												  Biodiversidad En Campeche Reino VegetalBiodiversidad en Campeche Reino Vegetal Macroalgas INTRODUCC I ÓN Las macroalgas son organismos eucariontes multicelulares, fotoau- tótrofos, de arquitectura clonal y estrategia de crecimiento modular, marinos y asociados al sustrato (son bentónicos). Los grupos prin- cipales son las algas verdes (Chlorophyta), las pardas o café (Hete- rokontophyta) y las rojas (Rhodophyta). Constituyen junto a Cyano- bacteria y Eubacteria (Prokaria) grupos evolutivamente ancestrales en Abel Sentíes G. relación, por ejemplo, con las plantas terrestres (quienes comparten y Kurt M. Dreckmann un ancestro común con Chlorophyta). En el mismo tenor, ancestros del tipo rhodophyta, cyanobacteria y eubacteria, a lo largo de eventos endosimbióticos, dieron lugar a la actual organización eucarionte (el primer eucarionte conocido es un fósil del tipo rhodophyta encontrado en rocas de 2.1 billones de años (Brodie y Lewis, 2007). Si bien son grupos morfo-anatómicamente sencillos, las macroalgas despliegan fisiologías y comportamientos reproductivos y ecológicos altamente complejos. DI VERS I DAD El grupo de las algas, en general, puede ser categorizado de acuerdo a su tamaño, en micro y macroalgas. Aquellas que van desde menos de 10 hasta 100 micrometros son consideradas microalgas (forman parte del fitoplancton), y son el objeto de estudio de la microficología, aquellas que van desde las 100 micras (visibles porque miden más de 1 milímetro) a varias decenas de centímetros (como el caso de Macro- 198 La Biodiversidad en Campeche cystis piryfera o kelps que llega a medir más de 30) son categorizadas como macroalgas y son el objeto de estudio de la ficología marina. Al- rededor de 350 000 especies de algas han sido descritas en los últimos 200 años (Brodie y Zucarello, 2007).

Abstract An updated inventory of the Bromeliaceae for Costa Rica is presented including citations of representa- tive specimens for each species. The family comprises 18 genera and 198 species in Costa Rica, 32 spe- cies being endemic to the country. Additional 36 species are endemic to Costa Rica and Panama. Only 4 of the 8 bromeliad subfamilies occur in Costa Rica, with a strong predominance of Tillandsioideae (7 genera/150 spp.; 75.7% of all bromeliad species in Costa Rica).

RENNER 2 Systematic Botany and Mycology, University of Munich (LMU), Menzinger Str. 67 80638 Munich, Germany • Premise of the study: The most recent reviews of the reproductive biology and sexual systems of parasitic angiosperms were published 17 yr ago and reported that dioecy might be associated with parasitism. We use current knowledge on parasitic lineages and their sister groups, and data on the reproductive biology and sexual systems of Apodanthaceae, to readdress the question of possible trends in the reproductive biology of parasitic angiosperms. • Methods: Fieldwork in Zimbabwe and Iran produced data on the pollinators and sexual morph frequencies in two species of Apodanthaceae. Data on pollinators, dispersers, and sexual systems in parasites and their sister groups were compiled from the literature. • Key results: With the possible exception of some Viscaceae, most of the ca. 4500 parasitic angiosperms are animal-pollinated, and ca. 10% of parasites are dioecious, but the gain and loss of dioecy across angiosperms is too poorly known to infer a statisti- cal correlation. The studied Apodanthaceae are dioecious and pollinated by nectar- or pollen-foraging Calliphoridae and other fl ies. • Conclusions: Sister group comparisons so far do not reveal any reproductive traits that evolved (or were lost) concomitant with a parasitic life style, but the lack of wind pollination suggests that this pollen vector may be maladaptive in parasites, perhaps because of host foliage or fl owers borne close to the ground.

Abstract: The genus Zamia is morphologically and ecologically the most diverse of the order Cycadales. Throughout its history this genus has been restricted to the New World and is presently almost entirely restricted to the Neotropics. Unusual anatomical traits of the leaflets, such as the sunken stomata and thick cuticle, are common in this and related genera. The objective of this research was to study and compare the leaflet anatomy of Zamia acuminata and Z. pseudomonticola and establish possible phylogenetic relationships between the anatomical traits and the near relatives of these species. The leaf material was obtained from living plants and then processed for electron microscopy study. We found that both species are very similar to each other and to Z. fairchildiana, and that they share several unusual traits with other species of the genus, such as the parenchyma morphology, the spatial distribution of tissues between the veins and the stomata morphology. The main differ- ences between these species were seen in their fiber clusters and in the abundance of trichome basal cells on the epidermis. The anatomical similarities between the three species could be the result of their close phylogenetic relationship and the divergences between them could be the result of recent speciation during the Pleistocene, resulting from geological changes in Southern Costa Rica.
