Mindful Ways to Enjoy the Holiday Season 1. Set an intention for this holiday season. It can be as broad or specific as you wish, but take a moment to consider how you’d like to spend this time and where you want to focus your time and energy. This simple action creates awareness and will help you prioritize! 2. Acknowledge your entrenched holiday habits. The force of habit (also known as our habit energy) is the momentum that propels us down familiar paths in life. Even when we’ve acknowledged the need to change our habits, it’s easy to stay in autopilot. Change requires a conscious effort. You likely have specific holiday season patterns, such as rushing, over-committing, overspending or over-consuming. What else? Without blaming yourself, look at these habits and ask: Do these habits serve me well? 3. Practice compassionate listening with friends and family. In order to truly appreciate the time we have with loved ones, we must be fully present. The perfect time to practice compassionate listening is when it’s most difficult to remain present — when we have disagreements with a loved one or strong emotions have built up over time. When we leave our body and disconnect our consciousness from the present moment, we miss valuable lessons, connections and understanding. Remember to observe whatever emotions arise and to treat yourself with loving compassion, too. Diners, Diners, and More Diners! Lansdale is not particularly known for one specific thing but what you will find is a plethora of local diners. All over Lansdale and Montgomeryville, we have tons and tons of diners to chose from. From diners that only serve breakfast and lunch, to some serving 24-hours a day, there is probably a diner here for Can you believe Zoto’s Diner has been around since 1973? you! A popular diner right by Hudson Estates is Zoto’s Diner off Bethlehem Pike. This diner has such a fun history! Zoto’s Family Restaurant has been family owned and operated since 1973. Steve and Nick Zoto had the diner built in New Jersey, then it was transported to Pennsylvania by truck in six pieces. In 1983, the Zotos hired John Karistinos as chef. He is still making the same delicious recipes over 20 years later! John, also known as Yanni, recommends some classic recipes, such as the famous Summer Gazpacho Soup and the popular Scallops a la Yanni. The Diner was not always so large. In the late ‘80s, they added a dining room and a banquet room. The seating capacity increased from 150 to 250 people. In the early ‘90s, Zoto’s Diner was one of the first restaurants to go “smoke-free.” In 2002, Nick retired and Steve’s wife, JoAnne, became his partner. For the past six years, their daughter, Nikki, has been the General Manager. Zoto’s Family Restaurant truly is a family establishment and they would love to have any Hudson Estates’ residents stop by! Another awesome, local diner right by Hudson Estates is Tigers Family Restaurant. Tigers is located off Broad Street and has been around since the ‘90s. They are loved by many locals and have had returning customers for decades! They also have been extremely careful and have made their diner extremely safe during this Covid pandemic. Beethoven’s Greatest Hits This year celebrates the 250th birth anniversary of Ludwig van Beethoven, one of the most masterful composers in classical music history. From his career of over 700 works, here are some of his most beloved: Symphony No. 5 — The piece known as Beethoven’s Fifth is one of the world’s most important and famous symphonies, partly due to its dramatic four-note opening. Symphony No. 9 — His last symphony, written after he had gone completely deaf, continues to inspire. In the fourth and final movement, vocalists sing the lyrics of Friedrich Schiller’s poem “Ode to Joy.” Violin Concerto — Although not successful during Beethoven’s lifetime, his Violin Concerto in D major is now a popular piece for violinists and considered one of the composer’s most beautiful works. Symphony No. 3 — This triumphant piece, called the “Eroica” Symphony, marks a groundbreaking turn in Beethoven’s career—-and classical music as a whole—-when his work became more personal and emotional. Piano Sonata No. 14 — The slow, haunting first movement of this piece, nicknamed the “Moonlight Sonata,” is instantly recognizable, thanks to its use in films and television. “Für Elise” — This short, delicate piano composition wasn’t discovered until 40 years after Beethoven’s death, but is now an iconic example of classical music and is often a standard for beginner piano players. Mini Golf, Ice Cream, Driving Range, and More! Freddy Hill Farms is a staple of Lansdale and is fun for all ages. It has an awesome back story and is just good old-fashioned family fun. Freddy Hill began as a family business in 1972 as a dairy store belonging to the Seipt family who had a single mission: To offer farm fresh milk and ice cream to area families. Originally founded by Seipt family members Fred and Joanne Seipt and their three sons: Vernon, Matt, The beautiful mini golf course and Bill, Freddy Hill remains family owned and managed. After learning how to make their own ice cream at Penn State University’s creamery, the Seipts expanded their ice cream offerings and began making ice cream cakes. The ice cream sales soon outgrew the small space and a full, sit down ice cream parlor was built in 1988. In 1991, the family opened Freddy’s Family Fun Center. Just a short walk up a sidewalk takes customers to a picnic area, and the dairy store and ice cream parlor. You can visit Freddy Hill Farms for a delicious ice cream cone or even bring home some ice cream! If you aren’t hungry for food but for fun, they have two beautiful miniature golf courses, a scenic driving range, batting cages, and even a pro shop. There is plenty of fun to be had at Freddy Hill Farms! 651 Montgomery Glen Drive Lansdale, PA 19446
