Spotlight on the Generosity that Matters so much to CASI

As we leave behind the decade of the 20 “teens” and proceed with confidence into the new decade of the 20 “twenties”, we thought it important to reflect on the generosity of time, talent and treasure provided by hundreds of members, volunteers, community supporters, corporate partners and Friends of CASI throughout the past year. Heading into our 47th year, we continue to advance our mission to enrich the lives of older adults in our community. Those who invest in CASI throughout the year speak loudly with their support for the important role that CASI plays in our community connecting older adults with each other and with a wide range of resources.

Here are a few important examples of the generosity shared in 2019:

Early in the year we learned of a generous member who passed away and left a wonderful bequest to CASI. In talking with those who continue to celebrate her life, we found that the programs in which she participated at CASI had made a significant impact on her life. She wished to sustain those opportunities for others. We are most grateful. During the year several members and friends took advantage of the opportunity to direct a portion of their IRA – required minimum distribution as a gift to CASI. We are so thankful for these gifts of support which also provide tax benefits for the donors. We are happy to assist with information for this great opportunity for anyone 70 ½ years old or more. The 37th CASI St. Patrick’s Day Race again provided over 3,000 runners and walkers with the opportunity to support CASI and be healthy. SAVE the DATE Saturday, March 14, 2020, for our 38th race with a new sponsor, VIBRANT, and at a new location, River Music Experience. The Birdies for Charity opportunity to pledge in support of CASI earned 7.25% in bonus- matching funds from the . Watch for your opportunity to gain bonus support for CASI when the Birdies program is launched this spring. Rock the Lot again brought music and community to our West Kimberly Road parking lot. SAVE the DATE for Friday, July 17, 2020, for the third annual summer celebration. Dozens and dozens of volunteers and sponsors devoted countless hours planning, preparing and providing The Party with a Purpose - Hat Bash 2019. Dollars raised support the Senior Secret Santa program and other opportunities for seniors throughout the year like the Be a Fan to a Senior program. The purpose behind this party makes it such a special evening. Watch for information about the 12th annual Hat Bash in November 2020 – sign up to be a volunteer, a sponsor, and plan to attend

2019 was a year of wonderful generosity. The opportunities to make connections, provide resources, meet needs and serve our community continues to grow each year.

We ask for your ongoing support for CASI and look forward to making an even bigger difference in the lives of area seniors in 2020. Thank you for your partnership. If you have questions or thoughts to share, contact Sue Rector at [email protected] or 563.386.7477 ext. 229.

Jane’s Place Adult Day Services

Jane’s Place is designed especially for adults who want to remain in the community and with their family, but cannot be home alone during the day due to physical, social or cognitive impairments.

We welcome older adults who are dealing with memory loss, confusion, dementia, effects from a stroke and disa- bilities, as well as those who are lonely and need socialization or monitoring during the day.

Jane’s Place staff continues to enhance opportunities for clients. In 2020 plans are being developed to:

Expand the musical entertainment coming to Jane’s Place since music sparks memories and enlightens mood while decreasing anxiety Create a sensory lounge to engage participants in a variety of experiences Bring awareness and educational opportunities to the community about Adult Day Services through presentations by medical professionals and caregivers Develop a spring-time garden for participants to enjoy Offer a summer social for Jane’s Place participants, families and friends to bring everyone together for conversation, fun and sharing

Recycle Your Cell Phone

Do you have an old cell phone in your kitchen drawer that you do not want to throw out but no longer have a use for?

CASI has partnered with the National Council on Aging through a Cellular Recycler pro- gram to turn donated cell phones into cash support for CASI.

Simply drop off your retired cell phone in the box at the CASI lobby during normal busi- ness hours* and we will turn them in. We receive anywhere from $5 to $30 per phone to reinvest back into CASI’s mission.

*CASI’s normal business hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm.
