Collaborations and projects

Jan 2017 – Ongoing. Merched Chwarel Collaborative exhibitionand socially engaged project exploring women and quarrying with Marged Pendrell, Lindsey Colbourne, and Jwls Williams, curated by Jill Piercy. The Merched Chwarel exhibition will run from April – September 2019 in Storiel Bangor and involves both 2D and 3D work, mapping, walking, heritage research, community involvement and cooperation from Gwynedd Council, The National Trust, Welsh Slate and other local business and community groups. www.merchedchwarel.org

November 2018 – Pages of the Sea. Colwyn Bay. 14-18 NOW Working as part of a team to create a sand portrait of the poet Hedd Wyn and also working with the public to make silhouettes with stencils onto the beach. Part of the UK wide Pages of the Sea event, to mark the Centenary of Armistace Day.

September 2018 – Grrls in the Garej, Llawn 2018. Collaborative, socially engaged installation/performance with Lindsey Colbourne and Wanda Zyborska consisting of two days working with the public, collecting stories and making monuments of women in Llandudno.

March 24th 2018 – Llif Labordy Mon and Marble Laboratory, M-Sparc, Gaerwen, Ynys Mon A collaborative event consisting of sculpture, video and a workshop for children of all ages, based on the study of flow patterns on and around Anglesey. With artists Lindsey Colbourne and scientist, Dr Jonathan Malarkey.

March 10th, 2018 – “I’m Getting Too Old for This” International Women’s Day, Ty Glyndwr, Caernarfonm Wales. Performance concerning the expectations placed on women in work. Performing as Xsexcentenary, working with Wanda Zyborska.

August 2017 –Llif@Troelli, Lle Celf, National Eisteddfod Wales Collaborative, interdisciplinary project with artist Lindsey Colbourne, scientist Dr Jonathan Malarkey, poet Rhys Trimble and musicians Katherine Betteridge and Sioned Eleri Roberts, consisting of site specific sculptural installation, video and live performance.

June 10, 2017 – The Disappearing L, Stiwdio Maelor, , Wales Collaborative performance as a member of Xsexcentenary (Wales) dealing with the invisibility of older women. With Wanda Zyborska, Lindsey Colbourne, and Antonia Dewhurst.

Oct 2016 – Atgofion Ogwen, Community based project collecting and mapping living memory of the Ogwen Valley. Working in collaboration with artist Christine Roberts, Gwyl Afon Ogwen River Festival and Darganfod , a youth group coordinated by North Wales Police Community Support, resulting in a growing facebook community that has reached over 2000 members

April – July 2016. Pontio Synthesis, Pontio Arts and Innovation Centre, Bangor An interdisciplinary art and science research and development collaboration, culminating in a public showcase event, using both inside and outdoor spaces and attracting over 500 visitors. With artist Lindsey Colbourne, scientist Dr Jonathan Malarkey, poet Rhys Trimble, and musicians Katherine Betteridge, Sioned Eleri Roberts and David Hopwell.

July – October 2015 “A Crash Course in Constructal Law/Cwrs Carlam Mewn Cyfraith Constructal” Sculptural, interactive collaboration investigating constructal theory, based in woodland, with Lindsey Colbourne for Gwyl Afon Ogwen River Festival.

Selected Curation/Project work.

2010 – Present Gwyl Afon Ogwen River Festival Duties include curating and organizing a weekend of art events, including community projects, family activities and an outdoor sculpture exhibition in the woodland of Bethesda. Past events have included sculpture, live art, theatre, participatory and interdisciplinary performance and immersive theatre. Other duties were chairing meetings, communicating with artists and organisers, arranging the logistics of installing and taking down work, booking family activities and workshops, and managing online publicity.

2011 – Present TOGYG. As a founder member of the TOGYG group of artists, my roles have been initially as group Secretary 2011 to 2016, and as group Treasurer 2018 to present. My duties have been to arrange meetings, apply for funding, manage emails and be the group contact for the public access to Bangor Print Studio. As secretary I also took and circulated minutes, managed the social media and online presence of the group, and coordinated events, open days and visiting artists and such as Jelili Atiku, Nigeria 2012, Annea Lockwoode, USA 2013, Adelina Poplodeneva, Bulgaria 2015. As Treasurer, my duties include banking, ensuring payments are made and received, and bringing financial reports to meetings.

2009 – 2011 Bangor Greadigol. As a founder member, curator and secretary of Bangor Greadigol, my duties included arranging meetings, taking minutes and liaising with artists and local businesses to curate and hang 9 shows, featuring the work of 22 local artists, in a disused shop in Bangor City centre, and participating in local events such as Bangor Community Carnival and Bangor Christmas Fair.

Facilitation and Teaching.

December 2018 – present. Freelance Tutor, Mind Gwynedd a Ynys Mon. Themed project work guiding participants of all ages and ability through the creative process.

Febuary 2018 Life Drawing Tutor, Bangor University, Bangor Wales. 3 x 3 hours life drawing sessions for students ranging from Certificate of Fine Art level, to BAHons level.

2nd November 2017 – 21st Febuary 2018 Four Quartets project, Gwynedd and Mon Mind A 12 week course of workshops facilitating and leading students of mixed abilities and mental well-being, in creating a multi media sculptural installation on the theme “Daydream Nation” to be exhibited in June 2018 in Y Canolfan Ucheldre, Holyhead.

3 October 2015 Giant Marble Run for the over 6's. Bangor Arts Initiative. A drop-in activity in the Bangor Arts Initiative Community Gallery, leading a group aged 7 to adult in using found objects and the gallery itself to create a giant, continuous marble track.

July – October 2012 “Blodeuwedd” Gwyl Afon Ogwen River Festival. In association with the local youth clubs and summer holiday club, Blodeuwedd consisted of a series of collaborative interdisciplinary workshops involving music, movement, storytelling and visual art, delivered by a team of proffessionals. The project culminated in two performances, by children aged 4 and up, of the story of Blodeuwedd, from the Mabinogion. The performances involved music, dance, storytelling, costumes and props. My duties involved coordinating the workshops and performances as well as leading participants in prop making activities.

Residencies

October2012 – March 2013. Hidden Worlds, Hidden Artists. A 6 months drawing residency in the School of Biological Sciences University of Wales, Bangor. Creating sculpture and drawings inspired by the Natural History Library of Bangor University and exhibiting as part of Science Week.

September – October 2008. ICAW International Crosscurrents, Biennale 10 days residency in Harlech, creating sculptural and paper based work relating to my walks in the area, as part of a group exhibition with other participating, international artists.
