Scenes with naked women in elephant masks, Shirley Temple, Glover being lowered deus-ex-machina style into a Maxfield Parrish scene...It's like Fellini on psychedelics -- wildly creative but completely twisted. Jane Ganahl San Francisco Examiner ... Possibly the most bizarre, uncompromising movie ever made by a major Hollywood name. Gilbert Garcia Phoenix NewTimes ... ... America's Best Psychotic energy. Richard Lacayo Time Magazine ... Crispin Glover is, after all, a cult hero. Jane Ganahl San Francisco Examiner ... What Is It? is an outre, bewildering, unnerving, surreal, blackly comic film. PRESS RELEASE about Crispin Hellion Glover’s Books and Big Slide Show

Mr. Glover's books are fine hard-bound editions profusely illustrated for the reader's assistance and perusal. Mr. Glover publishes his books through his company called Volcanic Eruptions (310- 391 4154) P.O. Box 25220 Los Angeles California 90025. His web site is www.CrispinGlover.com. Mr. Glover describes his books thus: 'Rat Catching is a study in the art of Rat Catching, plus something extra.' And, 'What it is, and how it is done, is a Man's life in revererse as disclosed in three parts, elderly, middle age, and youth.' And lastly, ' Oak Mot wherein all action takes place on the virgin American Prairie around the year 1868, save for the end which takes place in the Deutchland in the year 1926. Oak Mot is a tale of epic proportions involving pride and prejudice.' REVUE: Shock Cinema Magazine says " Multimedia Auter Crispin Glover took a break from his astonishing film and recording careers to publish this labor of love. And it must have taken him years to accomplish this dark and delicate task. Bound with a sumptuous hard cover, this limited edition is a reproduction of one of Crispin's unique hobbies: Recreating old books. In this particular case, taking an 18960's book, entitled Oak Mot, and meticulously reworking the fabric of the narrative, incorporating doctored photos, his own inserted phrase, replacing entire sections, plus filling every page with twisted pen and ink noodling. And it emerges as a "Story of epic proportions involving pride and prejudice" ( Or so we're told by the good Reverend), following wheel chair bound Adry, his twin sister Prosy, and their Uncle Bob. On one level it's a gothic vision of childhood pain and pleasure-- but a more disjointed, labyrinthine tale you'll be hard pressed to find, as the whisp of a story leaps across chasms of illustrations, and often takes on a flavor akin to Burroughs cut up technique ---- though Crispin's direction is less off - handedly random, more meticulously disconnected ( Yeah, that makes sense, doesn't it?). Best of all, Glover achieves some hideously beautiful images, juxtaposed with the kitsch phrasing of the original text... Oh yeah, by the end, the entire thing somehow arrives in 1926 Deuthcland. I won't pretend to understand the thing, I know what I like. And this is IT.--- Steve Puchalski

Between 1983 and 1989 - reworked 20 books from the 1800's in to new books utilizing some of the original words , and illustrations , and then adding original words and illustrations . Started Volcanic Eruptions Publishing Company in 1988 for publishing it's first book - Rat Catching. Mr. Glover has made slides of eight of his books which have been and have not been published. He presents a live dramatic narration of the books along with the images projected. This way all the audience can see and hear the images and text of these books. Titles of some of the books are; Rat Catching, Concrete Inspection, Oak Mot, Round My House, The Backward Swing, What It Is And How It Is Done, A Son Of Mother, The Happy Journey, and A New World.
