WELCOME

It is my pleasure to welcome you to , a true stronghold of slalom! On 26 and 27 July 2013, the Augsburger Kajak-Verein e.V. will be staging the international ECA Junior Cup on the Eiskanal, the same course that will host the 2014 German Championships in the youth/junior and performance classes a week earlier, and that will be home to the ICF Slalom World Cup finals in August. As President of the German Federation (DKV), I would like to extend a warm welcome, both personally and on behalf of the Board, to all the participants, all the trainers and officials, and hopefully to many, many spectators.

Following on from the Vajda Teen- and Junior Cups, the ECA Junior Cup has for many years been part of the German Canoeing Federation’s competition programme. With junior teams from more than 15 countries taking part again this year, our young athletes aged between 12 and 18 will be able to measure their skills against international competition. For our young German canoers, this Cup marks a further highlight of the canoeing season on home water here in , in addition to our national championships. The event will also showcase Augsburg as a canoeing location, increasing the appeal of our sport and the Eiskanal course. The Eiskanal – the “mother of all artificial courses” – will also pose a particular challenge for the young athletes.

I would like to thank the Board and the many volunteers, and also the officials of the City of Augsburg and the sponsors, whose support makes this event possible.

I hope this year’s ECA Junior Cup goes smoothly, with good water and weather conditions, and that all of the participants are able to give their best, showing our sport in general and canoe slalom in particular in the best possible light.

GERMAN CANOEING FEDERATION

Yours

Thomas Konietzko

President

Greetings

A cordially Welcome to the Fugger City of Augsburg for the ECA Junior Cup, which will take place from 26th – 27th July 2014 on the “Eiskanal”, which is more or less the most famous Olympic wildwater complex.

This event is of enormous importance for our young athletes as they can breath “international air” under conditions of competition for the first time and make their first experience in an international field. Already in the last years, participants in Olympic Games have been borne on this wildwater parcours, for instance , or Sideris Tasiadis. Today, this is the same situation again and thus, this slalom competition will be an absolutely high-end-event.

The organization of this event has been taken over by the proven team of the Augsburger Kajakverein (AKV) leaded by Fam. Scheppach, having a rich body of experience in regards of such events. I am convinced that they will provide a performance for the young slalom canoeists, which all will best treasure even after years. After all, we can expect the participation of a lot of young athletes, whose names we probably we will often hear in the future.

The executive committee of the Bavarian Canoe Federation is looking forward to this canoe event and to fascinating competitions. I’d like to thank all voluntary assistants of the organizer, all sponsors and of course the City of Augsburg, as without its support this event could not be performed. For the ECA Junior Cup 2014 in Augsburg, I wish all athletes and officials an accident free and sportive fair progress.

Bavarian Canoe Federation The President

Oliver Bungers

Welcome to the ECA Junior Cup 2014 at the Eiskanal

As Mayor of the City of Augsburg, I am delighted that the German Championships in the youth and junior sections and in the German performance class, as well as the ECA Junior Cup 2014, are taking place here at the Eiskanal under our patronage. I always take pleasure in seeing canoeists from all over Germany and Europe come to Augsburg to put their sporting skills to the test here on the Eiskanal. I would like to extend a warm welcome to all of the athletes, the trainers and helpers, and of course all the enthusiastic spectators.

Augsburg’s Eiskanal hosted the canoeing events of the 1972 Olympic Games, and since then has enjoyed an excellent reputation as a stronghold of canoeing and as a venue for national and international competitions. My thanks go to the Augsburger Kajak Verein and all its many helpers. Thanks to the preparations and efforts of this experienced and dedicated team, they will once again prove to be excellent hosts. Sincere thanks must also go to the numerous sponsors, without whom it would be impossible to stage such a major event.

Sport can be something truly wonderful. But we should never forget that for those taking part, it is a contest, an opportunity to measure their abilities and skills. As the host city, Augsburg looks forward to being home to exciting competitions and excited fans. I wish all of the canoeists a lot of fun and every success!

Dr. Kurt Gribl Mayor of the City of Augsburg

Welcome

Dear canoeing fans Dear sportswomen and sportsmen

Augsburg as a sporting location has a long-standing tradition of hosting top-class canoe slalom events, both national and international. We are very proud of this, and are forever grateful that our local clubs – in this instance the Augsburger Kajak Verein AKV– volunteer and give their utmost to make it possible to stage these competitions in our city.

I am delighted that the City of Augsburg has been chosen as one of the five venues for the International ECA - Junior Cup from 25 to 27 July 2014. These European competitions offer an ideal platform for preparing for future events at a world class level. I would therefore like to wish every success to all those taking part, but also that they can gather as much experience as possible to spur them on for future competitions. My particular thanks here go to all those helping make it possible to hold this event in Augsburg.

I hope all those taking part do well, and I’m looking forward to many exciting and successful races!

My fellow canoeing enthusiasts, the Augsburger Kajak Verein is delighted to welcome you to the ECA Junior Cup 2014.Young sportswomen and sportsmen from at least 15 countries across Europe will be joining us here for this slalom event. For some of them it will be their first major international competition, and we’re expecting some exciting races in the under‐14, under‐ 16 and under‐18 age categories. We’re all looking forward to seeing some spectacular strokes, edge control and rolls on Augsburg’s famous Eiskanal.

I wish all those taking part and giving their utmost all the very best for a fair competition. To the judges, I wish a keen eye for all their adjudications. And to all the trainers and supporters, I wish strong nerves to handle the excitement.

On behalf of the Augsburger Kajak Verein, I would like to thank all the volunteers who will once again be providing their sterling support to ensure the smooth running of this event. Special thanks must of course go to our sponsors and the City of Augsburg. And last, but by no means least, thanks to the water rescue service, whose presence here ensures that highest possible safety standards are met at all times.

I hope that you as a spectator will enjoy a wonderful weekend with your friends and family here at our legendary course, which was the venue for the canoeing events at the 1972 Olympic Games. Be sure to cheer on our young athletes as they pass by through thundering whirlpools and churning hydraulics, courageously mastering their way to the finish line.
