2019 Summer Intern Housing Program Information Sheet UNM Residence Life and Student Housing provides single accommodations (private bedrooms) in shared apartment‐style housing for summer interns in two of our on‐campus apartment buildings. Floorplans include the on‐campus Redondo Village Apartments, with a 4‐bedroom/1‐bath suite floorplan, or the Student Residence Center Apartments with a 6‐bedroom/2‐bath floorplan. All apartments have a community living/dining area, a kitchen, and a large storage area for larger items, like bicycles. A full complement of furniture is provided. Interns provide their own dishes, bed & bath linens, etc. The images below show our apartment layouts.

Parking Permits Parking is available for our resident interns within the housing area (R Lots) on campus and requires a parking permit. Permits purchased in advance by indication on your application will be in your check‐in packet when you arrive. Permits not indicated on your application can be purchased in person at UNM Parking and Transportation Services open M‐F, 7:30am to 5:00pm. Monthly: $61.00, Weekly: $24.00, Daily: $8.00

Johnson Gym Memberships Interns are eligible to purchase a gym membership at the Johnson Recreational Center (JRC). The Johnson Rec Center offers two memberships for interns; a month for $25.00, or a full summer, May 13th to August 1st, for $40.00. Summer hours: M‐F 8am to 8pm, Saturday 11am to 4:45pm, Sunday closed. There will be reduced hours during summer intersessions. Gym memberships are purchased directly from the Johnson Recreational Center at the JRC main front desk. Program Dates and Short-term Housing (STH) The Summer Intern Housing Program begins on May 18th. The end date is August 3rd. For interns that need to arrive earlier than May 18th, or stay later than August 3rd, STH is available at a rate of $26.00/night. If you indicate an arrival date or departure date before 5/18 or after 8/3, you may be asked to move. We will try to assign you to one apartment for the entirety of your stay. The Summer Intern Housing Application is available online at http://housing.unm.edu/conferences‐and‐lodging/summer‐interns.html Rates and Fees The following payments are required of all individuals who sign a Summer Intern Housing Application and Contract: • Applications require a $50 non‐refundable application fee. • Payment Plans require a processing fee‐see below. • Weekly rate: $165 when purchasing entire weeks from Saturday to Friday. • Additional single nights within the program dates are available at a rate of $30.00 a night. • STH rate: $26.00/night (before 5/18 or after 8/2) • Summer Mailbox rental: $10.00 Please note: • Our lowest rate is secured by purchasing full weeks. • Full payment by credit/debit card or check is due upon receipt of invoice. Your contract is not confirmed until your payment (or 1st payment if utilizing a payment plan) is complete. Payments made for interns by universities other than UNM are also due upon receipt of invoice in order to reserve a room. • Because universities can take a longer time to make payments, we recommend you arrange for your university to reimburse you directly for your housing charges so you can make a timely payment and reserve your room.

Payment Plans Payment Plans are available on a case‐by‐case basis. Requests for a payment plan need to meet a set of criteria. Plan fees range from $30.00 to $40.00. Applications From our website, download, fill out, and sign the Summer Intern Housing Program Application and Contract. Email the completed form to [email protected]. Once applications are reviewed and approved, an invoice and payment instructions will be emailed to you. When your payment is received, your room will be reserved.

Contract Cancellation and Contract Release

Cancellation prior to first day of contract: $50 cancellation fee, plus payment plan fee if applicable. Contract cancellations prior to the contract start date, will require the submission of a Contract Cancellation Letter which can be emailed to [email protected]. All cancellations must include your full name, and your clear intent to cancel your Summer Intern Housing Contract. Emails must be received before the first date of your contract.

Contract Release on or after first day of contract For contract release on or after the first day of contract, email a request to the Program Coordinator at [email protected]. Include your name, and reasoning for your request. Include any documentation that will support your request. All requests will be reviewed on a case‐by‐case basis and if granted, will mirror the UNM RLSH Summer Contract Release schedule published online at housing.unm.edu. Interns may leave before their contract has ended, but refunds for early departures are not available.

Code of Conduct By choosing to live with us, you agree to abide by all UNM RLSH policies and behavioral expectations. Please read the UNM Housing Summer Intern Contract Terms and Conditions, the SIHP Policies and Guidelines, and all items on the Current Residents Expectations and Conduct web page prior to submitting your application. Misconduct or policy violations will result in a review meeting with Conference Management, may be reported to your Internship Program Manager, and may result in a forfeiture of your housing contract. It may impact your eligibility to live with us in subsequent summers. Please note: Alcohol and smoking are prohibited within the RLSH residence halls and surrounding areas. This policy will be strictly enforced.

2019 Summer Intern Housing Program (SIHP) dates are from May 18th to to August 3rd. Short Term Housing (STH) is available before and after these dates at a rate of $26/night. ELIGIBILITY: All student interns must be registered for an internship that directly correlates to the pursuit of their educational degree. Exceptions to these eligibility requirements may be granted by the UNM RLSH Office in its sole and absolute discretion.

1. NON REFUNDABLE APPLICATION FEE: The UNM residence hall application will not be considered without payment of the non-refundable application fee. The non-refundable application fee shall not be refunded to the intern.

2. TERM: The term of this agreement is one applicable summer session for room.

3. RATES: Room rates are published by the UNM RLSH Office Summer Intern Housing Program Information Sheet which is made a part of the on-campus RLSH Summer Intern Housing Program application and contract.

4. ROOM ASSIGNMENT: Insofar as space and availability allows, consideration will be given to an applicant’s choice of residence hall room. Room assignments for the applicable summer session will be furnished at check-in.

5. FAILURE TO OCCUPY ASSIGNED ROOM: Occupancy begins and ends on resident's reservation dates. Residence hall reservations must be claimed by 10:00 pm on the start date of resident's contract. Failure to claim the space by such a time may constitute an automatic termination of the contract, and a $200 No Show Fee to be applied per the Summer Intern Housing Information Sheet. If unable to claim room by said time, contact RLSH Conferences Office.

6. AMENITIES: UNM RLSH provides housekeeping services for cleaning and sanitation of public areas only. Residents are required to keep their living areas clean, safe and sanitary. Each resident must furnish his/her own pillow, blanket, personal towels and bed linens, dishes and cookware. UNM RLSH furnishes each resident with utilities, a bed, chest of drawers, desk, chair, night stand and closet space. In the residence hall apartments, furniture is also provided for the shared living/dining area.

7. PARKING: Parking permits are required for on campus "R" lot parking and can be purchased with application or in person through UNM Parking and Transportation Services.

8. TERMINATION: The following shall govern termination of this agreement.

A. By UNM: UNM RLSH Office may terminate this agreement at any time and take possession of resident's room: if resident fails to make any payment when due; for breach of this agreement; if resident fails to take occupancy by 10:00 pm on the first day of their contract; as a consequence of any disciplinary action against the intern; or, for violation of any law, ordinance, or regulation, located in the RLSH Residence Hall Handbook and/or in University policy.

B. By Resident: Resident may terminate this agreement at the beginning of the applicable summer session by delivering written notice of termination to UNM SIHP office for the following: 1) If such notice is received prior to their first day of contract, any room and board payments received will be refunded to resident, less a cancellation charge as specified in the Summer Intern Housing Information Sheet. 2) If such notice is received after the first date of contract, resident shall be liable for contract release charges/forfeitures as specified in Summer Intern Housing Information Sheet.

9. CHECK-OUT PROCEDURES: Upon the expiration of this contract, the resident must vacate his/her room no later 12:00 pm on their scheduled check-out date. Upon the expiration or early termination of this agreement, resident shall follow the check-out procedures provided by UNM SIHP. Failure to do so will result in an improper check-out fee of $100.00. If resident fails to remove his/her personal property from the residence hall upon the expiration or termination of this agreement, UNM RLSH may remove the belongings and any such items will be disposed of by UNM RLSH Office. 10. INFORMATION DISCLOSURE: The UNM RLSH Office will make resident’s telephone number and email address available unless instructed otherwise in writing by student.

11. REGULATIONS: Resident shall observe all laws, regulations, ordinances and University polices. University policies governing residence hall living are contained in the UNM RLSH SIHP Policies and Guidelines and the Residence Hall Handbook, available on the UNM RLSH website. Resident acknowledges and unconditionally agrees that: (a) the University shall have the right to inspect all rooms, without prior notice or consent, if necessary for inventory, fire protection, sanitation, health, safety, maintenance, or policy enforcement; (b) the University may control, by medical direction, the use of rooms in the event of an epidemic; (c) the University hasthe right to vacate a resident’s living area and to require resident to move to other residence hall accommodations; (d) the University has the right to require non-disabled assignees of space adapted or designated for use by the disabled to move to other campus accommodations.

12. LIMITATION OF UNIVERSITY LIABILITY: In addition to any other right, limitation or provision available to the University, resident agrees that the University shall not be liable for any failure, delay, or interruption in performing its obligations due to causes or conditions beyond its control, or which could not be prevented or remedied by reasonable effort and at reasonable expense. Neither the University nor its regents, officers, agents, or employees shall be liable for the loss, theft, disappearance, damage, nor destruction of any property belonging to, used by, or in the possession of any resident, no matter where such property may normally be kept, used, or stored.

13. DAMAGES: Resident is responsible for any University property missing from his/her room or damaged beyond normal wear and use. Residents, individually or as a common group, may also be responsible for any University property damaged or missing from their residence hall community common spaces if no responsible individual is identified.

Cleaning Your Apartment Please be respectful of the shared space in your apartment. Timely and consistent cleaning is a must for harmony in your apartment. Make a cleaning schedule with your apartment mates and stick to it. We will conduct 2-3 Health and Safety Checks this summer so please be prepared for them with a clean apartment. Policy violations will be reported and addressed with the residents in the apartment. Repetitive violations may result in forfeit of contract.

Each apartment is equipped with a broom, mop and bucket of cleaning supplies for your use. It is your responsibility to purchase paper products, cleaning products and trash bags in order to keep your apartment clean.

Help us keep our building pest-free. Do not let trash build up in your apartment or overflow from the trash containers we have provided. Trash and recycling receptacles are located in the parking lot of RVA and in the courtyards of SRC. Do not leave dirty dishes overnight. If you notice insects in your apartment, put in a work order online immediately.

Free Wi-Fi is available on campus using Lobo Guest. See our Connectivity page for information on how to connect to the internet.

Parking is available only in the “R” on campus. (See the Parking section in this folder.) “R” lots are also indicated in yellow on the housing area map in this directory. Permits are required and can be purchased on your application or in person at UNM Parking and Transportation Services. Permits must be displayed hanging from your rearview mirror or in the lower left corner of your dashboard. Dining and Shopping There are numerous food venues on and around campus. Our Dining Hall, La Posada, is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Meal plans are available for summer interns. If you would like to purchase a meal plan, please email Rebecca Colón at [email protected] and she will arrange for your meal plan. Administrations fees will apply.

Alcohol and Tobacco

UNM is a dry campus. No alcohol is allowed anywhere on campus. We are also a non-smoking campus. Smoking is permitted in two designated areas only (indicated on the housing map provided in this book). See our Expectations and Conduct page for policies for which you will be accountable. Our Student Safety Staff

Our on-campus Student Safety Staff is on duty 24/7. Based at the Student Residence Center front desk, they can be reached by calling 505-277-9203, or visiting the SRC desk. Safety escorts within the housing areas are available and are recommended if you will be walking alone late at night.

Blue Emergency Poles

The University has a system of emergency phone boxes located on what we call “blue poles” which are positioned throughout campus. The blue poles can be used to contact the UNM Police Department. If you will have a typical route while here with us, take time to commit to memory the location of those blue poles.

UNM Wi-Fi UNM provides campus-wide Wi-Fi which can be accessed using Lobo-Guest. If you are already a student or affiliate of

UNM, with a UNM Net ID and password use your UNM Net ID and password to access Lobo-WiFi.

Mail boxes are $10.00 for non-UNM student residents and can be rented in advance via your intern application or from Conference Services after arrival. Once you have paid, you will register for your mail box at the mail room located in the Student Residence Center Commons. Bring a valid picture-ID card. You will be issued a key to your box and will be asked to give a forwarding address that will be utilized to forward mail received until September 1st. The mailroom will have extended hours 1-2 days a week to accommodate for interns with evening schedules. To avoid a $20.00 lock change charge, return your key to the mailroom during mail room hours, before you check out. Mail room hours are posted at the mail room door. Operation of the machines is free to all guests and residents. The laundry room in RVA is on the 1st floor near the elevators. There are 4 laundry rooms in the SRC Apartments area, accessible using your room key. Machines require detergents formulated for high efficiency machines that shows the “HE” logo.

Meal Plans Our guests can purchase any summer meal plan offered by the Lobocard office during the summer months. Meal plans provide a reduced rate from the regular door prices at La Posada (open for breakfast, lunch and dinner) and can be used at any central campus eatery. Lobocash is also accepted at all campus eateries, and at some off-campus restaurants. If you would like to purchase a meal plan, please email [email protected]. Administrative fees will apply. Policies for Living on Campus

By signing a UNM housing contract, you agree to abide by all national, state and local laws, all university regulations, which are outlined in the UNM Pathfinder, as well as all residence hall policies, which can be found in the Residence Life and Student Housing Residence Hall Handbook, available online at housing.unm.edu. While all the guidelines for living on campus are outlined in the Residence Hall Handbook, some of our basic expectations are listed below. Noise

Hall quiet hours are from 10:00PM to 9:00AM Sunday through Thursday and from midnight to 10:00AM on Friday and Saturday. Courtesy is expected at all times. No amplified noise should be heard in the hallways, outside your apartment, or from your room. Cleanliness

Residents are expected to maintain their room and community area at a level of sanitation acceptable for a group living environment. Dishes must not be left dirty overnight in any apartment and all trash must be taken out before it overflows. If an apartment mate has made living uncomfortable for you, address the issue with them. If the situation does not improve, contact a Conference Guest Assistant. Health and Safety Inspections will be conducted once a month. Failed inspections will result in written request to correct policy violations. Prolonged violation may result in cleaning charges and/or forfeiture of contract. Guests & Visitation Overnight guests are allowed for up to three days and must sleep in the resident’s room. Discuss your guest’s visit with your apartment mates prior to their arrival. You are responsible for your guests' behavior and must always accompany your guest while in the residence hall. Do not leave your apartment without taking your guest with you. Residents can call 505-269-8215 to be let into their room by the CGA-On-Duty. If keys are permanently lost, residents should report the loss immediately to the CGA-on-Duty. The resident will have 24 hours to locate their keys before a lock change is ordered. Once a lock change is ordered, it cannot be halted. Lock change fees are applicable and due upon receipt of invoice.

There are two designated smoking areas located within the housing area, which are indicated on the included Housing Area Map. Alcohol is prohibited in or around the residence halls.
