6 ICHOLLS Lady Colonels Head Coach

MARK COOK • Head Coach With 24 years of men and women’s coaching experience, third-year head coach Mark Cook definitely knows a thing or two about winning. In fact, before arriving at Nicholls, Cook accumulated more than 130 wins at Dillard University in New Orleans. Two years ago, Cook brought Nicholls to the South- land Conference Tournament, which marked the first time since 2001 the Lady Colonels qualified for postseason action. Cook, a 1983 Wichita State University graduate, coached at Dillard for the 10 years before joining Nicholls. After taking over as Dillard’s head coach in 1998, Cook saw his teams finding a wealth of success on the court. Before this season, his previous three squads all advanced to the NAIA National Tournament. Cook, who posted three-straight Gulf Conference Champi- onships (2001-2003), led his team to a Gulf Coast Conference Tournament Championship in 2003 and was named Gulf Coast Conference Coach of the Year in 2001 after his Dillard team ad- vanced to the Sweet 16 of the NAIA National Tournament. Prior to his stint at Dillard, Cook served as an assistant coach at Louisiana Tech (1993-94), Mount Saint Mary College (1986-89), Marist College (1984-85) and the University of Mis- souri at Kansas City (1983-84). The well-traveled Cook has participated in coaching clinics In addition, Cook was also a head coach at Wiley College in Jamaica and St. Martin, not to mention summer camps with (1989-93) and served as an administrative assistant for two legendary coaches Mike Krzyzewski and Rick Pitino, among years at his alma mater, Wichita State (1981-1983). others.
