In his first competition since helping team USA win the bronze medal at the Olympic Games, Hagerty won the all-around at the 2009 TWinter Cup Challenge held at the Las Vegas Sports Center in Las Vegas, Nev. on Feb. 7. His two-day combined total score of 177.900 points earned him the Winter Cup Challenge title. Hagerty was followed by Danell Leyva of Miami, Fla., and Universal Gymnastics, in second and Sho Nakamori of Albany, Calif. and Stanford University, in third with scores of 176.350 and 176.100, respectively. The individual event champions were: Hagerty, floor exercise (30.500) and parallel bars (tie, 30.050); Tim McNeill of Falls Church, Va./University of California Berkeley, pommel horse (30.350); David Sender of Arlington Heights, Ill./ Stanford University, still rings (30.650) and vault (32.200); Leyva, parallel bars (tie, 30.050); and Paul Ruggeri III of Manlius, N.Y./University of Illinois, horizontal bar (30.500). The event was a huge success with great and enthusiastic crowds at all of the competitions and live coverage on NBC of the men’s and women’s finals competitions. The U.S. Women named Shawn Johnson and Nastia Liukin to the Olympic Team and named 10 additional gymnasts to make up the Olympic Training Squad which will attend a selection camp in Houston, Texas, on July 16-20 where the final members of the team will be nominated to the U.S. Olympic Team pending USOC approval.
