Frankston Peninsula Cricket Club 2 Annual Report 2017/2018 President’s Report I acknowledge the difficulty presented to the playing group in Season 2017- 18 with the in-season construction of the new practice amenity. Having to travel to Keysborough week on week to access practice facilities was no doubt very challenging for all. I thank players and coaches for their coordination, patience and tolerance during this period. I know we are all excited to see the new training facility in operation. I also extend our appreciation for the access facilitated for us by the Skye Cricket Club and Haileybury College. Providing the best facilities has always been a key focus, not only during our period of Premier Cricket, our history supports a continuous improvement charter across generations. I have high admiration for the committee of 1938 that commenced the process to install the first turf wicket in the region at the Cranbourne Road, Frankston reserve (now the site of PARC), which was initially used for the 1940/41 season. This initiative is no doubt the forerunner of where we are today. Continued strategic planning by the Club will hopefully result in further improved facilities in partnership with all levels of Government, Cricket Victoria & Cricket Australia will benefit greatly the current & future generations of players at our Club. The continued hosting of Women’s national games, as well regional carnivals, while inconvenient at times, enhances our opportunity to achieve funding grants to further develop our precinct for the sport we all love. Frankston Council continues to provide a strong commitment to elite club sport in the municipality, we have benefitted greatly from this over our time in Premier Cricket. Butler Oval, as well as the East Oval continues to provide excellent conditions for Cricket. I commend the efforts of our hard working committee ensuring good governance and effective support for all our key operation areas. I particularly acknowledge and thank those people who took on the mighty challenge of assisting with volunteer tasks, ensuring we stayed at the top of the ladder for service provision to our loyal group of supporters and visitors. Our Club had strong representation at all levels of elite cricket, from International, State, BBL, underage State and Pathway. Congratulations to all for being great ambassadors for FPCC at all these levels. Congratulations to all players and volunteers acknowledged at the presentation night. A special thank you also to Raelene Lavery and Deb Gibbs for taking on the Thursday night meals in what was a fragmented season. Thank you to our major sponsor Buildsafe Building Insurances, Phil Graf and his team are fantastic supporters of our Club over a long period; we express the Board’s gratitude for his continued support. The Frankston RSL, have also been excellent long term partners supporting our Club over our journey. Mark Dunsford, Dunford Financial, and all special and loyal sponsor partners, we appreciate their ongoing involvement. I predict the changes to the Premier Cricket and Pathway fixture formats will provide us with a vibrant and exciting season in 2018/19. The playing group has the challenge to develop a diverse package of skills to meet the demand of the new formats that will present across all of the games which should excite everyone. In conclusion, I take this opportunity to encourage all those associated in some way with the HEAT to become even more involved and believe, with passion, in our future. Dennis Prendergast President Frankston Peninsula Cricket Club 3 Annual Report 2017/2018 General Manager’s Report It is with pleasure that I submit Frankston Peninsula Cricket Club’s Annual Report for Season 2017/2018. The process of compiling the Annual Report (my eighth report) provides a great opportunity to assemble a record of the achievements and records of the club from the recent season, my seventh year in this role. I must commend the valuable contribution from our President, Dennis Prendergast. He puts so much time into our club, managing many key relationships with our important stakeholders. Dennis has recently announced his resignation as delegate to Cricket Victoria, an important role in which he has represented the interests of FPCC for 27 years. The last twelve months have seen a considerable amount of meetings with all levels of government to lobby the needs of our club and cricket in the region. Whilst progress is being made, there is still hurdles to clear in order to see the investment achieved to provide the necessary facilities to turn Jubilee Park into the Regional Hub for Cricket in the South East Country Region. Recent announcements from Frankston City Council are very much welcomed by the club, where their support of the proposed Cricket Regional Hub and the Jubilee Park Stadium Redevelopment have been demonstrated with funding announcements. The next step is to ensure support for these projects from State and Federal Governments, to attract funding to allow these projects to come to fruition. This will provide the Jubilee Park precinct with the capacity to host higher profile matches and events, along with the capacity to host more regional and development matches than what is currently possible. A key to this is additional female friendly change rooms, to enable male and female matches to be held at Jubilee Park at the same time. A key is also the redevelopment of a third oval with a turf wicket which will enable the introduction of female FPCC teams and extra junior development opportunities. Training Facility The construction and completion of our new training facility, which was delayed for 18 months due to a number of factors out of our control, was a highlight of last season. All of the short term inconvenience of sub standard training facilities at Jubilee Park and the challenges of travelling off site for training were soon forgotten once the players were able to resume training at home in February. A huge thanks to Frankston City Council for delivering the project, and to Frank Faro from Smartgrass who constructed the project, executed to an excellent standard. The facility is innovative where the additional Northern runups will in effect double the capacity of the turf practice wickets, which previously struggled to meet the training needs of the club, pathway squads and other cricket groups who are invited to use the only turf training facility in the region. By being fully enclosed with roof netting, it provides a much needed safety measure that will remove the risk of parking in the nearby car park or playing in the nearby playground. Administration As in previous years, Cricket Victoria and Cricket Australia provided funds and assistance to enable the Club to manage its administration responsibilities in accordance with Cricket Victoria’s Criteria Assessment for all Premier Cricket Clubs. Cricket Victoria’s and Cricket Australia’s support is greatly appreciated. Frankston Peninsula Cricket Club 4 Annual Report 2017/2018 Coaching Keith Jansz fitted back seamlessly into the club as Senior Coach, to quickly engage the playing group into his methodology and tactics. Keith invests so much time and energy into his role, making sure every fine detail is considered before each training session or match. Keith was supported by a quality group of coaches including Darren Groves, Tim Spear, Malinga Bandara, David McClean, Mark O’Sullivan and Ben Frith in a new Strength and Conditioning role. Tim, David and Mark will not continue in their roles for the upcoming season. We sincerely thank them for all of their service to the club over a long period of time. They have been responsible for the recruitment and development of the majority of the playing list currently with FPCC. Their understanding of the game and the networks in region have been crucial for the club. As announced at the Presentation Night, FPCC is delighted welcome Dale Christie to the club as our new High Performance Assistant Coach. Dale will closely assist in the preparation and implementation of training activities including pre-season. His role will also closely focus on the development of our future 1st XI players, along with mentoring the younger pace bowlers in the 3rd XI and 4th XI. Dale will also play a key role in managing the intensive development squad program throughout May and June. Dale brings an impressive level of passion and enthusiasm to the role, along with an extensive amount of cricket experience, having spent 18 years in Premier Cricket (Kingston Hawthorn, Prahran and Monash Tigers).
