Get Curves: Geometry Takes Shape ‘CAMPFIRE KISS’ Cast Bios DANICA McKELLAR (Dana) – Danica McKellar is well known as Winnie Cooper on “The Wonder Years” and Elsie Snuffin on “The West Wing,” and recently wowed audiences as a quarterfinalist on the ABC juggernaut “Dancing with the Stars.” She is also a New York Times bestselling author of the groundbreaking books Math Doesn’t Suck, Kiss My Math, Hot X: Algebra Exposed, and Girls Get Curves: Geometry Takes Shape. Her newest book is Goodnight Numbers, aimed at parents of young children, seeking to introduce numbers as a friendly and relevant part of their lives. Crown Books for Young Readers is the publisher. Tackling math education and simultaneously breaking the stereotype of the “math nerd,” McKellar was named “Person of the Week” by ABC World News. This honor came on the heels of her debut as author of this highly entertaining and illuminating math book series. Using fun topics like popularity and jewelry-making – as well as stories from her own life - McKellar shows girls and their parents how to master the tough mathematical concepts introduced in middle school and high school, the time when young girls begin to shy away from math. McKellar’s message to girls? Smart is sexy! A summa cum laude graduate of UCLA, McKellar earned her undergraduate degree in mathematics while also contributing original research. Her theorem, since dubbed “The Chayes- McKellar-Winn Theorem,” was published in Britain’s esteemed Journal of Physics and has been featured on the front page of the Science section of The New York Times. McKellar was also honored with the 2012 UCLA Award for Recent Graduate Achievement, and the 2014 Communications Award from the Joint Policy Board for Mathematics, which includes the American Mathematical Society and the Mathematical Association of America. In addition to continuing her acting career with such roles as a recurring spot on CBS’s hit show “How I Met Your Mother” and a guest appearance on “The Big Bang Theory,” McKellar voiced the regular role of Miss Martian on Cartoon Network’s “Young Justice,” among others. McKellar has starred in many television movies, including “The Wrong Woman” on Lifetime, which garnered some of the network’s highest ratings, and two Hallmark Channel original movies in 2015 - “Perfect Match” and “Crown for Christmas,” with the latter earning 4.3 million impressions with P2+. • Summer of ‘84
GUNPOWDER & SKY PRESENTS DIRECTED BY RKSS (Roadkill Superstar) - François Simard, Anouk Whissell and Yoann-Karl Whissell WRITTEN BY Matt Leslie / Stephen J. Smith SUMMER OF ‘84 105 min | English | Color | USA, Canada DISTRIBUTION Métropole Films Distribution 5360, boulevard Saint-Laurent Montréal, Québec Tél.: (514) 223-5511 [email protected] PRESS Bonne Smith Star PR Tél.: 416-488-4436 [email protected] LOGLINE After suspecting that their police officer neighbor is a serial killer, a group of teenage friends spend their summer spying on him and gathering evidence. SYNOPSIS Summer, 1984: The perfect time to be 15 years old and care free. But when neighborhood conspiracy theorist Davey Armstrong begins to suspect his police officer neighbor might be the serial killer all over the local news, he and his three best friends begin an investigation that soon turns dangerous. DIRECTOR’S’’’ STATEMENT HOW IT STARTED When we read SUMMER OF ‘84 back in 2015, it resonated with us on such a deep emotional and nostalgic level, it felt like it was written just for us—this was our childhood, we were these kids and their friends. The three of us grew up in the suburbs in the ‘80s, before cell phones, Internet or tablets, when information traveled more slowly than gossip. Our world was filled with adventures and mysteries, feeding our obsession with ghosts, aliens, and murder stories. The ‘80s were an exciting time to be kids, but also, we believe that was the best time for cinema. This project is one of those rare gems that captures what was so good about these movies, it ignites passion and this is why we jumped on board.
