YEARLY CURRENT AFFAIRS 2019 www.examprostuti.com  India's 1st National maritime heritage museum to be built in Lothal, Gujarat with the help of Portugal.  Mumbai Central station of Western Railways was conferred with the ‘Eat Right Station' certification with a 4-star rating by FSSAI.  Resolution to empower citizens adopted at conference organized by DARPG in Nagpur.  India’s 1st transgender university will open in Fazilnagar in Uttar Pradesh.  Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) announced that the Aadhaar project crossed 125 crore mark of registration.  16-year old Vadodara based Aayushi Dholakia won the crown Miss Teen International 2019  India State of Forest Report (ISFR) 2019  The total forest cover of the country is 7,12,249 sq km which is 21.67% of the geographical area of the country.  The tree cover of the country is estimated as 95,027 sq km which is 2.89% of the geographical area.  The total Forest and Tree covercover of the country is 8,07,276 sq km which is 24.56% of the geographical area of the country.  The top three states in terms of increase in forest cover are Karnataka (1,025 sq km), Andhra Pradesh (990 sq km) and Kerala (823 sq km).  There has been a decreadecreasese of forest cover to the extent of 765 sq km (0.45%) in the North Eastern region all states except Assam and Tripura.  Mangrove cover in the country has increased by 54 sq km (1.10%) as compared to the previous assessment.  Maharashtra has had the highest iincreasencrease in tree cover and a large part of that is due to horticulture.  Amongst the States, Gujarat has the largest area of wetlands within RFA in the country followed by West Bengal.  Dependence of fuel wood on forests is the highest in the State of Maharashtra, whereas, for fodder, small timber and bamboo, dependence is highest in Madhya Pradesh.  20th Livestock Census 2019  The total Livestock population is 535.78 million in the country showing an increase of 4.6% over Livestock Census-2012. West Bengal observed the highest increase of 23%, followed by Telangana (22%).  Uttar Pradesh has the highest number of livestock of 67.8 million, followed by Rajasthan 56.8 million, Madhya Pradesh: 40.6 million and West Bengal: 37.4 million.  West Bengal has seen the highhighestest rise of 15% in cattle population and Uttar Pradesh has observed a maximum decrease in cattle population though the state has taken several steps to save cattle.  Tamil Nadu has the highest number of poultry population with 120.8 million, followed by Andhra Pradesh (107.9 million), Telangana (80 million) and West Bengal (77.3 million).  India Innovation Index 2019  NITI (National Institution for Transforming India) Ayog with the Institute for Competitiveness has released the India Innovation Index 2019.  Karnataka with score 35.65 emerged topper in the overall rankings in the category of major states with Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra in the second and third positions.  Health Index 2019 - NITI Aayog

 On January 10, 2019, West Bengal Govt announced the exit of West Bengal from the Ayushman Bharat- Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojna due to the use of PM’s picture in the official poster of the center- state joint scheme.  Mamata Banerjee led West Bengal government announced two welfare initiatives for farmers as a part of the ‘Krishi Krishak Bondhu’ scheme which will come into effect from New Year’s Day i.e. January 1, 2019. o Under the first of the two schemes, If a farmer aged between 18 to 60 years dies naturally or unnaturally, the state government will pay his family Rs 2 lakh. o Under the second initiative, farmers would get Rs 2,500 twice a year for growing a single crop on one acre of land.

 The Union Cabinet chaired by Narendra Modi approved the setting up of a circuit bench of Calcutta High court at Jalpaiguri in West Bengal. This Circuit bench will have jurisdiction in 4 places- Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Cooch Behar, Kalimpong.  Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated Railway electrification of 294-km long Andal-Sainthia- Pakur-Malda and Khana-Sainthia sections in West Bengal.  International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) has decided to set up a “World Heritage Centre” housing “spiritual camps” of 45 countries, at its HHeadquarter,eadquarter, Mayapur in Nadia district of West Bengal.  Regional Conference on ‘Deendayal Disabled Rehabilitation Scheme (DDRS)’ organized by DEPwD at Kolkata, West Bengal.  Union Culture Minister Mahesh Sharma inaugurated India’s very first ‘Fulldome 3D Digital Theatre’ at the Science City in Kolkata, West Bengal.  Bengali singer Pratik Choudhary passed away in Kolkata, West Bengal due to cardiac arrest. o He’s popular for songs like Sakhi Tumi Kar (1980), Ek Je AachheKanya (2001) and Patalghar (2003) and has performed with famous singers in various concerts.  Father Franois Laborde a 92-year-old priest from Bengal was conferred with Légion d’Honneur (Legion of Honour) in recognition of his work for specially-abled and destitute children. o Father Laborde has set up an organization called Howrah South Point. o Father Franois Laborde is the third person from the state of West Bengal to have been awarded the Legion of Honor after film maestro and actor Soumitra Chatterjee.

 West Bengal Govt. launched a new scheme called Yuvashree Plan II or Yuvashree Arpan under which 50,000 youths will receive financial assistance of Rs 1 lakh for setting up their own business initiatives.  The Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee laid the foundation stone of the first Hindi university in West Bengal in Arupara, Howrah district.  The Japanese government decided to provide Rs. 22 lakhs ($31,800) for the Rabindra Bharati Museum in Kolkata, West Bengal in order to establish deeper and stronger historical and cultural ties with India.

 Justice Thottathil Bhaskaran Nair Radhakrishnan sworn-in as the new Chief Justice of Calcutta High Court. He succeeded Biswanath Somadder.  Calcutta Sports Journalists’ club annual awards 2019 held at Kolkata: o Jhulan Goswami, former captain of India national women’s cricket team, awarded the “Sportsperson of the Year”. o Sukumar Samajpati, former India winger and SambarSambaranan Banerjee, former national selector and Bengal’s Ranji Trophy-winning captain honored ‘Lifetime Achievement’ awards.  The schemes under the West Bengal government, namely, “Utkarsh Bangla” (Skill training of the youth) and“Sabooj Sathi” (cycles for studenstudents)ts) have won the distinguished World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) awards of the United Nations (UN). o Utkarsh Bangla Scheme: The aim of this scheme is to give vocational training to school dropouts by providing 400 to 1200 hours of training free of any charge, thus providing impetus to increase employment opportunities for the young generation. o Sabooj Sathi Scheme: This scheme, launched in September 2015 aimed at the distribution of environment-friendly bicycles to students of class IX to XII studying in government-run and government-aided schools and madrashas. The objective of the scheme was to empower the students, especially the girl students and to reduce dropouts in higher education.  Famous Bengali Folk Singer Amar Paul died at the age of 97.

 Veteran Bengali film and TV actor Mrinal Mukherjee died in Kolkata at the age of 74.  Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee, in a reshuffle of ministers, appointed Alapan Bandyopadhyay, an IAS officer of the 1987 batch, as the new Home Secretary for West Bengal. He succeeds Atri Bhattacharya.  The Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Sunil Lanba inainauguratedugurated Indian Navy’s first full-fledged Service Selection Board (SSB) at Diamond Harbour, near Kolkata. This is the fifth SSB Service Selection Board of the Indian Navy.

He hailed from West Bengal.  Bengali singer-actress Ruma Guha Thakurta died at her Baliganj residence in Kolkata following old age- related problems at the age of 84.  Army commissioned "Continuous Ambient Air Quality MonitorinMonitoringg System (CAAQMS)", an air quality monitor, at Fort William Military Station, Kolkata, as a part of 'Go Green' initiative. It monitors air pollution on a real-time basis.

 The West Bengal State Government has launched an awareness campaign ‘Save Green, Stay Clean’ for preserving the greenery and keeping the environment clean. o The State Government has distributed more than 1 lakhs saplings throughout the state for spreading of greenery.  Kolkata Metro has constructed the first-ever transport tunnel in the country which will pass through underwater.  West Bengal is at the top of the list of states for GDP growth rate, achieving 12.58 per cent during 2018-19. o West Bengal is followed by Andhra Pradesh which has recorded GDP growth of 11.02, Bihar with 10.53 and Telangana 10.5 per cent respectively.
