Kosiuszko National Park offers year round fun and adventure in the . The park spoils you with sports, walks and mountain biking in the Snowy Mountains. ROOMS

There are 3 floors of rooms all with ensuites. They are accessed from a central staircase. There are 35 rooms in total and we can sleep 100 people. Rooms can be configured in 2,3,4,6 and 6 share.

Australia's first planned alpine resort was built by the NSW government on this site known as Hotel Kosciusko. The official opening was 7th June 1909. It was big and it was grand with golf, tennis, fishing, croquet, ice skating and 17 ski runs. The present day Sponars Chalet was constructed from the staff quarters of the Hotel Kosciusko. Pick up a map from reception and follow a walk back in time to catch a glimpse of the pomp and grandeur.

A v e r y b r i e f h i s t o r y

1900 saw the emergence of alpine tourism with the first organised party of tourists to adventure over the rough bullock track to the summit of .

1909 the newly created NSW Tourist Bureau built Hotel Kosciusko to meet the demand for alpine accommodation.

1926 during the hotels 3rd expansion phase a 4 story building was built as the hotel staff quarters.

1950 hotel was 'a village under one roof' with a ballroom, picture theatre, post office, bank, ski room, ski school, drying rooms, laundry, ice skating rinks, sun lounge, bar, billard room, a bazaar and an extensive dining room. Outside there was skiing, skating, golf, tennis, croquet, horse riding and dog sledding depending on the season.

1951 tragically a fire caused by an electrical fault completely destroyed the original wooden buildings.What is now Sponars Chalet, the hotel staff quarters was the only remaining structure with just walls and floors.

1959 Tony Sponar, one of the founders of Thredbo Village and his wife Elizabeth were granted a leasehold to rebuild the remnant structure. A D V E N T U R E S

A five day ebiking tour is a fantastic way to explore the park. Start and finish each day at Sponars Chalet. Embark on a completely different adventure each day. Experience the top of Australia, explore the huts of the Jagungal Wilderness, speed along the single track of the TVT, spot deer along Wragges Creek and discover the billabongs out of Island Bend.

W a l k i n g I n T h e S n o w y M o u n t a i n s Spring, summer or autumn, the Perisher areas spoils you with an incredible variety of walks. Climb Mount Kosciuszko, take a gentle stroll by a mountain stream, discover historic huts, or tackle a challenging hike across the rooftop of Australia.

A l p i n e L a k e s I n t h e S n o w y M o u n t a i n s There is something magic about alpine lakes. We have our own alpine lake in front of the chalet but we have at three others for you to visit.

It's an incredible hike out of Charlottes Pass to Blue Lake along The Main Range Walk. Rainbow Lake walking track is a short and easy walk for the whole family, with great opportunities for picnicking, bird watching, and enjoying the fresh mountain air. It is close by and 2.5km return. Illawong walk is a gorgeous 5km return walk. It begins in the charming Guthega Village and follows along the through alpine heath and towering, majestic snow gums, all the way up to Illawong Hut, one of the oldest buildings still standing in the park. R O A D C Y C L I N G I N T H E S N O W Y M O U N T A I N S The Snowy Mountains region is an amazing place to enjoy road cycling at every fitness level. The quality road surfaces, incredible views, light traffic and challenging climbs are all a great attraction for roads cyclists.

In summer we have the whole national park at our door and in winter Perisher Ski field is fantastic fun and caters for groups well. It's a great way for students to travel and experience nature.
