Our goal in producing this bulletin is to keep Sustainable Caucasus stakeholders, partners, beneficiaries and interested third parties informed about our work and its progress. Every six months we will bring to your attention the latest news, key facts and developments of the Sustainable Caucasus programme. The Forum’s overall goal and long-term objective is to support regional cooperation and joint research among the Caucasus scientists and thereby promote evidence-based decision-making for sustainable development. 4 NATIONAL INITIATIVE GROUPS: GEORGIA, ARMENIA, AZERBAIJAN In 2019, the first national workshops developing and planning regional dialogue and cooperation in Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan took place, bringing together the scientists and practitioners working and interested in the fields of disaster risk management, climate change adaptation and overall sustainable mountain development. The meeting covered the overview of the Caucasus Regional Research Agenda (C-RRA) and the introduction of the advocacy roadmap developed for strengthening the cooperation between academia and practitioners. The meeting resulted in the creation of National Initiative Groups (NIG) in Georgia, Azerbaijan and Armenia responsible for strengthening advocacy of the science-policy interface, ensuring scientifically justified policy and decision making and C-RRA promotion.     International Methodological Conference Tbilisi State University, Center for Social Science Setting up the PhD Programs in the Context of Bologna Process Tbilisi, 25-26 June 2005 Conference Report & Memorandum A joint conference of the Tbilisi State University and Center for Social Sciences was held on 25- 26 June 2005. Aim of the conference was elaboration of an action plan for the development of PhD programs in Georgia. Preamble According to the Law on Higher Education, doctoral programs should be introduced in the Georgian higher education institutions as a third level of higher education from 2007-2008. Georgia joined Bologna process in May 19, 2005 and thus became a member of the European Higher Education Area. Considering European standards of teaching and research, setting up the third level of higher education and development of doctoral programs in Georgia means development of a principally new type of educational activity. Goal of an international conference “Setting up the PhD Programs in the Context of Bologna Process” (TSU, 2005) was on the one hand, analyze of current situation in Georgia, and on the other hand, to share existing experience of American and European Doctoral education tradition. Prior to the conference, with the support of the Center for Social Sciences (CSS, Tbilisi) and Open Society Institute (OSI, Budapest), work on the project, which envisages analyzing of the problems connected with introduction of Doctoral Studies and working out of the relevant recommendations, started.     Profile of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University Founded in the beginning of the 20th century, Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU) is the first Georgian University and the first higher education institution in the South Caucasus. Historically, TSU has had a mission to support the development of a democratic society and foster affable relations with the international community via its students’ outputs and through international educational, scientific cooperation.
