Biography

Brian Anderson is the Director of Cultural Heritage in the Hong Kong office of Purcell, one of the world’s leading architectural conservation consultancies (ranked no. 1 in the 2017 World Architecture 100 (Heritage List)). Acknowledged as one of the most experienced built heritage practitioners in Hong Kong, he has an extensive portfolio of architectural conservation projects throughout the world, including those at UNESCO World Heritage Sites. His reputation and experience in built heritage conservation have led to his appointment by the HKSAR Government as the project director for a number of landmark conservation projects, including the revitalisation of the Central Police Station Compound (), which won the top honour (Award of Excellence) in the 2019 UNESCO Awards for Cultural Heritage Conservation. He has been regularly invited by universities to lecture on the professional practice aspect of built heritage conservation, and has served as the External Examiner of the BA(Conservation) programme at The University of Hong Kong.

The various built structures that comprise the cemetery are built of Portland Stone and many areas are faced with Shanghai Plaster. Natural erosion and some previous poor attention to detail had caused significant loss of visual and in some cases, physical integrity. Our proposals included developing specifications for the Shanghai Plaster repairs that were matched to the existing work. 2014-2015 Project leader for trial façade repair of the former Burma Railways Headquarters, Yangon, for Prime Estate Development Limited. The facades are built of brick and Laterite and suffering from salt contamination and associated varying degrees of decay.
