Background Subject to Arizona Board of Regents approval and authorization, Jack Murphy (“Coach Murphy”) has agreed to accept employment as the Head Men’s Basketball Coach for Northern Arizona University. Coach Murphy joined the coaching staff at the University of Memphis under men’s basketball coach Josh Pastner in 2009. During Coach Murphy’s tenure, Memphis earned NCAA tournament berths over the last two seasons. Prior to Memphis, Coach Murphy spent three years with the Denver Nuggets under the NBA’s active wins leader, George Karl. Coach Murphy began his career by spending eight years at his alma mater, the University of Arizona, working with legendary coach Lute Olson. In accordance with ABOR Policies 6-1001 through 6-1003, Northern Arizona University desires to enter into a Multiple-Year Employment Contract with Coach Murphy from April 17, 2012, through June 30, 2017, with an option for a two-year extension (after a 24-month review) at the discretion of the University President and Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics. Coach Murphy’s proposed annual base salary is $180,000. It is intended that Coach Murphy’s compensation will be paid from revenue generated by the Intercollegiate Athletics Department and from general revenues.
