Kit Collection FAQs

Does GPL offer classes on kit use? The Studio focuses on offering access to equipment and supplies so that patrons can start their own, self-guided, making journey. For this reason, classes are not our primary focus. However, weekly activities, scheduled DIY programs, and demonstrations from makers in our community will be available. Stay tuned to our events calendar to discover these opportunities.

We have also made available all kit user guides and instruction manuals for your convenience. Library staff will be on hand to get you started and will be happy to guide you to additional resources, online tutorials, and classes available through Lynda.com.

Can I check out a kit if I don’t have a library card? A valid library card is needed to check out a kit, BUT if you don’t have a card, it’s no problem! Visit our 2nd Floor Help Desk to check out kits using a guest pass. We’ll just need to hang on to your picture ID while you’re using the resources in The Studio.

You must be 13+ years of age, or accompanied by an adult, to check out a Kit for use in The Studio.

Are kits free to use? Completely! Kits are free to use in the space, and patrons may take home the work they create with some exceptions. These exceptions are noted in each kit.

Can I reserve a kit? Kits and community equipment are available on a first come, first serve basis. They are not available to be reserved.

Are all the supplies I need for a project in a kit? If you're interested in completing a project beyond the scope of our kit offerings, we definitely encourage you to bring your own supplies. For example, a patron could make use of our leatherworking tools and self-healing mat, but they would need to bring their own leather and other supplies to complete the project.
