NEW: We’ve chosen to separate the different types of Phalaenopsis into their very own sections to make finding the type of Phalaenopsis you like much easier:

Phalaenopsis Categories are now divided into: Species, Multi-Floral Minis, Micro-Minis, “Big Lip” hybrids, Waxy (often Fragrant) Novelties & larger-flowering Classic Phalaenopsis in new colors & patterns

We’ve also expanded our collection of miniature Vandaceous, miniature Dendrobiums, miniature Oncidinae & divisions of some of our select Paphs in addition to Miscellaneous Genera ~ all of which grow & flower happily with our Phals. Each genus is put into their own category after our Phal. listings.

Most plants are in 2.7 - 3” pots as first or second bloomers unless otherwise noted as being in 4” pots

Stock quantities of 6 or fewer are noted in parens

ORDERING INFORMATION FOR OUR MAIL ORDER CLIENTS: In the winter or during inclement weather, shipments may be delayed pending more moderate weather conditions. Shipping is either via FedEx Ground or Air depending on the final destination. We reserve the right to withdraw any offering from sale and to limit quantities. We guarantee all plants to be true to identity to the best of our knowledge. However, since many come in from Taiwan, we have to assume they are properly labeled as to their species or hybrid name. We make no warranty as to the productiveness of any plants sold since everyone’s culture conditions vary widely.

Although we do our utmost to pack carefully, we are not responsible for damage to buds or flowers due to shipping if buyer specifically requests these plants ~ therefore, risk is assumed by buyer for buds or flowers on plants shipped at this stage Safe arrival of a healthy orchid is guaranteed.

Packing & Shipping Charges: Based on the total of your order, a minimum of 10% for packing plus the actual FedEx shipping cost will be charged. We use FedEx Ground for all 1-3 day deliveries within our delivery zone since Ground shipping rates are much more reasonable than Air. If heat packs are requested, they will be provided for an additional $4.50.

Additional Shipping Note: FedEx charges an extra $3.50 for “Home Delivery” so many of our clients choose to have their plants delivered to either their office or to a nearby FedEx Ship Center that accepts “Hold for Pickup” packages ~ those business/FedEx locations always get their deliveries much earlier in the day than the average Home Delivery. If you want to save the additional charge levied for Home Delivery, please let us know if you have a business address you would like to use, or we can research a FedEx location near you that would accept a Ground or Express package as a “Hold for Pickup”.

During the colder months of the year, having your plants sent to either your business address or a FedEx location as a “Hold for Pickup” usually means it’s delivered much earlier in the day & is not exposed to riding around on a cold delivery vehicle for additional hours. So whenever possible, we highly recommend doing this.

SIZE DEFINITIONS:

PF = Previously flowered, fully mature Blooming Size plants F = Currently in flower (single spike unless otherwise noted) B = In bud (single spike unless otherwise noted) SP = In spike, just initiating to medium spike stage (single spike unless otherwise noted) BS = Blooming size (should flower in season) NBS = Near blooming size (approximately 1 year to flowering in season) S = about 2-3 years to flowering

PHAL SPECIES:

Most of these Phalaenopsis species are from Taiwan & reflect much improved forms & colors, having been sibbed or selfed using very select parents. Species like Phal. bellina, violacea, venosa, speciosa, gigantea and javanica are extremely slow to reach maturity & can be easily lost as small seedlings so we’re only offering well-established Near Blooming or Blooming Size plants. As a result of their extra years to reach maturity, the pricing on these plants is higher than is usual for quicker growing & more readily available Phal. species.

PHOTO NAME & DESCRIPTION SIZE PRICE

Phal. aphrodite subsp. formosana PF $ 38 ‘A09001’ (4N) (3)

(TETRAPLOID FORM of Species)

NEW A dynamite sibbing of this favorite of all Phal. species ! This population is a tetraploid (4N) form, producing more compact leaves and much larger flowers than is typical for this subspecies of aphrodite, its fuller form & beautifully round flowers with the petals almost touching, carries great substance & produces a much longer-lasting display with a smaller leaf span than is typical for this species. These plants already flowered late this spring & are now in bud again, giving you flowering more than once a year. And the bonus to this particular 4N strain is their naturally & gracefully cascading spikes which make for a stunning display !

Note: We just won the IPA Best Phal in Show Trophy when we displayed this plant with its long cascading & beautifully arranged inflorescence !

BS/SP $ 65 Phal. bellina x sib (4)

(FRAGRANT Species)

This sibbing is the result of using two NEW select clones of Phal. bellina in Taiwan to produce fuller rounder flowers with an Pre-Orders intense central blush ! Extremely slow to Only reach maturity, once they do flower they reward us with their vivid color and amazing fragrance, complete with beautifully wavy round leaves and a nicely compact spike. Often the flower spikes remain green & continue to add buds and flowers in season in addition to

creating even more new spikes. A great show of color and fragrance !

PLEASE NOTE: These plants just came in bare-root from Taiwan in September, were potted up in NZ moss & as a result, are now getting nicely established. Please be aware of this & the need to get them more fully established under your growing conditions.

FRAGRANT WAXY SPECIES

PHOTO NAME & DESCRIPTION SIZE PRICE

Phal. bellina ‘Red Apple’ x self BS $ 65 (1) (FRAGRANT Species)

This particular selfing of ‘Red Apple’ was made to achieve fuller rounder waxy fragrant flowers carrying an intense flush/blush over all its segments ! ‘Red Apple’ was specifically chosen for its red, rather than pink, flush, creating a stunning contrast against the creamy white flowers. Although slower to reach flowering size than many other Phal. species, it’s more than worth the wait for its fragrance alone in addition to giving us a beautiful presentation during the hotter months of the year !

FRAGRANT WAXY SPECIES !

Phal. equestris fma. alba With $ 55 keiki(s) on spike (Rare pure alba form of Species) (2)

These seedlings are from the same population as a select form of this NEW species to which we gave the clonal name ‘Tara’s Beauty’ (pictured on the right) ! The flowers are fuller and much longer lasting than is typical for the species which leads us to wonder if it’s a tetraploid (4N) population. Their vigorously branching spikes make this strain highly desirable. We have left their still-green spikes on each plant since they can readily produce keikis on their spikes in addition to producing new flowering spikes !

MINIATURE SPECIES ONE-OF-A-KIND PLANTS !

PF/BS $ 55 Phal. equestris fma. coerulea (3)

(Blue lip form of Species)

NEW This white form of Phal. equestris bears soft coerulean blue lips, varying in intensity according to light & temperature when they’re forming. Beautifully compact spikes were produced on their first flowering. We’ve left the still green spikes on these plants since they can continue to either add additional buds or produce keikis from the original still- green spike, add additional buds & still produce new flowering spikes !

ONE-OF-A-KIND PLANTS !

PHOTO NAME & DESCRIPTION SIZE PRICE

B/F $ 75 Phal. speciosa var. christiana (1) (‘C#1’ AM/AOS x self)

(Two-tone color form of Species) NEW

A unique color form of this species which Pre-Orders has been recognized & awarded by the Only AOS both as Phal. tetraspis and Phal. speciosa var. christiana ! So neither the taxonomists nor the AOS judging system can yet agree with what it actually should be called. However, this particular selfing should produce the same two- tone fragrant flowers as its parent with the potential for some flowering as solid

reds. When in full flower, it makes an arresting display of color with no two flowers exhibiting the same red accents. Great fun since each new flower is a surprise ! FRAGRANT SPECIES

This is an exceptionally dark & select clone of this species ! Beautiful glossy Pre-Order Only green undulating leaves with cascading spikes around 5-7” long. VERY RARE MINI SPECIES

PHALAENOPSIS HYBRIDS

Most of these clones are the result of cutting-edge Taiwanese breeding programs & are plants we’ve hand-selected from some of the most forward thinking nurseries during our annual trips to Taiwan to judge their TIOS Orchid Show. The advantage to many of the Multi-floral Minis is that they tend to spike more than once a year, due to their breeding background. We’ve found them spiking every 6-9 months once the initial flowering is over !

PLEASE NOTE: With many of the harlequins & the red or orange novelties, differences in light & temperature at various times of the year will cause some variation to occur in the flower color and/or intensity of their markings. Under warmer temperatures & more shaded conditions in the summer, many red novelty-type hybrids with yellow or orange in their breeding background will flower showing more of the influence of those colors. Under cooler temperatures & brighter light in the fall to winter months, the red pigment in the flowers is more strongly expressed resulting in solid to nearly solid red flowers.

Also, many hybrids with a heavy Harlequin influence will show their boldest and most vivid colors when bloomed under cooler temperatures & brighter light during the fall & winter.

In addition, many of the Novelty-type hybrids with Phal. bellina and/or violacea in their background improve in color intensity and size with fuller form on their 2nd & 3rd flowerings, as do the actual species parents.

MULTI-FLORAL MINIATURES (including Harlequin & Peloric Multi-floral Minis):

PHOTO NAME & DESCRIPTION SIZE PRICE

Phal. Chi Yueh Pure Dream ‘M’ B/F $ 28 (Not yet registered with the RHS) (3)

This just-released pure white multi-floral

mini is so new that its parentage hasn’t yet been registered with the RHS ! Producing multitudes of miniature Phal. aphrodite-type flowers on branching spikes, we suspect that one of its parents is Phal. aphrodite with possibly Timothy

Christopher or Cassandra alba as the

other, creating a floriferous display of 1

¾” flowers on gently cascading spikes.

A new little charmer that will fit readily

into any space-challenged collection !

MULTI-FLORAL MINI !

Phal. Chia E Yenlin PF $ 28 ’LHB08’ (1) (Sogo Yenlin x Formosa Cranberry)

A stunning harlequin-influenced multi- floral miniature ! Its flowers are heavily

suffused with harlequin spotting fusing to a dark rich burgundy (darker than our photo shows) covering most of the

flowers, leaving just a charming pink

picotee as a halo around its segments.

This particular hybrid also has very

attractive silvery-green foliage as

opposed to the traditional dark green leaves of many miniatures. And as first bloomers they already rewarded us with 2-3 compact spikes, with those that were cut back spiking once again !

MULTI-FLORAL MINI !

Phal. Evarise Blue Angel SP/B $ 38-45 ’ER04747’ AM/AOS (4)

(Purple Martin x lobbii) 2+ spikes

This is one of those totally delightful multi-floral miniatures that we awarded an AM/AOS at a recent Taiwan JUST IN ! International Orchid Show ~ FRAGRANT & BLUE ! This little wonder is producing two or more spikes as first bloomers, compact spikes over equally compact

leaf spans. Their crowning glory is the

lobbii-type lip which sets off their flowers

with an accent of rich purple-blue. One

of our all-time favorites for color, fragrance & super compact growth & flowering !

FRAGRANT MULTI-FLORAL MINI !

PHOTO NAME & DESCRIPTION SIZE PRICE

Phal. Formosa Blackberry PF $ 25 ’G781’ (2)

(Sogo Vivien x Happy Mark)

A charming multi-floral mini with a touch of each one of its parents ! Carrying the multi-mini branching habit & flower size of the candy-stripe Sogo Vivien parent, it also has the harlequin accents from Happy Mark, a Golden Peoker hybrid.

And adding an additional accent to these flowers, it has a rich rosy-red lip with flattened side-lobes to create a “big lip”

appearance. These produced amazingly

floriferous double spikes as first

bloomers in just 3” pots !

“BIG LIP” MULTI-FLORAL MINI !

Phal. Jia Ho Summer Love BS/PF $ 38 (2) ‘Little Pixie’ HCC/AOS

(Taisuco Micky x bellina)

Emboldened with mega-intensified dark splashing/flaring from its harlequin- influenced multi-floral mini pod parent, Phal. Taisuco Micky, this new mini carries the super thick waxy flower substance, rich color & light fragrance from its pollen parent, Phal. bellina ! Thick & super compact leaves allow it to be tucked easily into any collection. A real eye-catcher which spikes for us almost immediately after removing previously flowered spikes, meaning twice a year flowering. It can also continue to form buds on previously flowered still green spikes in addition to producing new !

Phal. Jiaho Blueberry SP/B $ 55 (2) (Samera fma. coerulea x equestris)

Phal. Kenneth Schubert SP $ 33 ’A06255’ (5)

$ 38 (pulcherrima fma. coerulea x violacea fma. SP coerulea) 2 spikes (3) A vast improvement over the coerulea form of Dor. pulcherrima as a result of NEW ! the influence of the pollen parent, the coerulea form of Phal. violacea ! The pollen parent has given these flowers a

long-lasting waxy substance and brought

the spike height down in perfect

proportion to the leaves. This particular FRAGRANT clone has taken on the great color of Phal. violacea var. coerulea with the floriferousness and deep purple lip of Dor. pulcherrima. If grown cooler & brighter the color is more saturated (lower right picture) – warmer & brighter produces a soft cerulean blue flower (upper left picture). A sequential bloomer which can continue to produce flowers on the same spike for months and months and months – we’ve had clients come back a year later reporting that this little “Ever Ready Bunny” is still flowering on its original spikes in addition to producing new !

MULTI-FLORAL MINI !

PHOTO NAME & DESCRIPTION SIZE PRICE

Phal. OX Happy Girl ‘OX 1592’ SP $ 33 (1) (OX X-Ray x OX Little King)

A select clone, for its rich color intensity, of this great new harlequin multi-floral

mini ! The flowers on this clone are around 2 ½”in size and will most likely not be much larger once the plants are fully mature. The harlequin spotting pattern is actually a rich blackened- burgundy and is quite a dramatic contrast against the pink and white background of the flower. In just 2.7” pots, our first order of these had already flowered once with 2 branching spikes & just 4 months later were already spiking again. Will flower easily twice a year !

BOLD NEW MINI HARLEQUIN !

Phal. Pure Moon ‘Green Pixie’ PF $ 28 (2) (Timothy Christopher x Brother Lawrence)

Creating a virtual cloud of soft yellow- green, this multi-floral mini is an amazingly vigorous grower ! We also like the roundness of its flowers as opposed

to the starry shape which is all too common on other yellow multi-floral miniatures. Its pollen parent, Brother Lawrence, adds substance to the flowers helping to provide a longer-lasting display. And the pod parent, Timothy Christopher, produces its amazing floriferousness. These just finished flowering, in just 2 ½” pots, with two branching spikes. As pictured on the top left from the Taiwan Show, it’s also capable of producing basal keikis from a fully mature mother plant which, when all flower at the same time, produce a spectacular display !

(Boldly Variegated form) SP/B $ 42 (Sogo Alice x Zuma’s Pixie) 2 spikes (6) Everyone loves Phal. Sogo Vivien for its multitudes of charming small candy- PF $ 28 striped flowers ! This particular clone, (2) bearing the same candy-stripe flowers, has a brand new element to set it apart

from all the other Sogo Viviens ~ dramatically variegated foliage, making it NEW attractive even when not in flower. No two plants will exhibit the same variegation & each leaf on each individual plant will be slightly different in the degree of its variegation depending on light & temperature when forming. Add to that its frequency of flowering, producing wonderfully compact readily branching & naturally cascading spikes, it becomes a striking display & treasure to enjoy year ‘round !

These just finished flowering three months ago, we cut off the spikes & were amazed that many are already spiking again!

VARIEGATED MULTI-MINI ! CAN FLOWER TWICE A YEAR !

PHOTO NAME & DESCRIPTION SIZE PRICE

Phal. Sogo Vivien ‘Wilson’ SP $ 48 (1) (Peloric flowers with the accent of Variegated Leaves !) BS $ 42 (1) (Sogo Alice x Zuma’s Pixie)

This particular clone of Sogo Vivien has NEW TWO new elements to set it apart from all the other Sogo Viviens ~ beautifully variegated foliage AND fabulously flat PELORIC flowers ! We brought two of these plants back bare-root & in flower, from the TIOS Show in March in hopes that one would last a few weeks to use as a sample for previously flowered stock. Amazingly, both plants were still in flower, readily adding more & more buds, almost 6 months later, despite their bare- root travel-related stress. Their delightfully compact branching & naturally cascading spikes create quite a striking display ~ these are nothing short of SIMPLY SENSATIONAL for their variegation & delightfully peloric flat flowers !

VARIEGATED PELORIC MULTI-MINI !

Phal. Sun Jye Diamond ‘KV39’ PF $ 22 (2) (Sun Prince x Freed Sandra)

Gracefully cascading spikes of rich glowing fuchsia-pink full round flowers, each flower presented perfectly on the inflorescences for the most dramatic

display ! As first bloomers in just 2.7” pots they were already showing off with two heavily flowered spikes, so we can only imagine the show they’ll provide when fully grown up with multitudes of branching cascading spikes. If we could only grow one solid dark pink multi-floral mini, this would be the one for its vibrantly rich color & abundant presentation !

PHOTO NAME & DESCRIPTION SIZE PRICE

Phal. Taida King’s Caroline PF $ 35 ’Taida Little Zebra Va’ AM/AOS (5)

(Ever-spring King x Ho’s Little Caroline) SP/B $ 42 We just received an AM/AOS from the 2 spikes American Orchid Society for this (5) particular clone ! Va is not a boo-boo on

the clonal name of these plants ~ Va stands for “Variant” ! These are a mega NEW SENSATIONAL clonal shift from the

original older clone of ‘Taida Little Zebra’ OLD: original ‘Taida Little Zebra’ (pictured at top). This fabulous shift has heavily emboldened the harlequin striping on the flowers, creating a stunning & dramatically dark presentation right to the tips of each segment. Same compact gently cascading spikes ~ same flowering habit ~ our photo doesn’t even begin to show how dramatically marked & emboldened the flowers really are. A “gutsy” flower with even heavier substance, these are head & shoulders more stunning than the original clone of ‘Taida Little Zebra’ & are one of our specially selected “must have” favorites, flowering twice a year ! (This clone was just selected as the “poster

child” for our Northeast Judging Center NEW: ‘Taida Little Zebra Va’ ! December 2018 Auction flier.)

Phal. Younghome Little Snow PF $ 22 (3) ‘M’

(Younghome Veilgem x Timothy Christopher)

One of the newest minis to be bred using

the famous Phal. Timothy Christopher,

producing small very round flowers on readily branching compact spikes. The particular charm of this little hybrid is its broad lip which is perfectly balanced against the pure white flowers. These

just finished flowering in 2 ½” pots with 2 branching spikes. For a multi-mini white,

this particular hybrid lasts forever ~ we had one plant in six show exhibits over a 3-month period & by the last show the flowers were still as fresh as the day they opened ~ a definite plus & a real little charmer !

Phal. OX Happy Honey Moon PF $ 28 ‘OX1749’ (1)

(OX Happy Girl x OX Crescent)

Top quality “big lip” harlequins are difficult to find, especially when they carry a contrasting dark handlebar “big lip” to set the whole flower off ! This particular clone produces generous cascades of 8cm (3”) flowers showing the influence of its pollen parent in its bold

solid-colored lip and its pod parent for the harlequin influence on its petals and

harlequin handlebar in the lip. Its lip is tucked right into the flower, leaving no gap between it & its lateral sepals. Too often we’ve seen this line of breeding show a “big lip” that drops way down before presenting itself, making for an awkward and unpleasing gap when the lip should be the focus. And we do love this solid dark pink lip with a white picotee & harlequin moustache which contrasts boldly against the white background of its flowers !

SELECT ONE-OF-A-KIND NOVELTY SEEDLINGS (posted on our Facebook page as they flower):

Many of our novelty or select seedlings will be flowering for the first time for us this spring into fall ~ and with Phal. bellina in the background of many, as first bloomers they will initially produce only 1-3 flowers on their first spikes. This type of breeding is extremely slow to grow to maturity due to the heavy influence of the slower-growing waxy Phal species in their background. With these waxy novelties, we leave any still-green spikes on the plants since they will most likely add more buds to these spikes in addition to producing new spikes at their next flowering. Some people choose to remove the initial spikes & give the energy back to the plant. However, we’ve never noticed (with novelty-type breeding) that it makes much difference in the overall vigor of the plant since their parentage carries the habit of retaining older spikes. Also, their flower form, color and size improve enormously with their 2nd & 3rd flowerings. But ~ the real bonus to owning a One-of-a-Kind plant is that you can give it your own clonal name !

We will post photos of these, as they flower, on our Facebook page ~ and being one-of-a-kind plants, they will be sold to the first person to reserve them. So keep any eye on our FB page or better yet, check the box on our FB page marked Notification. As a result, every time we post something new, you’ll be notified right away.

FRAGRANT MINIATURE CHINESE CYMBIDIUMS:

All the species listed below grow & flower easily WITH our Phals under the same light & WARMER temperature conditions since they are miniature growing Chinese species, requiring much lower light, less space & will grow under warmer temperatures than their larger cousins ~ they also don’t require the extreme chill of standard Cymbidiums in order to make their flower spikes and all tend to flower more than once a year, having no definite flowering season. One of these clones, ‘Tian Cao’, is just 6” in height – perfect for windowsill & under-lights growing !

We are particularly fond of the green & yellow flowering varieties with either delightfully compact or elegantly tall flower spikes. We’ve found that the traditional pale pink-burgundy colored flowers are just too muddy to stand out and make a statement.

The clone ‘Tian Cao’ also has the added charm of VARIEGATED FOLIAGE, meaning it’s attractive, even when not in flower ! Variegated foliage comes at a higher price because it’s greatly prized in Japanese & Chinese cultures, meaning the stronger the variegation, the more expensive the clone.

VARIEGATED FOLIAGE !

MINIATURE VANDACEOUS:

All these species & hybrids grow & flower easily WITH our Phals under the same light & temperature conditions since they are miniature growers, requiring much lower light than their larger-growing & flowering cousins. We’re growing them in deep small plastic baskets to allow their roots to dry slightly between waterings. In the winter we slip these little baskets into rose pots to allow the roots to continue to grow down from the basket, our own approach to “collaring” that Alan Koch of Gold Country Orchids does with his plants in clay pots. These are mostly miniature, & a few compact, growing species & hybrids, many of which will readily form basal keikis to become beautiful specimen miniatures producing multitudes of spikes at the same time on all of their mature growths. And most of them are also delightfully FRAGRANT !

MICRO MINI is that while it retains the miniature leaf habit of Den. jenkinsii, it took on the greater floriferousness of Den lindleyi, producing multitudes of large flowers on cascading spikes, producing more flowers and buds than Den. jenkinsii’s habit of 2-4 flowers per spike. Will flower any time, fall to spring, on its newly maturing growths !

NOTE: We’ve found this little hybrid does equally well whether grown in moss or a bark mix – and it readily makes the transition from moss to bark without

missing a beat.

GENEROUS MULTIPLE GROWTH PLANTS

PAPHIOPEDILUMS:*

Many of our Paphiopedilums are divisions of select plants from our collection ~ and are growing and flowering under the same conditions as our Phalaenopsis. Our particular favorites are miniatures from the parvi family, especially those with micranthum, armeniacum & delenatii as parents, and the larger growing, always grand & showy multiflorals, using philippinense or rothschildianum as parents. Pricing will vary according to the number of growths of each division/plant. Number of growths for each provided on request.

OTHER GENERA:

All the plants listed below grow & flower easily WITH our Phals under the same light & temperature conditions since most are miniature or micro-miniature growing species or hybrids, requiring much lower light than their larger cousins – they can put on quite a show for their compact size ! We also have divisions of several of our selected Cattleyas which we’ve grown & marked as exceptional from seedling populations – however, since we didn’t take pictures of many when they were flowering, we will only bring divisions in bud or flower due to the variation among several clones of the same select hybrid.

Bnfd. Gilded Tower SP/B/F $ 35 ’Yellow Star’ (6)

(Summit x Gilded Urchin)

4” pots Although we don’t normally grow, or even choose to carry, the more common & readily available mericlones of the NEW family, we have always loved this particular hybrid for its exotic presentation & amazingly long-lasting display of dramatic & contrasting colors ! Its color combination is quite extraordinary, olive green flowers accented with chocolate brown blotches. And as the perfect finishing accent, its golden-yellow lip is beautifully marked with rusty chestnut brown. The flowers can reach 4” in size with a fully mature

plant capable of producing more than 15 flowers per beautifully arching spike. Unlike many of the more common Oncidinae, this hybrid’s heavy substance flowers mean a much longer lasting display of its exotic presentation !

Cl. Rebecca Northen ‘Mikabi’ BS $ 38 (Grace Dunn x rosea) (1)

Both Cl. Grace Dunn, the pod parent, and

this hybrid are our two most favorite NEW Clowesias ! Not only do they stay small while producing a multitude of inflorescences, but they’re easy growers,

usually flowering in the spring. After they go deciduous, we keep them lightly moist to keep their pseudobulbs plump and to help support their next great flowering. We have found that they do much better for us growing in New Zealand moss than in bark since the moss provides nice even moisture for the best most consistent growth.

Dendrochilum wenzelii PF $ 42 ’Fishing Creek’ CCM/AOS (2)

NOTE: FALL FLOWERING FORM

(FRAGRANT MINIATURE Species)

Endemic to the Philippines, this is another great miniature Dendrochilum

producing multitudes of blazing red- orange flowers in the fall as opposed to most clones of this species which flower in the spring ! A vigorous grower alongside Phalaenopsis, this clone seems to easily double in size each year. Attractive upright narrow grass-like foliage produces inflorescences just packed with multitudes of flowers.

Fredclarkeara After Dark PF $ 45 4” pots ’Sunset Valley Orchids’ FCC/AOS (2)

(Mo. Painted Desert x Ctsm. Donna Wise)

Easily grown under Phalaenopsis Large conditions, this particular clone of multiple Fredclarkeara After Dark produces tawny growth green flowers, heavily spotted maroon plants over all ! Its heavy substance flowers

with a waxy texture lead to a long-lasting display. In 2005 this plant was the recipient of the Merritt W. Huntington Award as the most outstanding plant that had been granted an FCC/AOS. When awarded with its FCC, it was vigorously displaying 48 flowers on three pendant inflorescences, all emerging from just one pseudobulb ! A great exhibit plant and a stunner when in flower. These plants are now just completing their new leafy growths in preparation for fall/winter flowering.

Of special note: We shifted our exhibit plants of Fredclarkeara into New Zealand moss as an experiment to keep the deciduous growths plump & have noted that its even moisture supply helps keep

the older pseudobulbs from desiccating while giving increased vigor to the new growths. We have since moved all our stock of this type into NZ Moss & they’re thriving !

Galeopetalum Starburst SP/B/F $ 48 - 55 ’Parkside’ AM/AOS (6)

(Galeottia fimbriata x Zygo. Jumpin Jack) 2-3 spikes

We can’t say enough about this amazing new hybrid ! A great intergeneric 4” pots Zygopetalum hybrid bearing large rich waxy GREEN flowers, accented with

burgundy-brown barring and a broad

brilliant burgundy-pink waterfall patterned lip. An easy-grower alongside NEW Zygo. Advance Australia, under Phalaenopsis conditions, these plants make quite a statement with their dramatically large, colorful & delightfully fragrant flowers !

Onc. Alosuka ‘Claire’ NBS/BS $ 25 (2) (Memoria Kiyoshi Akatsuka x Aloha Sunshine)

If you’ve always loved the flowers of Onc. varicosum, Onc. Killer Bees and Onc. NEW Island’s Love but found them more difficult to grow, this is the perfect answer ! Onc. Alosuka is an easy-to- grow miniature bearing the same brilliant golden yellow lip accented with a dramatically contrasting almost-black blotch at its base. The flowers take after

its dramatically yellow & chocolate- accented Memoria Kiyoshi Akatusuka parentage with Aloha Sunshine adding ease of growth. This clone can flower twice a year when fully mature, producing multiple gently arching & branching inflorescences from each newly maturing pseudobulb, compact & readily branching on very young plants. Unlike Onc. Moon Shadow, its spikes are much more compact, branching freely on gently arching inflorescences & its flowers are rounder & fuller. Also, it’s black contrast is much darker & more dramatic than that of Onc. Moon Shadow.

Onc. (Gomesa) Moon Shadow PF $ 25 ’Tiger Tail’ AM/AOS (1)

(Cytocidium Hornet x Big Bee)

We’ve always loved the brilliant yellow flowers of Onc. (Gomesa) varicosa,

especially with its boldly contrasting deep chocolate petals ! However, under our growing conditions that particular species never did well at all. This little hybrid has so much Onc. varicosa in its

breeding background that it looks just like Onc. varicosa, yet it is infinitely easier to grow & flower under our Phalaenopsis conditions. Vigorously branching cascading spikes over miniature growths make this clone a sure winner !

MINIATURE !

Onc. Sweet Sugar B/F $ 38 ‘Lemon Drop’ HCC/AOS (2) (now Oncidesa) 4” pots (Aloha Iwanaga x Gomesa varicosa)

NEW This is our favorite clone of this hybrid for its concolor pure yellow flowers with no other accent in the lip, quite unlike other clones of this hybrid ! Capable of producing over sixty 4.2cm flowers & buds on a single branching spike, its heavy substance satiny flowers provide a long-lasting and amazingly floriferous display. These are already branching to create the ultimate show !

Pot. Young-Min Orange PF $ 38 ’Golden Satisfaction’ AM/AOS (1)

(Viola Nuggett x Lc. Trick or Treat) NEW

This spectacular clone of Pot. Young-Min Orange knocked all the AOS judges out with its amazingly floriferous display at the Taiwan International Orchid Show in 2010. It was awarded that year with over 150 flowers and buds borne on 20 inflorescences, a display of vivid fiery orange, capable of producing 7+ flowers per spike when fully mature. Two years later in 2012, when exhibited again in Taiwan at the show, it had virtually doubled in size & since then has quadrupled, being brought in to a recent show in a wheelbarrow ! This vigorous & extremely compact grower can flower twice a year with long-lasting waxy & lightly FRAGRANT flowers, their orange intensifying as the flowers mature. Grows & flowers happily under lower light Phalaenopsis conditions ~ the pleasure of a brightly colored Cattleya without the large plant size !

MINI-COMPACT GROWER !

DIVISION OF OUR MOTHER PLANT

Propetalum La Jolla Delight SP/B $ 38 - 42 ‘Hilo Orchid Farm’ AM/AOS 1-2 spikes (Promenaea stapelioides x Zygo. Kiwi Dusk)

JUST AWARDED ! JUST IN !

We just had our plant of this clone

awarded an AM/AOS at the MontrealExpo Show last March ! An enormous improvement over prior makes of this hybrid, due in large part to the dark & heavily suffused clones of its parents. A wonderfully compact grower, standing just 8-10” in height, these plants will grow happily under low to medium light, right next to Phalaenopsis, and their waxy flowers can last for weeks. They can flower any time of the year in response to the onset of new growths, &

we’ve had several flower twice within just

two months so they have no particular Our awarded plant ~ the flower is so glossy flowering season ! They will grow that the flash is reflecting back ! Sepals & equally well under intermediate petals have a green base but are so heavily temperatures although we grow them just overlaid with dark burgundy that they appear a bit warmer with our Phalaenopsis. solid, almost black, in color. Keep moist to help maintain their plump pseudobulbs but do not allow the medium to become soggy.

Psychopsis Mendenhall BS $ 45 ’Hildos’ FCC/AOS (1)

(Butterfly x papilio) Multiple growth Producing stately inflorescences of large plant “butterfly-like” 5” flowers, this hybrid will continue to add buds to each spike it

creates, sometimes for as long as seven years, one flower at a time ! A well-grown plant can produce over 20 inflorescences

& create a spectacular display. These

plants will easily spike for the first time in

just 3” pots. They resent being repotted so we always just shift the entire root ball, bark included, to the next larger size & fill in around the perimeter with fresh bark mix. They also don’t mind getting a little dry between waterings. An easy, forgiving & showy grower & bloomer, even under lower light Phalaenopsis conditions.

Soph. cernua BS $ 38 (2) (Micro-Mini Species)

Possible 4N (tetraploid) population !

An absolutely adorable micro-miniature NEW species from the Cattleya alliance ! Easily grown in small spaces under Phalaenopsis conditions, this little species can flower several times a year on multi-growth plants. When their leaves are showing a darker burgundy-

red rim, they are getting the maximum

amount of light. These are growing in net pots since they like to dry slightly between watering. Avoid keeping them too moist in the winter by just lightly watering the surface of the pot rather than thoroughly drenching them. Ideal for under-lights, windowsill & space- challenged growing !
