meticulously discussed about the concern and challenges of teaching profession by making Venn diagram for circle of challenges and circle of concerns. The participants enthusiastically developed their own Venn diagram for circle of challenges and circle of concerns with help of chart papers, labels, clips etc. She also discussed about the academic leadership, the role and responsibilities of an academician. At the end of her session she concluded with the quote that “Teaching is the way of Learning” and in this way she defined the concept of Academic Leadership. On the 23rd day of induction training programme Prof. Sandhya Gihar, Dean, Education, Indira Gandhi National Tribal University, Amarkantak discussed on “Planning for a Lesson”. She discussed how to make a lesson plan and she told that lesson plan a pre-active stage for teaching. With the help of lesson plan novice teachers make their teaching effectively. Prof. Sandhya discussed about "Using Boards in Classroom: When, Why & How" and also provide Hands-on- experiences to participants. This session was very worthwhile for novice teachers’. Prof. Amita Pandey Bhardwaj, Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri Rastriya Sanskrit Vidyapith, New Delhi began her session on "Collaborative Learning" on the 22nd day of the programme. She discussed that Collaborative learning is an educational methodology to teaching learning process that includes groups of students working together to solve a problem, complete a task, or create a product. She made her session very interactive with group activity given to the participants. Prof. Bhardwaj discussed "Concept Mapping" in another session and she spelt out that concept mapping is a type of graphic organizer used to help students organize and signify knowledge of a subject. This session was very useful for new trainee teachers’ to know about collaborative learning and concept mapping (Hands on) for their teaching. On April 29, 2018, Prof. B.P. Bhardwaj, Department of Teacher Education, National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) delivered a talk on "Innovation & Experimentation". He explained new techniques and need of experiment for effective teaching.

In another session, Prof. Manoj Saxena, Dean, Faculty of Education, Central University, Himachal Pradesh thoroughly discussed on Major and Minor Research Projects. Participants passionately enquired about various funding sources and the research project proposals. Professor Saxena, provided them different proposal formats from funding agencies. On the day 26th 1st and 2nd session conducted by Prof. Satyendra Gupta, Galgotia University on "Skill of Probing and Questioning in Classroom". In this session he discussed that skill of probing will help to newly inducted teachers involve students in their classroom discussions. An effective probing skill helps to arrive on a conclusion with help of students. And questioning methodology will make teaching effective due to interactive way of the teaching learning process. He explained about the types of questions can be asked in the class and the way a teacher should ask the questions. In 3rd session Dr. Vibha Pareek, Chief Warden talked about "Campus Environment and Teacher-Student Relationship". She told that a teacher must contribute to encourage healthy campus environment and professional student- teacher relationship. She explained the boundaries and concerns of campus interpersonal relationship. She discussed about many consequences of avoiding the campus ethos. In last session of this day, Prof. Aditya Shastri, Vice-Chancellor scrupulously discussed on "Vision of a University" in his presentation, he provided four examples of the foreign universities and provide thought provoking ideas to the participants about vision of a university and also the roll of teacher's. The day 28th of Induction Training Programme, began with session of Dr. Aarti Srivastava, Department of Higher & Professional Education, National Institute of Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA). She gave details about "Challenges of Higher Education" in her presentation. She told that Institutions of higher education face a seemingly never-ending barrage of challenges. Dr. Srivastava took a question answer session about Challenges of Higher Education and discussed solutions of these challenges. In 4th session delivered by Dr. Anshu Srivastava, University of Delhi about "Hyphenating Disciplines in Higher Education: Science, Rationality and Feminist Research". She discussed various approaches to development of knowledge through research and their concerns regarding disciplines, feminism and many more issues. Dr. Srivastava delivered a presentation on "Higher Education and Extension Activities". She explained need of extension activities for higher education fraternity which is useful for novice teachers on May 3, 2018. She discussed so many extension activities through "A Case Study of Indraprastha College, Delhi" by making real experiences live to explain Extension Activities in Higher Education:. On 29th day of induction training programme, Dr. Jyoti Kumari gave an exposure to the participants about the "Ethnography of Rural Rajasthan" with an excursion tour of ethnic Chokhi

Dhani, where participants were able to explore various dimensions of life in rural Rajasthan including culture and food. In the last day of the 2nd 'Induction Training Program' of Faculty Development Centre, Banasthali Vidyapith Dr. Ajay Surana, Program Coordinator, took a special session for summing up the accounts of all announcements, assignments, facilitating the participants all the resources and to get the feedback. To mark the end of the one month long induction training programme, the valedictory function organized. Prof. D. Kishore, Officiating Secreatry and Dean Administration, Banasthali Vidyapith talked about "Conflicts and Resolutions of Higher Education" by quoting many events in his long journey of higher education. Professor Vandana Goswami, Dean, faculty of Education and many other senior faculty members were present on the occasion. Dr. Jyoti Kumari, Co-coordinator of the program presented the report of the program. Participant expressed their views including appreciation and few suggestions. The participants felicitated with certificate of appreciation.
