LIU beat Bryant FEBRUARY in overtime on the road, before returning home to the Steinberg Wellness Center Saturday, where they beat Fairleigh 2 ROBERT MORRIS* L, 63-67 Dickinson, 75-69. With the win, LIU clinched a spot in the NEC Tournament, and moved into a tie for second place in 4 SAINT FRANCIS UNIVERSITY* L, 78-80 the standings with the Knights. • Senior Jerome Frink led LIU in both games, and was named NEC Player of the Week for his efforts. Frink averaged 9 at Bryant* W, 88-85 (OT) 21.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and shot 50.0 percent from the field. He also converted 50.0 percent from 11 FAIRLEIGH DICKINSON* W, 75-69 three-point territory, sinking 5-10 attempts. The Jersey City, N.J. native matched a career-high when he erupted for 15 at St. Francis Brooklyn* (CBSSN) 6:00 p.m. 30 points and added 10 boards in his NEC-best 12th double-double effort of the season as the Blackbirds secured an 18 SACRED HEART* (MSG) 12:00 p.m. 88-85 overtime win at Bryant on Thursday. In 2016, SFBK took home the trophy beating LIU at home, 64-49. 1 NEC Tournament Quarterfinals • St. Francis enters the match-up with a 4-23 overall record, and 2-12 in conference action. Since opening the NEC 4 NEC Tournament Semifinals season with overtime wins over Bryant and CCSU, the Terriers have been on a slide. 7 NEC Tournament Finals • A part of that slide was a 63-58 loss to the Blackbirds in the Steinberg Wellness Center in January. The win for LIU was a total team effort, as seniors Iverson Fleming (16 points, 10 rebounds) and Jerome Frink (15 points, 12 rebounds), along junior Nura Zanna (12 points, 11 rebounds) each had a double double for LIU, while freshman * Northeast Conference game Jashaun Agosto chipped in 12 points. SFBK freshman Rasheem Dunn led all scorers in the game with 21 points and All Times Eastern had eight rebounds, while Yunus Hopkinson had 16 points for the Terriers. LIU’s defense held SFBK’s leading scorer Glenn Sanabria (then averaging 14.4 ppg) to just three points in the win, on 1-of-13 shooting. Home games in BOLD • This is the first of two TV games for the Blackbirds this week. Saturday, February 18, LIU will host Sacred Heart at 12 1 – Game played at Barclays Center (Brooklyn, N.Y.) p.m., in a contest set to air on MSG Networks. 2 – Steve Wright Classic (Boston, Mass.) 2016-17 LIU BROOKLYN MEN’S BASKETBALL • PROBABLE STARTERS/RESERVES #2 JASHAUN AGOSTO #4 JULIAN BATTS #3 IVERSON FLEMING #33 JEROME FRINK #13 NURA ZANNA FR. | G | 5-11 | 150 FR. | G | 5-11 | 175 SR. | G | 6-1 | 160 SR. | F | 6-7 | 230 R-JR. | F | 6-7 | 240 11.4 ppg 4.9 ppg 13.7 ppg 17.5 ppg 8.7 ppg 1.8 rpg 2.3 rpg 3.3 rpg 9.3 rpg 8.3 rpg 2.8 apg 1.8 apg 1.3 Spg 1.0 Bpg 62.2 fg% NOTES: Had 20 points and 4 assists in NOTES: Had career-high 14 points and NOTES: Had 24 points, including OT NOTES: NEC Player of the Week; tied NOTES: Had 11 rebounds and 10 points OT win at Bryant seven assists against SFU game-winner at Bryant, and 5 assists career-high w/30 pts at Bryant. against Bryant for 11th double-double NO.
