The Emblem of Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman

Blue, yellow and red, being the national colours reflect the Malaysian identity of the institution.

The letter ‘A’ in auspicious red gives its prominence, suggesting distinction and excellence in the education provided by UTAR. Red also signals success, prosperity and protection from negative forces.

The swing of the bold stroke signifies a ‘yes’, a mark of enthusiastic approval and the right choice.

The cascade of six lines symbolizes the comprehensive courses and wholesome components of education in UTAR. These components are known as the Pillars of Education.

The seventh line, the tail of the backbone stroke, represents an integrated, holistic and balanced approach in the pursuit of learning, teaching and research. Together, the holistic and the academic strength will propel UTAR into a future filled with great promise and unlimited opportunities.

Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) was officially launched on 13 August 2002 as a not-for-profit private university providing affordable quality education. It is established under the UTAR Education Foundation and registered under the Malaysian Private Higher Educational Institutions Act 1996.

Guided by its vision to be a global university of educational excellence, UTAR is highly reputed as one of the fastest growing private higher education institutions in the country with phenomenal growth in all aspects of its development since its inception. With the first intake of only 411 students in its campus in 2002, the University’s enrolment has now reached more than 22,000 students with campuses located in Kampar, Perak and , .

UTAR has graduated over 69,000 students since its inaugural convocation in 2005 and has made impressive strides in establishing a strong reputation as a comprehensive University with dedication to achieving excellence in teaching and research. I am pleased to welcome our new students to UTAR. As a University by the people, for the people, UTAR has always been a University with a solid foundation, a strong sense of community spirit and a reputation for academic and research excellence. With a scenic campus in Kampar and a purpose-built campus in Sungai Long, UTAR has a growing regional presence and an expanding international profile with over 460 international partners, more than 100 external examiners and more than 120 industry advisors for our academic programmes.

The COVID-19 pandemic has transformed university learning to include online teaching and learning, and I believe this itself is also educational because additional skills are required to follow online learning and assessments. More concerted efforts have to be taken for time management while learning from home. Nevertheless, you will get to experience university life over the next few years and to make new friends. I hope that the experiences gained will add to your growing perspective of life, enhance your personality, and help you gain valuable life lessons.

UTAR has been making impressive strides in establishing a strong reputation as a University providing affordable quality education. The University has consistently attained awards for its efforts towards research, educational excellence and community projects. UTAR retained its #501-600 ranking for the fourth time since 2018 in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2021. In addition, UTAR maintained its Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings 2021 with a ranking of #201–300 overall for the second year, and is also ranked 74th (Top 100) out of the 966 institutions listed in the SDG 4: Quality Education table. UTAR emphasises the “nurturing and holistic development of the individual towards nation building”. In line with this, UTAR encourages students to participate in extra curricular activities with the objectives of:

• Promoting awareness and appreciation of a broad range of interest and activities • Developing leadership skills • Developing team work • Developing discipline and responsibility • Providing a platform for students with common interests to network and to enhance their ability and talents

Students are encouraged to extend their learning opportunities beyond the lecture room and to take advantages of extra-curricular and sports activities available to improve their social, communication and leadership skills. Students are encouraged to attend regular talks, seminars and workshops conducted by successful industry professionals, entrepreneurs and academic from local and foreign institutions of higher learning to get a first-hand account of their experiences and knowledge.

SPORTS & RECREATION UNIT (SRU)

SRU strives to organise sports and recreational activities for the students. It also provides assistance to students on the booking of sports facilities and consultation on sports activities. Students get to play and involve themselves in organising annual friendly games / competitions which include the Sports Festival, Sports Carnival, Clash of UTARians and Trekathon. The University also receives external invitations from other colleges, universities and the Sports Division of the Ministry of Education (which include MASISWA & SUKIPT Games). We are always scouting for talented students who are state or national players to represent UTAR. Our most active sports include Badminton, Basketball, Volleyball, Netball, Table Tennis, Futsal, Soccer, Swimming, Bowling, Tug- of-War, Taekwondo/Karate, Wushu, Hapkido, Dodgeball, Frisbee and Track & Field events.

It is important to fill-up the talent survey form and submit it to the Department of Student Affairs (DSA) so that your talents can be discovered by the University. Sport facilities are also available for use by UTAR students and staff at reasonable rates or free of charge. Various recreation equipment and games such as Boggle, Carom, Chinese Chess, International Chess, Scrabble, Monopoly and Table-Tennis can be borrowed for free from the Gym.

Only vehicles with valid UTAR vehicle sticker or other relevant permit/pass are allowed to enter and/or park inside the Campus.

UTAR vehicle stickers are to be used by the designated vehicles only and cannot be assigned to other vehicles ["Not Transferable"] .

Selling of the stickers and/or buying the stickers from other sources such as Facebook or third parties are illegal and it is a serious offence. UTAR is now taking serious action against those found guilty of this offence.

Students who are involved in selling or buying the stickers or allowed the stickers to be used by other vehicles will be charged, among others, under Section 6(2) of Student Code of Conduct ["the Code"] which states that: -

"A student shall not violate any provision of any written law, whether within or outside the campus."

Student who are involved in amending or falsifying the stickers will be charged under Section 25.5 of Student Code of Conduct which states that :-

"Making, possessing, or using any falsified, torn or defaced University document or record; altering any University document or record, University vehicle sticker etc. is an offence."

Should the student found guilty, the student may be subjected to suspension of study.

FAKE VEHICLE STICKERS AND FAKE MEDICAL CHITS (M.C.)

The University takes serious view on the issue of fake vehicle stickers and fake medical chits. With IMMEDIATE EFFECT, students who are found guilty: (a) of involving in the selling of fake vehicle stickers / fake medical chits will be TERMINATED from their studies (b) of involving in the buying of fake stickers / fake medical chits will be SUSPENDED from their studies (the period of suspension will be determined at the relevant Disciplinary Committee)

2. How to replace my Permanent Student ID Card? Replacement due to expiry/damage/lost/etc. is subject to the charges scheme imposed by the University. Payment (with supporting document eg. police report, if applicable) can only be made at the counter of DFN (Division of Finance).

3. What should I do if I lost my belongings? Please proceed to the Department of Safety and Security (DSS) to report your lost item. If it is found, you will be contacted accordingly.

4. I would like to go to the gym for workout. What should I do? The gym is usually open i.e. from 10am to 8pm on Monday to Thursday, 10am to 6pm on Friday and 10am to 2pm on Saturday for Sungai Long Campus; from 10.40am to 7.15pm on Monday to Friday and 8am to 5pm on Saturday for Kampar Campus, with one day is dedicated as Ladies Day at both campuses, etc.

Please submit the gym coupon with your ID to the gym counter to register and to gain locker access. Each coupon can be purchased for RM2.00 per session (2 hours) from the Division of Finance. Proper workout attire is required (Jeans, open-toed shoes, dress shoes, boots, slippers, sandals or bear feet are not allowed).

The gym operation in Kampar Campus and Sungai Long Campus is subject to the latest SOP by the authorities. So, before you head to the gym, please contact the SRU Officer at Department of Student Affairs or email to [email protected] .

5. How do I obtain counseling services? Please approach DSA from 8.30am to 5.30pm to make an appointment with your respective counsellor in advance through online application. The application can be reached through an online appointment application form. Counseling services are free of charge and available to all students who seek for better self-understanding and life adjustment. You can be doing fine in university and still obtain counseling services for greater personal growth and understanding. 6. How do I join as a member of a club or society? Most Clubs and Societies Recruitment Drives are conducted during the first month of every new trimester, registration is at RM10.00 per club/society. Renewal of membership is required for those who are advance their programme in the University, i.e. from Foundation Studies to Bachelor’s Degree.

Most club/societies accept new members during the Recruitment Drive every trimester (usually Week 2). This would be the best time to check out all the active societies on campus. There is no limit on how many clubs/societies you join as long as you can manage.

IMPORTANT: Your membership should appear in the UTAR Student Portal after registration. Please check your status and report to DSA immediately shall there be unnecessary delays,.

7. How do I join activities/events on campus? Most activities/events are hosted either by the University (Academic Faculty, Department/ Centre) or a student body (Club/society, Student Representative Council, Final Year Project). Upcoming events are usually publicized on notice boards, mail master, student portal announcement and the UTAR website. Please refer to the person-in-charge or organizer to identify where to register or obtain more information on an event if interested.

8. Can I receive parcels/mails on campus? You may address deliveries (personal/online shopping) under your own name to the E- Commerce Delivery Centre located at North Lobby, KA Block (SL Campus) and KMG1, Student Pavilion II (KPR Campus).

Please register an account at https://dcc.utar.edu.my/e-commerce-delivery-centre/. Each parcel received will be subject to a service charge of RM0.50, and you will receive an email notification if you have any deliveries arriving at the centre.

9. How do I get information/provide feedback/report problems? Each campus has an elected Student Representative Council (SRC) that functions to serve the community. You may ask questions/provide feedback via the SRC (refer to the respective portfolios on their contacts). For general enquiries/concerns, you may approach DSA (we will redirect to the appropriate office/department) or your respective Faculty General Office (FGO) for academic matters (i.e. timetables, add/drop/transfer, leave of absence).

Unauthorized Soliciting • Be wary of any stranger trying to offer you any product/services/advice of any kind. • Such individuals are likely to be operating illegally without any authorization from any legal body. You have the right to demand for their credentials and report their presence to the security guards (on campus) or to the Student Representative Council (SRC). • It is strongly recommended to ignore such individuals and walk away. You are personally responsible for any dealings with them at your own risk.

Personal Valuables • Always keep your valuables attended to (i.e. Phone/Wallet) as they are your personal responsibility. • The University shall not be responsible for any loss or damage to personal belongings inside or outside the campus.

Personal Safety • Always be wary of your surroundings when walking/travelling outside campus. • Be especially careful of dark alleys or areas and avoid walking alone especially at night. • If you observe any suspicious individual in the vicinity, please report them to our security guards or the Student Representative Council (SRC).

Accommodation • Accommodation agreements are bound solely between the tenant and landlord. The University may provide advice, but shall not be legally involved in any tenancy arrangement for students. • Do not rent a room/unit without obtaining a signed and stamped Tenancy Agreement with receipts for any form of payment to the agent/landlord. • Always inspect your room/unit personally before accepting or paying any deposit. • Be wary of units with additional/extra partitions/rooms. Such partitions are usually installed illegally to increase the number of tenants, but can be a serious fire hazard and may be unsuitable/congested for living in. You may report any unauthorized partitioning to the local city council.

Soft skills are essential skills in the workplace. Students with excellent soft skills can fit into most environments because they are adaptable, committed and persevering, and display the right attitude. Such qualities cut across all disciplines. In order to perform well and advance in one's career, one needs to have high levels of soft skills in dealing with people. In short, technical skills need to be complemented with soft skills.

Soft skills take years to develop. Students are therefore encouraged to start developing their soft skills while pursuing their academic study. DSSC engages experienced trainers and also collaborates with organisation in public and private sectors to conduct the following key areas of soft skills and life skills programmes for students: I. UTAR Community and Voluntary Engagement Programme (UTAR CARE Programme) was introduced in January 2021 onwards as an effort to cultivate and recognise students’ contribution and efforts in community and voluntary projects.

The UTAR CARE transcript will record students’ contribution in community / volunteering projects within their study period in UTAR (from Foundation Studies to Postgraduate Studies), which includes University Social Responsibility (USR) projects, Knowledge Transfer Program (KTP), Student-initiated Community Project and Voluntary Services to the university.

The new system is expected to increase the participation of students in Community Outreach Project/ Voluntary Work. With the 5 tiers in the new grading system, the students will have targets and motivation to earn service hours to reach the highest tier (Tier 5) before their completion of study.

Objectives: New System • UTAR CARE Programme represents a new system that recognize students’ achievement toward community engagement. Developing interpersonal skills • Undergraduates who have a high level of involvement in community service would show positive changes in behavior, values, aspirations and career preparation. From the social aspect, they also learn empathy, positive attitude and higher level of internalized moral standards. Volunteering also gives students the opportunity to practice crucial skills to better prepare them for the future workplace, such as teamwork, communication, problem solving, project planning, task manage- ment and organization skills. Real World Learning • Students are given opportunities to experience out-of-the-classroom learning, where they are exposed to the current issues faced by the communities in the real world. Expanding Network • Students are also given a platform to expand their network with various parties such as the local communities, local authorities, NGOs, government agencies and even industry players. They will be penalised for any loss or damage to the book borrowed under their account and will be required to pay the cost of replacement or repair together with any fines incurred before reporting the loss or damage, plus a processing fee.

Patrons are not allowed to borrow/renew the library books if they have any outstanding book or fine in their account.

Patrons can access to their own Library Account during the 2nd week of the new trimester. Library Account is accessible at anywhere and anytime via https://library.utar.edu.my/LIBAccount.php. It provides a convenient way to manage your library account which include checking due date of borrowed book, performing online renewal before the book is due and keep tracking the status of requested book.

Renewal of Books Library books can be renewed online twice via your Library Account. However, online renewal is denied under these circumstances: • The book is overdue. • The book is being requested by another patron. • You have exceeded the maximum number (2 times) of online renewal for the book. • You have unpaid fines / unreturned overdue book.

Overdue Notices Library system will automatically send you a reminder email 3 days before a book is due. After the book is overdue, unlimited overdue emails are sent to your email daily until the book is returned. Failure to read emails will not be regarded as a valid excuse for non-receipt of overdue notices. Patrons are however advised to refer to the due date stamped in the book / due date stated in your Library Account and not rely on email reminders/overdue notices as they are merely courtesy reminders.

Patrons will not be allowed for conferment of degree and convocation and their degree certificate will be withheld if they have debts with the Library, until such debts are cleared. Patrons who fail to pay their fines will have their borrowing privileges suspended.

Penalty for Late Return of Books a) Books must be returned by the date or time specified on the date due slip / library account. Fines for overdue loans are calculated from the due date to the day the items are returned. Weekends and public holidays are included in this calculation. For example, if a book is due before a Public Holiday and is returned after the Public Holiday, the fines will be counted even though the library is closed. The decision of the Library to impose a fine and quantum thereof shall be final and not subject to any appeal, save where gross error can be shown.

Payment of UTAR Student Bill can be made in any of the following ways:

1. Payment via JomPAY Step 1: Logon to your Internet/Mobile Banking account, select JomPAY mode of payment. Step 2: Enter the JomPAY Biller Code and its Reference Number as indicated in the student bill, then confirm payment. Step 3: Print the 'JomPAY Reference Number' shown on the Confirmation Page as proof/ reference for your successful transaction. No service fee will be charged by the bank for this mode of transaction.

2. Payment through Public Bank's Internet Banking Service Log on to www.pbebank.com.my, a service provided by Public Bank Bhd to their savings and current account holders. You would need to have your User ID and Password to login to the PBeBank.com service. Please follow the steps below: Step 1: Log on to www.pbebank.com.my Step 2: Click 'Login'. Enter your 'Internet Banking User ID' and 'Password'. Step 3: Click 'Payment' > 'Bill Payment' > “Other Bill’. Step 4: Select 'UTAR-Bill Payment' from 'Corporation Code'. and click ‘Next’. Step 5: Click the drop-down menu of 'From Account' and select payer's account. Step 6: Enter 'Bank Reference 1' and 'Bank Reference 2' as shown in your Student Bill and click 'Accept’. Step 7: Click 'Request PAC Now'. Enter the 'PAC number' which you would receive via SMS (on your mobile phone). Click 'Confirm' to process the payment. Step 8: Print the '6-Digit Reference Number' shown on the Confirmation Page as proof/reference for your successful transaction.

This service is accessible daily from 6.00am to 12.00 midnight. A service fee will be charged by the Bank for each successful transaction. You are advised to print the 6-digit reference number shown on the confirmation page for your record and also as receipt reference.

3. Payment at Public Bank Branches Present the Student Bill and complete the pay-in slip with account number 3999207316 when making payment to the teller. The bill will be retained by the bank.

Payment can be made via cash / cheque / bank draft / money order / postal order. All payments should be made payable to 'Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman'. A service fee will be charged by the Bank for each transaction.

4. Payment at the Division of Finance, UTAR Present your Student Bill when making payment. Payment can be made in the form of cheque / bank draft / money order / postal order. All payment should be made payable to 'Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman'.

Public Bank credit card and debit card are accepted for payment of Student Bill. Payment in cash will not be accepted.

5. Payment via Flywire For international students to make payments from home countries, Flywire takes 3 working days from the delivered date to process the payment.

Step 1: Logon to utartuition.flywire.com, a service provided by Flywire. Step 2: Select “Student Bill Payment – New Student” or “Student Bill Payment – Existing Student” and click “START YOUR PAYMENT” button. Step 3: Key-in the name of your home country in the “Country or Region” field and click to select the correct name from the dropdown list. Then, key-in the “NET AMOUNT PAYABLE” shown on your Student Bill in the “Amount” field and click “NEXT”.
