Washburn University (WU) in Topeka, , and KTWU Public Television announce an exciting career opportunity for a successful fund-raiser/marketing specialist. WU Human Resources seeks candidates for the Assistant Director of Development/Membership position at KTWU. Part of a cohesive team of fundraising, membership and underwriting professionals, the employee reports to the Director of Development/Education Systems.

RESPONSIBILITIES Solicit new and current “Friends of KTWU” membership contributions utilizing a combination of activities and techniques such as assisting with on-air Pledge Drives, acquisition mailings to prospective members, telemarketing and on-line fundraising to , maintain and increase financial support for KTWU programming.

Process credit cards from KTWU members or buyers for membership, auction, special events or other projects associated with KTWU membership funds. Work with the Production Department to coordinate the sale of KTWU DVDs through the Web Store.

Prepare deposits for Foundation and Washburn University Accounting/Business Office according to Foundation and University guidelines.

Work with donors and outside sources to update and maintain mailing lists on a regular basis to ensure accuracy of addresses and maximize distribution of information through U.S. mail.

Research laws and regulations to remain apprised of IRS requirements for substantiating taxable deductions for charitable contributions.

Train and assist other KTWU staff in the use of membership software to facilitate establishment and maintenance of membership records. Work with the software company to address and resolve issues that develop with software use and to gain a greater understanding of the software’s utility.

Direct and supervise Senior Administrative Assistant, work study students and volunteers in preparing special mailings related to programming. Answer phone calls and emails from members with questions/needs about programming, membership, membership benefits, etc., to provide information, address and resolve problems and nurture relationships with members.

Select gifts and memorabilia to be offered as membership premiums, placing orders with vendors, maintaining premium inventories and submitting invoices for payment to ensure availability of premium items during membership drives.

In collaboration with the Director of Development/Educational Services, set goals for membership revenues that realistically support the station’s annual operating budget.

Supervise the Senior Administrative Assistant, student employees and volunteers assigned to membership, offering training, direction and support to ensure the successful performance of each individual. Assess performance, complete performance reviews and conduct feedback sessions as appropriate to support successful performance and address below-standard performance.

Assist and support other departments and staff as needed such as during special events or unavailability of other staff to ensure the station’s success in all endeavors.

Perform other duties as assigned or needed in support of the department and KTWU.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: Bachelor’s degree. Demonstrated communication skills and success in fundraising. Understanding of marketing principles and practices. Ability to move and/or maneuver packages and materials weighing as much as 30 pounds. Current Kansas driver’s license with a driving record that meets University standards, or ability to obtain Kansas licensure upon hire. PREFERRED: Demonstrated skills in customer service, creativity and empathy. Skills in accounting and computer use.
