Abousamak Advanced White Wtater Safety & Rescue John, Lynn, Steve Cassie Abousamak- Paddlesport Activity Assistant Hankin & Cara in Provider progress! 12 Forth Canoe Club Paddling in the Heart of Edinburgh Courses • We had 7 Paddle Discover Courses with a Total of 48 participants • We took 3 learners through Paddle Explore • We had 128 children and teens on our summer courses • We had 3-8 children or young people in each GP or discipline specific class 14 Forth Canoe Club Paddling in the Heart of Edinburgh Polo We have some lovely new polo goals to be put up at the boat house! So if you want to come along get in touch with Poppy as Polo training will be starting up again in April! We are planning to attend Summer competitions around the UK this year. 16 Forth Canoe Club Paddling in the Heart of Edinburgh Pool Sessions So far this Winter the Juniors have been showing the Adults how it’s down in terms of their commitment, it has been great to see how well they have done and how many of them have learnt to roll so far this Winter! It would be great to have more people at the pool sessions; though, as we only have use of the pool till the end of March so come and make the most of the nice warm pool to practice in Sundays from 5pm-7pm at Forrester HS. 17 Forth Canoe Club Paddling in the Heart of Edinburgh Safeguarding 18 Forth Canoe Club Paddling in the Heart of Edinburgh Slalom Just now we have more people racing in Slalom for the club than we have have in the past 20 years! Prem- Claire and (Michael K1 and C1) Div 1- Yesi and Max Div 2- Hania and Matthew Div 3-Poppy, Ailsa, Kirsten, Max (C1), Matthew (C1) A big well done to everyone in Div 3 as they all started 2019 in Div 4. **Our Slalom sessions are starting up on the canal in a few weeks time, so lets hope the weather is kind** 19 Forth Canoe Club Paddling in the Heart of Edinburgh Slalom Grandtully Slalom was a success again this year with nearly 200 participants and approximately 30 volunteers. Please volunteer to help with our race at Grandtully the weekend of the 29th/30th of August 2020! It is great fun, with jobs for all sorts. We need everyone to make this event run.     £6 2018 Canoe Sprint & Marathon Handbook NEW for 2018 - Racing Coach Award At the start of 2014, the British Canoeing Coaching Strategy Group initiated a review of our qualifications. This resulted in proposals to revise the structure, with a phased approach to the development (and implementation) of the various components. The first phase focused on the Club Activity Assistant, piloted at the start of 2016. This was followed by developments within the Leadership strand, including a new Paddlesport Leader Award, rebranding of the 4 and 5 Star awards, and the introduction of a Guide scheme; all launched April 2017. This next phase focuses on the development of the qualifications previously pitched at UKCC Level 2. The development is, in the main, focused on a restructuring and creating discipline specific pathways available across all disciplines. This will significantly change the prerequisites and the pathway through taught and assessed elements. Direct entry to the Racing Coach Award, removal of the portfolio and specific deliverers. The ‘Coach Awards’ will supersede the current Level 2, Moderate/Advanced Water Endorsements, and Discipline Support Modules. The qualifications are designed for people whose core function is to coach paddlers who want to gain/improve paddlesport skills within the discipline chosen. This will include coaching beginners new to the sport, or paddlers looking to develop their skills in the given discipline/environment.     Whitewater bulletin Issue No 5 - dated 17 October 89 -------------------------------- Editor : Dave Kay, 19 Brierley Green, Buxworth, Stockport SK12 7NL After four years of stable team management (and seven for the Youths), the sport seems faced with a crisis. After the resignation this summer of Nig Morley (Senior Team Manager), Phil Dean (Youth Team Manager), Alastair Bayliss (Youth Coach), Denis Cooper (Senior C2 Coach) & Dave Kay (Senior Men• s Kl Coach) - all after completing lengthy tours of duty - the remaining coaches (John Handyside & Dave Williams) decided to stand down to allow clean development of a new mangement team. The problem is (unless resolved over the past few days) who is willing to take on the commitment? It would be sad to find that the WWR Coaching scheme with a not insignificant number of accredited coaches & trainers could not provide any suitable candidates - even offers - in this hour of need. Nevertheless one must understand the reticence of the average club coach who may have little or no international, athletic or wild water experience. Should we be encouraging such people to take the plunge unprepared at top international level? I think not. Alternatively should team management remain the preserve of ex• internationals who have probably quit competition because of time constraints? Whatever the solution this time, it must be the priority of the WWR coaching scheme to involve its members on GB Team trips - under expert guidance BEFORE they are required to take responsibility. That means starting in 1990! It may cost a few quid to take extras but this year's helpers - correctly chosen - could produce some of next year's management.
