Rifftrax LIVE: House on Haunted Hill at 8:00 P.M THE STARS OF MYSTERY SCIENCE THEATER 3000 GIVE THE VINCENT PRICE CLASSIC HOUSE ON HAUNTED HILL THE RIFFTRAX TREATMENT ON THE BIG SCREEN THIS HALLOWEEN NCM Fathom and RiffTrax Team Up Again to Present a One-Night, LIVE Halloween Treat in Nearly 500 Movie Theaters Nationwide on October 28 Centennial, Colo. – October 5, 2010 – Fans are in for a frighteningly hilarious Halloween evening in movie theaters on Thursday, October 28 when NCM Fathom and RiffTrax team up again, in association with CHUD.com, to present RiffTrax LIVE: House on Haunted Hill at 8:00 p.m. Eastern / 7:00 p.m. Central / 6:00 p.m. Mountain / 8:00 p.m. Pacific (tape delayed). The comedic masterminds behind the hit show Mystery Science Theater 3000 (MST3K) – Michael J. Nelson, Kevin Murphy, and Bill Corbett – will unleash their twisted sense of humor during this LIVE one-night Fathom event taking aim at the outdated effects, melodramatic acting and the inherent ghoulishness of the legendary Vincent Price in the 1959 cult classic House on Haunted Hill. Tickets are available at participating theater box offices and online at www.FathomEvents.com. For a complete list of theater locations and prices, please visit the website (theaters and participants are subject to change). Broadcast live from The Belcourt Theatre in Nashville, Tenn., RiffTrax LIVE: House on Haunted Hill will also feature comedian Paul F. Tompkins who will riff an exclusive, never- before-seen short. Audience members will receive a few ‗treats‘ at this Halloween Fathom event, including a free downloadable short, autographed digital photo of the guys and a free song by the RiffTones. A URL and code will be revealed at the end of the event to download these ―digital goodies.‖ House on Haunted Hill tells the tale of an eccentric millionaire, played by the famous face of horror Vincent Price, who invites five guests to spend the night at his mansion on Haunted Hill for a "haunted house" party. He informs the guests that whoever manages to survive the night will be awarded $10,000 each. However, as the night progresses, all the guests are trapped inside the house with ghosts, murderers and other terrors. In the hours that follow, the guests face an evening of mystery, intrigue, unimaginable terrors and murder. "House on Haunted Hill has Vincent Price at his Vincent Price-iest and is a really fun movie—but just dumb enough to be perfect for our jokes," said Michael J. Nelson, RiffTrax creator and former host of the Emmy-nominated, Peabody Award-winning Mystery Science Theater 3000. Despite its low budget, House on Haunted Hill did well at the box office for its day, inspiring Alfred Hitchcock to create his own horror masterpiece, Psycho. ―Halloween is a treat for fans of all ages and what better way to kick off the celebration than by poking a little fun at one of the most memorable cult horror classics of all time,‖ said Dan Diamond, vice president of NCM Fathom. ―Team Vincent Price up with the RiffTrax gang and RiffTrax LIVE: House on Haunted Hill promises to be the ultimate scream.‖ RiffTrax LIVE: House on Haunted Hill will be shown in 487 select movie theaters including AMC Entertainment Inc., Celebration! Cinema, Cinemark Holdings, Inc., Clearview Cinemas, Cobb Theatres, Georgia Theatre Company, Goodrich Quality Theatres, Hollywood Theaters, Kerasotes Showplace Theatres, Marcus Theatres, National Amusements, Rave Motion Pictures, R/C Theatres and Regal Entertainment Group movie theaters, as well as Arlington Theatre (Santa Barbara, CA), The Carolina (Asheville, NC) and the Palace Cinema 9 (South Burlington, VT), through NCM‘s exclusive Digital Broadcast Network. MST3K spent a total of 11 seasons on Comedy Central and the Sci Fi Channel in the late 1980s through 1999. The series featured a man and his robot sidekicks trapped in space by an evil scientist and forced to watch terrible science fiction B-movies. In each episode, the three make fun of each film, providing hilarious commentary or "riffing.‖ After the show‘s run ended, Nelson created RiffTrax in 2006 to continue the ―riffing‖ on blockbuster films such as Star Wars: Episode I and Star Trek. RiffTrax are downloadable online and can be played along with the film, providing a unique and amusing commentary throughout the course of the movie. The RiffTrax team made their big screen debut in August of 2009 with RiffTrax Live: Plan 9 from Outer Space, returned in December with RiffTrax LIVE: Christmas Shorts-Stravaganza!, and most recently took on a cult classic with RiffTrax LIVE: Reefer Madness in August. It surveys the career of its director, William Castle, a legendary Hollywood huckster famous for his use of gimmicks to attract audiences to his low- budget horror films. Our particular focus is Percepto!, the simple but effective gimmick created for The Tingler to deliver physical “shocks” to viewers. The operation, deployment and promotion of Percepto! are explored in detail, based on recently-discovered documents provided to exhibitors by Columbia Pictures, the film’s distributor. We conclude with a proposal for a method of recreating Percepto! for contemporary audiences using Web technologies and smartphones. i Contents Abstract .......................................................................................................................................... i Contents ........................................................................................................................................ ii 1. • Dear Cinematic Titan
4/26/2017 Dear Cinematic Titanic ****** CINEMATIC TITANIC. Dear Joel, Josh, Trace, Mary Jo, Frank, and Anson Williams: This is an open invitation to come riff with us. Any, or all of you; whenever mutually convenient. There will be snacks. One of you has already done so. She even rejoined your august group for more of your own work, none worse for the wear. (We hope… But please do check with her.) We tried to get a game going already, but to be fair… you needed to launch before doing anything else. And that you did, with great fanfare and success. Bravo, sirs. And lady. Now that you’re very much afloat — we’d like you all to know, on the record*, that our door** is open. Come and play. We’re not going away anytime soon, and neither are you. Shooting one of your episodes takes longer, with its visual component, we understand. But when your schedule lightens up, and you’re between shoots, come do a Rifftrax with us in the meantime. Any of you — even Mary Jo. (Really MJ, we’ll have an actual chair for you this time.) Lots of movies out there, lots of riffer combinations possible, and many schedulefriendly shorts still beg for riffing. We could even do a flash animation of some sort. It boggles the mind! To repeat: there will be snacks. Of fairly decent quality. Not amazing, but really… fairly decent, all in all. Life is too short to pretend that our fellow MST3K alums don’t exist. That might be awkward anyway, if we run into each other at some big event wearing the same outfit.

The average consumer can easily create and edit videos, and post them online. Inevitably many of these posted videos incorporate existing copyrighted content, raising questions of infringement, derivative versus transformative use, fair use, and parody. This article looks at several such works, with its main focus on one category of examples: the Downfall Hitler meme.

THAT STATEMENT CONNECTS the modern Steam Punk Movement, The Jetsons, Metropolis, Disney's Tomorrowland, and the other items that we are celebrating this weekend. Some of those past futures were unpleasant: the Days of Future Past of the X-Men are a shadow of a future that the adult Kate Pryde wanted to avoid when she went back to the present day of the early 1980s. Others set goals and dreams; the original Star Trek gave us the dreams and goals of a bright and shiny future t h a t h a v e i n s p i r e d generations of scientists and engineers. Robert Heinlein took us to the Past through Tomorrow in his Future History series, and Asimov's Foundation built planet-wide cities and we collect these elements of the past for the future. We love the fashion of the Steampunk movement; and every year someone is still asking for their long-promised jet pack. We take the ancient myths of the past and reinterpret them for the present and the future, both proving and making them still relevant today. Science Fiction and Fantasy fandom is both nostalgic and forward-looking, and the whole contradictory nature is in this year's theme. Many of the years that previous generations of writers looked forward to happened years ago; 1984, 1999, 2001, even 2010. The assumptions of those time periods are perhaps out-of-date; technology and society have passed those stories by, but there are elements that still speak to us today. It is said that the Golden Age of Science Fiction is when you are 13.
