Topics of study will be tailored to individual student interests, within a loosely structured curriculum. JEWELRY: FINE METAL Experienced Beginner CREATIVE STONESETTING [JF2011] Joy Raskin Saturday/Sunday, June 4 - 5, 10a - 4p Tuition: $275 If you have ever wanted to know the best style and type of setting for different types of stones, then this workshop is for you. Students will be taught various types of settings, from the basic bezel mounts to more elaborate tube bezel settings, prong setting for round, oval, , trillion, emerald-cut faceted stone and more. Flush setting to set small stones in ring bands will also be covered. (This workshop will not include pave or illusion settings.) Discussions will include design and function as well as the tools of the blacksmith shop, including what to look for when buying and how to make some of your own. Whether you’re a rank beginner or need to improve your current skills, you will be guided through proper tool selection, sharpening, safety and technique to allow you to realize the vast possibilities of turning. WOOD: WOODTURNING Experienced Beginner VASES AND SMALL HOLLOW FORMS [WT0611] Carl Ford Saturday/Sunday, June 11 - 12, 9a - 5p Tuition: $310 Turning small vases is a great low stress way to learn how to create hollow forms and to experiment with shapes and surface decorations. In this weekend workshop open to beginners with some experience and intermediate turners, students will learn how to easily turn and hollow out small hollow forms. The workshop will focus on using small Ellsworth style hollowing tools with Don Derry style capture tool rest, and Carl Ford style laser pointers. Topics will include: What makes a form easy or hard to hollow; Wood selection; Hollowing tools; Procedure and tips for hollowing. Each student should complete 2-3 small vases. All hollow tools with custom laser pointers and captured tools rests with be supplied by instructor. A materials fee of $20 will be payable to the instructor at the beginning of class.
