Travelling under Level 2 – All you need to know

This is the news that we have all been waiting for! Level 2 allows us to travel anywhere within South , and more importantly to travel outside of our provinces where we live. Here is a list of that are currently open

What you need before you may enter the airport terminal

• Temperature & Visual Screening: You will need to pass these screening tests

• It is compulsory to wear a Face Mask

• You must already have a flight booking in place.

• Have your printed boarding pass or digital boarding pass displayed on your phone

• Carry a valid form of personal identification, i.e. ID book, drivers license or passport.

• Children need a birth certificate (or a certified copy not older than 3 months).

• You need 2 copies of the Health Declaration Form. You need to complete & sign this form before you travel. This is needed for each flight.

What to expect on the day of travel

Your arrival to the airport

• Passengers must use the ‘drop-&-go’ facilities or public transport as only travellers will be allowed into the airport terminal.

• Public transport will operate. Limited parkade options will be available. These will be sign posted at each airport.

• Only travellers are allowed in the airport terminal.

• All baggage handlers will wear full PPE. Baggage will be fully sanitised and must be wrapped as an additional safety measure.

• Regular deep cleaning and surface sanitisation will take place regularly throughout the airport.

• The Bathrooms at the domestic departure arrival facilities will be open and will be sanitised in accordance with the public health procedures which are approved by SACAA.

Airport entrances and access control

• Access to the terminal buildings is restricted.

- Please visit www.acsa.co.za to determine which access & terminal points are open for use.

• A number of these points have been closed at various airports.

• Physical distancing rules (1,5 meter distance) must be adhered to at the terminal entrance.

• Wearing of masks is compulsory from the time you enter the airport, throughout your flight and must remain in place until you are out of the destination airport.

• The Port Health Authority will conduct screening checks at airport entrances. Check-in process

• Travellers should check-in online before going to the airport.

• Online check-in can be done at the screens in the terminal building.

• A limited number of check-in counters will be open. Physical distancing rules (1.5 meter distance) will apply in these queues. This process will take longer.

Security checkpoint process

• Travellers will scan their printed boarding pass or electronic boarding pass at the security checkpoint.

• Travellers should remove any metal and electronic items from their person before entering the security queue. These items include; mobile devices, laptops, watches, jewellery, wallets, keys, belts, objects that include metal etc.

• These items must be placed in the tray at the security scanner.

• Travellers who trigger the metal detector will be sent back to re-divest all loose items. This may include your shoes. No pat downs will take place.

Boarding the aircraft

• Physical distancing rules (1.5 meter distance) apply for queues to board an aircraft.

• Travellers must scan their boarding pass at the boarding gate.

• Boarding will be done in a controlled manner with travellers sitting in the rear seats of the aircraft boarding first.

• Travellers with tickets for row A, for example, will board last.

• Masks must be worn for the full duration of the flight.

Disembarking from an aircraft

• Masks must be worn when disembarking and moving towards the baggage carousels.

• Physical distancing rules (1.5 meter distance) will apply at the baggage carousels.

• Crowding close to the baggage carousels will not be permitted.
