May 20, 2020 Dear Mr. President, We are writing to ask for your help on an issue that threatens American jobs and outdoor traditions. As anglers, hunters and outdoor enthusiasts we are extremely concerned about a massive open-pit gold and copper mine that a Canadian mining company is proposing to build in the Bristol Bay region of Alaska. The efforts to develop the massive mine in this unique area threaten more than 14,000 American jobs, a fishery worth more than $1.5 billion dollars annually and a sport fishing and hunting paradise. It is considered a world-class fishing destination, which even your son and grandson have enjoyed. If built, the mine would decimate many miles of streams and up to 10 billion tons of mine waste would have to be stored without accident behind earthen dams, forever. The mine is relentlessly opposed by most Alaskans, as well as anglers, hunters and other outdoor recreation businesses from around the country. Preventing this mine from moving forward would protect American jobs, safeguard the culture of rural America, and ensure that our national outdoor heritage prospers. If Theodore Roosevelt were alive today, he would draw the line and stop this mine from jeopardizing so many things Americans value. Please stand up for American businesses, jobs and a hunting and fishing paradise by denying a permit for the proposed Pebble mine. Sincerely, 31,502 American Hunters, Anglers, and Outdoor enthusiasts. Mollie Bernhoft (Anchorage, AK) Kathryn Hunter (South Lake Tahoe, CA) Jacobe Mckittrick (Glenwood Springs, CO)

  • Annagh 2006.Pdf
Christmas Greetings nce again as winter sets in and Christmas approaches, we are reminded that it is O"Annagh Magazine" time again. I welcome this edition of Annagh and I con- gratulate the editorial committee on their commitment and dedication, and thank them for being so generous with their time and talents in producing year after year a magazine of the highest quality. It is great to see so many articles by so many people on a wide variety of topics, and I’m sure Annagh will provide many hours of enjoy- able reading for Ballyhaunis people both at home and abroad. Last August saw the passing of Canon Patrick Costelloe, who for thirty- two years played a very important role in the life of Ballyhaunis. He was the founder, and for sixteen years the first Principal of St. Patrick’s College, and after that became Parish Priest in Ballyhaunis, a post he held for a further sixteen years until his retire- ment in 1993. May his gentle soul rest in the peace of the Lord. This year marks an important milestone both for our parish and the dio- cese with the holding of the Diocesan Assembly, which was a consultative process to plan for the future of the diocese. During the year many meetings were held throughout the diocese, in fact it is estimated that over 2,500 people attended meetings preparing for the Assembly. It is called a "Future Full of Hope" and we pray that the implementation of its findings will give hope to all the people of our diocese, and strengthen our commitment to our faith and our church as we move ahead.

Like it or not; longterm this state or the one in the North - cannot afford to deliver citizen-based services to a rural or sparse population. Retail reports for Christmas suggest that we shopped more online than in our shopping centres or high streets. When was the last time you saw a local club or team sponsored by Amazon or Google? The notion of Local Authorities being continually funded by business rates from tills and car parking is quaint as very shortly all our parking will be free and we will be shopping like the French and Californians at big out of town malls.
