Tobin Eppard

Toby has been tenured at since 1986 where he started in the Quality Control - Microbiology Department. He has worked in many technical disciplines in the areas of Quality Management, Production, Research Pilot Brewing, Brewing Technology Training, Research and Development, Product Development/Innovation, Corporate Brewing and is frequently consulted within the international community with regard to Yeast and Fermentation processes.

Toby has earned undergraduate degrees in Microbiology and Chemistry and also has earned graduate degrees in Operations Management and Marketing. He has also completed the Master Brewer’s program at the University of California at Davis successfully completing the IBD (Institute of Brewing and Distilling) Diploma and Master Brewer qualifications.

Toby is actively involved with the Institute of Brewing and Distilling in the UK as a result, as a member of the Board of Examiners and currently fulfilling the role of examiner for Paper I, and II for the Diploma in Brewing qualifications. In addition, Toby was the President of the American Society of Brewing Chemists (ASBC) Local Section 8 from 1998 to 2003, and as well served on the Executive Board for the Rocky Mountain Section of the Master Brewers’ Association of the Americas (MBAA) as co-technical chair from 2004 to 2010. Toby also serves on the MBAA Education Committee, and Higher Education Committee, which has most recently established the expectations for undergraduate work, and validation of “quality” in content, for universities offering brewing programs.

Most recently he is assigned to the MillerCoors Corporate Brewing team as a Senior Staff Brewer and Manager of Brewing Management Development, supporting the technical scientific and operational needs of the MillerCoors brewery operations in North America and as an international consultant for both Coors and Miller family of brands for SABMiller and MolsonCoors.

MillerCoors/Adolph Coors/ MolsonCoors BREWING COMPANY EXPERIENCE

November 2008 – Present: Senior Staff Brewer MillerCoors Corporate Brewing, Brewing Research, Innovation and Quality • Responsible for providing support to all supply chain breweries with regard to departmental goals established by each brewery – inclusive of all brewing and leadership assets • Implementation of trial brewing to improve or to investigate improvement strategies and efforts • Implementation of new brands/products to target breweries • Responsible for the development of, and process specifications for the MillerCoors supply chain • Leadership and management of rotational development program which includes direct reports and recruitment of candidates for brewing operations leadership team(s) • Linkage of MillerCoors strategies to that of the parent corporations which include South African Breweries (SABMiller) and MolsonCoors International.

October 2007 – October 2008: Development Brewer US MolsonCoors Research and Development • Responsible for new product development and implementation of any improvement in current brand portfolio (Coors, MolsonCoors and Coors Brewer’s International). • Development work includes close working relationship with brand marketing team, recognized to be the “expert” on Coors/ and MolsonCoors product designs. Specific to process and product attributes as well as representation of brands to distributor and target consumer groups.

April 2003 – October 2007: Manager of the Coors Brewery Institute Learning and Development • Responsible to create vision of brewing technical training learning solutions through Analysis, Design, Develop, Implement, Evaluate and Track (ADDIET) for all North American Brewing assets including ALL areas of brewing and packaging materials through warehousing operations. • Outputs include internationally recognized credentials including the: General Certificate in Brewing, General Certificate in Packaging, Diploma in Brewing, Diploma in Packaging, Master Brewer and Coors sponsored Practical Brewer Certification – sponsored and given through the Institute of Brewing and Distilling – London, UK by examination. • Coordinate, teach, train and mentor students as well as recruitment of internal and external candidates using established H/R practices for development including undergraduate and graduate internship programs for Coors Brewing Operations.

July 2005 – January 2006: Business Area Manager, Maltings and Co-Products Golden Business Unit, Process Operations • Responsible for all aspects of Coors Malthouses and Co-Products areas for a 23MM barrel output brewing asset including: budgeting and cost control, planning, capital projects, maintenance, safety and line operations with an annual output of ~530MM pounds of finished barley malt. Brewing Co-Products conversion assets producing wet and pelletized spent brewer’s grains, spray dried brewer’s yeast and fuel grade ethanol resulting in an annual profit center of approximately $9MM USD. • Lead and manage three direct mid-level reports and ~55 line operations employees Tobin L. December 1999 – March 2003: Manager - Quality, Research and Development Brewing Process Research and Development and Pilot Brewery teams • Responsible for all aspects of R&D project work, budgeting, coaching, and accountability through project management discipline and H/R policies for 13 professional research staff direct reports and additional development interns. • Manage the Pilot Brewery production facility team utilizing operations management skills and techniques including repair, maintenance and upkeep.

January 1998 - December 1999: Product Design Scientist/ Brand Design Leader Brewing Research and Product Development • Responsible for all research functions and product and process specifications for the Coors Light Brand including liaison with Brand Marketing and Operations. • Responsible for and development of test product formulations for Coors Light and Coors Original Brands. • Facilitated development of consumer driven specifications utilizing multi-site sensory research via annual product category surveys (Coors Consumer Audit). • Responsible for development and facilitation of training strategies for Coors Operations department, including Pilot Brewing and extended training programs.

June 1997 - January 1998: Senior Research Brewer Brewing Research and Development, Pilot Brewery • Responsible for the production of over 400 R&D product and process tests and projects utilizing the Pilot Brewery production facility. • Development and implementation of a “Self Directed Work Team” for all aspects of management and operations including budgeting, maintenance, repair and upkeep. • Author and facilitator/administrator of the five week and one day Pilot Brewery training programs.
