For Immediate Release ‘COME DANCE AT MY WEDDING’ CAST BIOS JOHN SCHNEIDER (Tanner Grey) – In a business known for its decidedly ephemeral nature, John Schneider has staying power. After nearly 30 years on stage, screen and studio, he still performs regularly in all mediums. The consummate good guy surprised audiences in F/X’s acclaimed “Nip/Tuck,” with a recurring role as porn producer Ram Peters, a mystery man from Kimber’s past. He also co-starred in the Hallmark Channel Movie Event “Shark Swarm,” opposite F. Murray Abraham and Daryl Hannah, and played one of Catherine Zeta Jones’ loves interests in the comedy feature film “Rebound.” Schneider wrote, directed and starred in the action-adventure film “Collier & Company” which was released theatrically in 2007 by his own distribution company A Grass Roots Effort and just released on DVD. He is passionate about the art of filmmaking and was involved in every aspect of the movie. A seasoned director, he also helmed episodes of “The Dukes of Hazzard,” “Smallville” and the telefilm “Mary Christmas,” which aired on PAX TV. He continues to direct and recently finished starring in and directing much of the new mini-series “26 Miles” which filmed on Catalina Island and allowed him to showcase his musical talents. The busy actor was a series regular for five seasons on the acclaimed drama “Smallville” as ‘Jonathan Kent,’ the father of teenage ‘Clark Kent.’ He was also a series regular as ‘Daniel,’ the sheriff on the popular CBS television series “Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman.” Schneider is also an accomplished singer, guitar player and song writer. He has released 11 solo albums, four of which he co-produced with music legend Jimmy Bowen, and has performed in numerous Broadway shows, such as the award-winning musical Grand Hotel, The Will Rogers Follies, Brigadoon, Music Man, and Civil War. He continues to perform on stage and appeared last summer at the Hollywood Bowl in Mame, in the role of yet another smooth Southerner, ‘Beauregard.’ He starred on Broadway once again in Chicago as ‘Billy Flynn.’ On the big screen, Schneider has appeared in over 15 features including “Snow Day” with Chevy Chase, Garry Marshall’s “Exit to Eden” and “Eddie Macon’s Run,” opposite Kirk Douglas. Recognizing a need for better healthcare for children, he co-founded the Children’s Miracle Network, an international non-profit organization dedicated to helping children by raising funds and awareness for 170 children’s hospitals throughout North America. Each year, these hospitals treat more than 17 million children. Since its inception, the Children’s Miracle Network Celebration has raised more than $3.5 billion and is the only telethon that gives 100% of the money raised directly to the beneficiary. (more) HALLMARK CHANNEL/ ‘COME DANCE AT MY WEDDING’ – Cast Bios – Page 2 Schneider was born in upstate New York and began performing in local theater by the age of eight. When he was 18, he heard about a casting call for a new series called “The Dukes of Hazzard.” His agent tried to dissuade him from auditioning since they were looking for actors far older and from the South, so Schneider showed up to the audition with a six pack of beer and a torn shirt and convinced the producers he was a 24-year-old farmer from “Snailville” GA. Not bad for an 18-year-old from Westchester County, New York! The producers were sold on the young actor, and for six seasons he starred as ‘Bo Duke’ on the hugely popular 80’s comedy-adventure series that became a part of the national zeitgeist. To this day, Schneider has a love of cars and has an impressive collection of classic automobiles he works on. He likes poker, golf and gardening, and he reportedly makes a mean cappuccino! He resides in the San Fernando Valley with his wife, Elly, their three children and two dogs. ### ROMA DOWNEY (Laura Williams) – Probably best known for her role as Monica in CBS’s almost decade-long-running series “Touched by an Angel,” Roma Downey has certainly found her place in the Hollywood limelight. Originally from Ireland, she studied at Brighton Art College in England as well as the London Drama Studio. Now, she not only acts, but produces as well. By the early 90s, Downey had already added a number of theatrical productions to her résumé, including Loves Labors Lost and Arms and the Man, as well as The Circle for Broadway’s Ambassadors Theatre. Since then, she has performed in a national tour of Playboy of the Western World with Ireland’s Abbey Theatre and A Picasso at the Geffen Theatre in 2007. Downey is better known for her television roles, with her performance in “Touched by an Angel” garnering her two Emmy® nominations and two Golden Globe nominations, all for Best Actress. In 1991, she starred in the Primetime Emmy® winner “A Woman Named Jackie,” and a year later, she appeared in the TV movies “Getting Up and Going Home” and “Devlin.” In less than a decade, Downey had starred in the TV movies “Hercules and the Amazon Women,” “A Child is Missing” opposite Henry Winkler, and “The Test of Love.” Downey began working as a producer in the late 90s, on the same programs in which she was already acting. Along with a lead role in each, Downey was executive producer for “Borrowed Hearts” with Eric McCormack, “Monday After the Miracle,” “A Secret Life,” “Second Honeymoon” and “Sons of Mistletoe.” In 2004, she also produced “The Survivors Club” and “Funky Monkey.” In addition to her acting schedule, Downey has, since 1995, been the International Spokesperson for Operation Smile, a volunteer organization whose mission is to help improve the lives of children born with facial deformities. Operation Smile has helped more than 120,000 children since its inception in 1982. Starring alongside Gregory Harrison in her portrayal of ‘Angela Robinson,’ Nevin was nominated for the Young Artists Award. Some of Nevin’s television work includes guest roles on such highly rated shows as “Without A Trace,” “Supernatural,” “Smallville,” “Charmed” and “Everwood.” She also appeared as the series lead ‘Nikki Hudson’ in the USA Network hit “The 4400.” Currently she is recurring in the CBS comedy “Worst Week.” In addition to the guest starring roles, Nevin also starred in the Lifetime movie “A Daughter’s Conviction” opposite Kate Jackson. She has worked with Marcia Gay Harden and Treat Williams on the CBS mini-series “Guilty Hearts,” with Natasha Richardson on the CBS mini-series “Haven,” and opposite George Hamilton in the made-for-TV movie “Too Cool For Christmas.” On the big screen, Nevin starred opposite Ray Liotta and Glenn Headley in the feature “Comeback Season,” which premiered at the 2006 Tribeca Film Festival. She can also be seen in the Sony/Original Films feature “I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer,” and has starred in several independent films, including “My Suicide” opposite Gabriel Sunday, David Carradine, Mariel Hemingway and Joe Mantegna and “Sherman’s Way” opposite James LeGros and Enrico Colontoni, and the Fox Atomic feature called “The Comebacks.” Nevin keeps her tools sharp by performing sketch comedy at the Second City Studio Theatre in Los Angeles. She is a native of Toronto, Ontario and currently resides in Los Angeles. ### CHRISTOPHER JACOT (Zach Callahan) – Christopher Jacot has developed an extensive résumé in film and television since attending The National Theater School of Canada. He first appeared in the Mirimax feature “Get Over It,” before starring in National Lampoon’s “Going The Distance.” One of Jacot’s first supporting roles was on the award-winning Canadian series “Twice in a Lifetime,” and from there, he went on to star in “MythQuest.” He also appeared on shows such as “Relic Hunter” and “The Murdoch Mysteries.” Jacot has recurred on the widely popular shows “Degrassi” and “Eureka,” and he has guest-starred on “Supernatural,” “Psych” and “Smallville.” He has also appeared in many made-for-TV movies and feature films, including (more) HALLMARK CHANNEL/ ‘COME DANCE AT MY WEDDING’ – Cast Bios – Page 4 “Word of Honor,” “Merlins Apprentice,” “7 Things To Do Before I’m 30,” “Battle in Seattle,” “Spectacular,” “Mirabalis” and “Killer Hair.” -- HALLMARK CHANNEL -- .

  • France Invades the 1961 White House
France Invades the 1961 White House Christopher Early East Carolina University Visual Arts and Design Faculty Mentor Hunt McKinnon East Carolina University Throughout its history, America‟s White House has undergone many changes through its many administrations. While a select few presidents worked to improve it, most others merely neglected it. No one, however, worked harder in restoring the White House interior than Jacqueline Kennedy, wife of President John F. Kennedy, who occupied the Executive Mansion from January 1961 until November 1963. Soon after Kennedy‟s election to the presidency in November 1960, a pregnant Jacqueline Kennedy visited the White House, as per protocol, and was given a tour of her soon-to-be-home by the outgoing First Lady, Mamie Eisenhower. “Jackie‟s first visit to the White House was her coming-out party as the next first lady.” 1 After viewing the condition of the White House, Mrs. Kennedy was appalled by its drab furniture and design. She was shocked that the White House interior, that of America‟s preeminent home, had been so woefully decorated. To her, it was nothing short of a national disgrace. Soon after taking up residence in the White House, both the President and his First Lady were struck by how depressing, drab, and tasteless the home appeared. Furniture in rooms did not match with each other, nor did paintings adorning the walls. There were no unifying themes in individual rooms or the mansion as a whole. “To her dismay she found the upstairs family quarters decorated with what she called „early Statler‟; it was so cheerless and undistinguished it wasn‟t even worthy of a second-class hotel.

A MODERN FAMILY: THE PERFORMANCE OF “FAMILY” AND FAMILIALISM IN CONTEMPORARY TELEVISION SERIES by Jennifer M. Fogel A dissertation submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Communication) in The University of Michigan 2012 Doctoral Committee: Associate Professor Amanda D. Lotz, Chair Professor Susan J. Douglas Professor Regina Morantz-Sanchez Associate Professor Bambi L. Haggins, Arizona State University © Jennifer M. Fogel 2012 ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS I owe my deepest gratitude to the members of my dissertation committee – Dr. Susan J. Douglas, Dr. Bambi L. Haggins, and Dr. Regina Morantz-Sanchez, who each contributed their time, expertise, encouragement, and comments throughout this entire process. These women who have mentored and guided me for a number of years have my utmost respect for the work they continue to contribute to our field. I owe my deepest gratitude to my advisor Dr. Amanda D. Lotz, who patiently refused to accept anything but my best work, motivated me to be a better teacher and academic, praised my successes, and will forever remain a friend and mentor. Without her constructive criticism, brainstorming sessions, and matching appreciation for good television, I would have been lost to the wolves of academia. One does not make a journey like this alone, and it would be remiss of me not to express my humble thanks to my parents and sister, without whom seven long and lonely years would not have passed by so quickly. They were both my inspiration and staunchest supporters. Without their tireless encouragement, laughter, and nurturing this dissertation would not have been possible.

  • And the Hamitic Hypothesis
religions Article Ancient Egyptians in Black and White: ‘Exodus: Gods and Kings’ and the Hamitic Hypothesis Justin Michael Reed Department of Biblical Studies, Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary, Louisville, KY 40205, USA; [email protected] Abstract: In this essay, I consider how the racial politics of Ridley Scott’s whitewashing of ancient Egypt in Exodus: Gods and Kings intersects with the Hamitic Hypothesis, a racial theory that asserts Black people’s inherent inferiority to other races and that civilization is the unique possession of the White race. First, I outline the historical development of the Hamitic Hypothesis. Then, I highlight instances in which some of the most respected White intellectuals from the late-seventeenth through the mid-twentieth century deploy the hypothesis in assertions that the ancient Egyptians were a race of dark-skinned Caucasians. By focusing on this detail, I demonstrate that prominent White scholars’ arguments in favor of their racial kinship with ancient Egyptians were frequently burdened with the insecure admission that these ancient Egyptian Caucasians sometimes resembled Negroes in certain respects—most frequently noted being skin color. In the concluding section of this essay, I use Scott’s film to point out that the success of the Hamitic Hypothesis in its racial discourse has transformed a racial perception of the ancient Egyptian from a dark-skinned Caucasian into a White person with appearance akin to Northern European White people. COMICS COSPLAY TV/FILM GAMES SUBMIT CGC Search … Will This Manhattan Projects Original Artwork Cliffhanger Make Another Big Splash? Posted by Mark Seifert March 19, 2014 0 Comments Facebook Twitter Pinterest LinkedIn Tumblr Email Reddit [The Manhattan Projects #18 has been out for a couple weeks, but still — if you haven’t read this issue and plan to, you might want to skip this post for now.] Several years into the digital era for both comics reading and comics production, I still love to look at original comic art up close. The look and feel of the art board, the subtle texture of the ink, the faint traces of changes and corrections… it all adds up to a little extra insight into the time and circumstances behind the comics book’s creation. We’ve mentioned a bunch of noteworthy original art sales here in recent times — from that awe-inspiring Golden Age Action Comics #15 cover by Fred Guardineer, to this Silver Age Fantastic Four #55 page by Jack Kirby, to this Bronze Age classic Amazing Spider- Man #121 cover by John Romita Sr, down to the current record holder for a piece of American comic book art with this Amazing Spider-Man #328 cover by Todd McFarlane. And increasingly, original art sales from much more recent comics are turning heads as well. It’s probably no surprise that Skottie Young original art is highly sought after, or that Walking Dead original art — even panel pages — can command some eye- popping prices. But modern comic art collectors have broadened their interests to many other artists and titles of quality in recent times, such as this Pia Guerra Y: The Last Man panel page that recently went for $1000.
