En atención a esta petición, se estimó oportuna la elaboración de un análisis y diagnóstico sobre la situación actual del territorio de la Costa del Sol Occidental, teniendo este documento carácter preparatorio para una futura Iniciativa de Innovación Económica. El ámbito territorial del análisis abarca los municipios de Benahavís, Benalmádena, Casares, Estepona, Fuengirola, Istán, Manilva, Marbella, Mijas, Ojén y Torremolinos. La metodología aplicada se ha basado en el análisis del capital territorial de la Costa del Sol Occidental desagregado en los componentes de este concepto: capital natural, capital físico construido, capital humano, capital social y capital de imagen, complementado con un proceso participativo. El propósito de las acciones de participación ha sido integrar la percepción de los actores económicos, sociales e institucionales presentes en la Costa del Sol Occidental y enriquecer así el análisis-diagnóstico y, por tanto, la orientación de las propuestas.
