Alternative Varieties Tasting

The four most widely planted grape varieties in Australia are Shiraz, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, and between them, they account for almost 70% of the total area under vine. In the last 20 years, there has been a steady growth in plantings of other, less Northern Territory well-known varieties, particularly those from Italy, Spain and Portugal. Queensland The revolution has been led by the vine importers such as Chalmers, pioneering the experimentation and trying new varieties across all the Western Australia regions of Australia. The result is a wide range of premium wines from grapes such as Barbera, Fiano, Vermentino, Tempranillo and Sangiovese, 28 South Eastern proving that these varieties are well suited to the Australian climate.
