Soc. & Pol. 06 (02):33-36 : 2019 ISSN: 2348-0084(P) ISSN: 2455-2127(O) HISTORY OF JHARKHAND MOVEMENT: REGIONAL ASPIRATION HAS FULFILLED YET AMIYA KUMAR SARKAR1 1Research Scholar, Department of Political Science, Adamas University Kolkata, West Bengal, INDIA ABSTRACT This paper attempts to analyze the creation of Jharkhand as a separate state through the long developmental struggle of tribal people and the condition of tribal‟s in the post Jharkhand periods. This paper also highlights the tribal movements against the unequal development and mismatch of Government policies and its poor implementations. It is true that when the Jharkhand Movement gaining ground these non-tribal groups too became part of the struggle. Thus, Jharkhandi came to be known as „the land of the destitute” comprising of all the deprived sections of Jharkhand society. Hence, development of Jharkhand means the development of the destitute of this region. In reality Jharkhand state is in the grip of the problems of low income, poor health and industrial growth. No qualitative change has been found in the condition of tribal people as the newly born state containing the Bihar legacy of its non-performance on the development front. It is assumed that industrialisation together with mining eradicates poverty is a myth in some states of India. The situation is almost different in states like Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Jharkhand. Most of the mineral graved states are not as much developed as the other states not having very giant industrial clusters and mineral excavations. Further the development should all sections of population within its influence zone. It should influence tribes as well as rural masses. In this study an attempt has been made to examine the influence of industrialisation and mining on tribes. Singhbhum region of Jharkhand has been selected for this purpose. Singhbhum region of Jharkhand is one of the most significant industrial and mining region of India. The main objective behind this investigation is to know the influence of mining and industrialization on occupational structure of tribes in Singhbhum region. An attempt has been made to study the presence of tribes in various occupations such as industry, mining, food processing industries etc. This study is mainly based on primary data. Though secondary sources of information has also been used for having basic knowledge of the area. The state boasts of 40 per cent Mineral-rich state • and 29 per cent of India’s mineral and coal reserves, respectively. With 26 per cent of the total iron ore (hematite) reserves, Jharkhand ranks second among Second largest iron ore • the states. During 2014-15, Jharkhand accounted for 16.8 per cent of the total iron ore deposits production in the country. Leading producer of • Jharkhand accounts for 14.3 per cent of the total steel produced in the country. During minerals in India 2014-15, the state produced 11.7 million tonnes of steel. The government targets to increase steel production to 25 million tonnes by 2017-18. Sole producer of coking • Jharkhand is the only state in India to produce coking coal, uranium and pyrite. The state coal, uranium and pyrite is also a leading producer of coal, mica, kyanite and copper. Previously it was called Sakchi but its name was changed by Lord Chelmsford. The old railway station was known as Kalimati railway station whose name is now changed to Tatanagar junction. Jamshedpur city has outgrown beyond such essential facilities as water supply, electricity, sewer system, drainage, transportation, sanitation services particularly outside the Tata owned area. It is the largest city in state of Jharkhand. From last few decades due to heavily industrialization, deforestation and migration this township is facing some severe problems. The aim of this research paper is to highlight the problems faced due to heavily industrialization, Urbanization, deforestation and migration. Introduction Jamshedpur, India's premiere steel city has a picturesque location on the confluence of the two rivers the Subarnarekha and its tributary the Kharkai, in an undulating micaschist plain surrounded by rugged hills and hillocks of the Jharkhand particularly the Chotanagpur plateau.
