2021 Yearbook The APEA is a UK based organisation, drawing membership from all quarters of the petroleum industry, including Regulators from National and Local Government Authorities, Oil Companies, Equipment Manufacturers and Suppliers, Service and Installation Organisations, Training Establishments and many others. It is seen to be unique in representing all sides of the industry and in providing a forum for debate and the generation of technical guidance. The APEA was founded in 1958. Some 30 petroleum-licensing enthusiasts started the Association in the West Midlands and their objectives still hold true today: • The advancement of scientific and technical knowledge • The supply and interchange of information • Uniformity of standards interpretation and application Today the organisation has over 1100 members spread across many countries all over the world. In the UK and Europe we encourage organisation of branches. Currently there are eight branches in the UK. Members receive a quarterly magazine The Bulletin and also this combined desk diary/Yearbook free of charge. The association also publishes technical guidance, runs training courses covering a wide range of subjects, provides technical advice and runs APEA Live, the industry conference, exhibition and awards dinner. The Bulletin includes news, press releases, features of technical and legal interest, covering all aspects of petroleum and explosives and training and branch information. It is a comprehensive guide full of contact and reference information and an essential tool for your business or profession. The Yearbook continues to be a reliable source of information for companies, authorities and any individual looking to find a contact within our industry. This information is also available on our website where you can also download copies of The Bulletin, download references and technical articles and search for contact information. The last year has been a very challenging year for all in the industry however the indications are that the APEA continues to go from strength to strength. I am looking forward to discovering what the next year will bring. I am sure it will be challenging in a better way, as the industry moves and changes with acquisitions and mergers both of retail sites and key suppliers to the industry. The Blue Book is our industry’s major publication and provides information on the design, construction, modification, maintenance and decommissioning of facilities for the storage and dispensing of vehicle fuels at filling stations. The information is largely based on experience from the UK, and makes reference to legislation applicable in the UK. For guidance, those outside the UK should comply with the relevant rules and laws applicable in their country. The Blue Book is now used in many countries around the world. Our training courses continue to be very well attended and remain the benchmark for our industry. We have many overseas delegates that attend our courses at the various locations in the UK. We also continue to see an increased demand for bespoke courses that are tailored to the individual needs of both local authorities and industry bodies. Our technical committee continues to receive and answer queries from many organisations, in regard to the various aspects of the safe storage and dispensing of petroleum. The quarterly Bulletin is a great source of information and includes up to date articles relating to the industry, together with an insight into new products and ideas. I would like to thank all the APEA committee members for all their time and effort and their good work. The APEA’s annual conference exhibition and awards dinner will again be held in Milton Keynes. With its technical presentations and gala awards dinner, it regularly attracts large numbers and is regarded as the leading event in our industry. I would like to thank all our corporate sponsors and all those who have supported the APEA and the Yearbook over the years. The APEA is committed to upholding the aims of the Association and to facilitate the interchange of information, the advancement of scientific and technical knowledge and uniformity of standards. The APEA provides a platform for discussion and debate where all members can engage in the subject of their choice, as well as having these views presented to technical bodies going forward to standards contributions. I would like to remind the various industry stakeholders, local authorities, as well as organisations, to send their colleagues and associates to attend their local APEA branch meetings. The APEA local branches are the rock of our association and the meetings they hold are extremely informative and provide an excellent opportunity for networking.
