OUR YIH FAMILY….

Welcome New Members: Chaim & Esti Bar-Eli, Matthew & Janice Kandel, Moshe & Rivka Genet, Sunday, September 9, Erev Daniel & Nicole Raz 7:13pm Light Yom Tov Candles

7:15pm Minchah at the Shul only, Open Seating Main Sanctuary Dvar Tefila An insight from the Machzor to help enhance our prayer experience Monday, September 10, First Day Rosh Hashanah “All of humanity passes before You, like bnei marom” (Birnbaum Machzor pg 361) 6:25am V’sikin Minyan House The (Rosh Hashanah 18a) offers three interpretations for Bnei Marom: “What is the meaning of the expression ‘like Bnei Maron’? — In Babylon it was translated, 8:00am Shacharit Main Sanctuary ‘like a flock of sheep’. Resh Lakish said: As [in] the ascent of Beth Maron. (A narrow pass where wayfarers had to proceed in single file). Rab Judah said in the name of Samuel: Like 8:00am Shacharit Club the troops of the house of David.” Sheep, steps and soldiers. On a literal level all three explanations point to a 8:00am Shacharit L’Chaim common theme trying to be conveyed: On Rosh Hashanah every individual is judged, one person at a time. When sheep are counted- they pass through the pen gate one at a time. To 8:00am Shacharit Sephardic Minyan Modular ascend by Beth Maron- you had to go up one at a time. When troops present themselves to be inspected by their superior, they are inspected one at a time. On one hand this idea is scary Before Services conclude and overwhelming: When it comes to judging our deeds, few of us want to be in the spotlight with God’s full attention focused on just me. On the other hand, this can be a source of 1:00pm comfort and strength. If Hashem focuses on me alone, then I must be important. I must be 5:00pm Tashlich At the home of Drs. able to develop unique talents and contributions to this world. I must be able to benefit from a Robert & Myriam Klein personal and unique relationship with God. The author of the book Avodat David suggests that these three symbols represent 7:15pm Minchah at the Shul only, Open Seating Main Sanctuary three approaches that people take towards Rosh Hashanah: Sheep: When one sheep is taken to slaughter, the rest of the flock runs away. The flock Between Rabbi Weinstock will speak on “Operation Main Sanctuary has no idea where it’s going. So too many people enter Rosh Hashanah with no plan, no direction and no preparation. Minchah Finale: Halachic Perspectives On the Steps: These steps are narrow, with sharp precipices on either side. This requires a and Maariv Eichmann Trial” person climbing the steps to be cautious, deliberate and thoughtful. This is a second approach 8:10pm Maariv at the Shul only, Open Seating Main Sanctuary to Rosh Hashanah: Be thoughtful, deliberate and plan ahead to the most out of the High Holidays season. After Light Yom Tov Candles Soldiers: know the danger yet are willing to sacrifice for a cause greater than themselves, oftentimes the king or one’s country. So too we should strive to appreciate our 8:10pm role as ambassadors for the King of Kings. Our purpose is to bring Godliness into this world through and Mitzvot. In this way, Rosh Hashanah is really not about us- it’s about God. This is what we mean when we add to our Amida throughout the (Birnbaum Machzor pg 31): “Remember us for life, King who desires life; inscribe us in the Book of Life, for your sake oh living God” Yom Tov Safety, Security Our prayer are more likely to be answered in the affirmative when we are less “Safety & Security is everyone’s responsibility. If You See Something Say Something!” selfish in our perspective and when we emphasize God as the essential purpose of life and the Safety Announcement Stirling Road at SW 33rd Avenue: Please cross Stirling reason for our requests. Road in the crosswalk after all traffic has stopped. Crossing elsewhere is dangerous An alternate approach to this phrase suggests that these three symbols are there to and illegal. Police officer controls the light on Sunday 7-11pm, Monday 7:30am- cause us to ask ourselves three key questions for this season. Sheep: What level am I currently at? 3:00pm and 7-11pm, Tuesday 7:30am-1:30pm and 7-11pm. A custodian will Stairs: What level am I at today compared to where I was?
